I haven't really done much in history but would anthropology be a good substitute? I do classical studies. Also I'm from New Zealand so it's a tougher reach for connections but getting into political roles isn't of such high demand.

Sup /adv/. Any psycho-fags around here? I have an issue understanding a specific behaviour in people:
We all know we lie to cover things up. E.g.: Mum asks if you went to bed early yesterday. You didn't and you want to cover it up so you don't get into trouble. In order to cover it up one might follow this up with further lies, creating a whole fragile construct of lies.
Now this is the most common and obvious reason to lie. Covering things up to avoid trouble.
But what about this:
You didn't go to bed early yesterday, even though mum told you to do so. The next day, she doesn't ask whether or not you did. No reason to lie, right?
Now what does it mean when someone, in this situation, approaches their mum themselves and tells her that they went to bed only a bit later, even though they barely slept that night.
Not only this, but this person might even push this lie again over the course of weeks, telling their mum that they only went to bed a bit later. When finally being asked by mum whether that's the whole truth, they confirm - again, lying.
There obviously isn't a reason to lie here, so why do it? Mum hasn't asked herself, so by just staying quiet that person would have avoided trouble anyways.
What's the reason behind this, exept for that person being an asshole? Do people do this to fool themselves about being honest? Do they enjoy lying? Do they enjoy messing with people? What to make off this?

Well, my driving record was going to be clean in December (I got a ticket about three years ago) and I was going to look into a new line of work. Since I don't really have an education (and no real means of getting one, because America) I was looking at becoming a truck driver, tow truck driver or possibly even delivering packages for ups.
But about an hour ago, I tapped this lady's bumper. Of course she works at an insurance agency, too so she's going the whole nine yards.
So, that's that. I have to work my shit job and barely scrape by for another 3 years at least. I'm honestly just considering an heroing at this point.

Why did you ever assume truck driving was the only means of getting a decent job without education? There are so many opportunities out there if you're wanting to make good money and don't mind being away (which you apparently don't mind, considering you wanted to be a trucker). Look into oil field work. Any kind of manual labor in Alaska. It's spring, which means a fuckton of jobs are opening up in places people don't usually want to go. Again, Alaska. So much construction and shit up there. You could put in 5-6 months of work and earn a fuckton.
