Not sure if it works, but I did one free course on-line and then also got myself a similar course for $10, now I'm like 15% in. I'm going for web dev though. The first course was "The Essential Web Developer Course" on Upskill Courses, actually it was fairly fun, took me like 10 days of doing it in my free time to finish. The second one is "The Web Developer Bootcamp" on Udemy. My plan is to learn the essentials of HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript properly through courses, and then start writing my own stuff using Google as help to expand skills.
Anyways, the programmers I talked to say the same thing: just code everyday, figure out what kinda result do you want to get, and then google the ways to reach it, and after a year you can be a junior dev

I'd recommend having a teacher tho, or at the very least, search for friends or something that are also interested in it. just to share ideas with.
the very basic shit is easy, it's almost like learning maths. but for some stuff you most likely will need some guidance, but I can tell you online communities for this sort of subject are usually extremely friendly and willing to help (programming languages, frameworks, open software as you mentioned you wanna learn linux etc etc).
If that's what you want, just go for it, lad.

Coming from a person that learned and worked with programming languages (college education and proper medium range software company experience work) and doesn't particularly enjoy it, unfortunately.

Linux user here! Linux is so simple to use these days you'd do it without the wiki. Use whatever developing environment your comfortable with. There are free online courses for just about any language, start there then look for books at your local library (beware than many languages develop fast so migtht be outdated, for regular C you can use a 25yo+ book). See if there are any IRL classes you can take.

Beginner level:

Depends on what kind of job you are applying for. It's basically a filter question. You want to answer it in terms of what they're ACTUALLY looking for.
