The ground connection doesn't have anything to do with storms.
Its used to ground the chases and the parts of the device that should not be under voltage. It dose nothing 99% of the time. And since most laptops and chargers are are cased in a plastic sarcophagus anyway you'd be fine for quite a while.

Some bg: I've been with my girlfriend for about 3.5 years and lived with her for about 2 of those years. We're usually pretty good excluding the usual stupid shit that women like to argue about, which I admit is usually partly my fault.

She feels that since I'm earning a lot more money than her, I should be keen to shout her ticket. I feel like it's childish for her to get mad at me for not doing so. Even though I am currently earning more money than her, she has a large amount of money in her saving account (at least double what I have), and is far from being unable to buy her own ticket. Am I being a dick, or is she being a bitch? Who wins?

The thing is that I never said that I wouldn't. She just flew off the handle because I hesitated, and said that it would have to be a movie that I'd want to see.
