So what does /a/ actually think of FLCL?
I've seen a bunch of memes and shitposting, but I can't get a real
idea of what people think of it.
When did you first watch FLCL?
I think i was nine when I saw it first.
I saw it first at 15, didn't really understand it, watched it again and loved it.
Since then I've seen it about 6 or 7 times start to finish, it's my favorite by virtue of rewatching, how many shows can you go back and enjoy 8 times over
So what do you think of the sub vs dub?
I've watched it in both pretty equally, I know why people find the dub annoying, but for what ever reason that Kari Wahlgren keeps bringing me back
It was great. Although now that I think about it, since it's been so long since I've watched it the only thing I can really remember about it are the character designs and the OST, so a rewatch is probably in order soon.
/a/ is full of people who like it, and people who think it's pretentious. It's been a while since I've seen a non-troll FLCL thread. But when IG announced a possible remake, /a/ generally seemed opposed to the idea on the grounds that it was good as-is.
I think it's a classic.
He didn't say it was. He's speaking for all the driveling underage morons who call anything they can't understand or don't like a meaningless buzzword to discredit it. Reading comprehension is hard, huh?
It was a bit awkward to watch with my sister
but i will admit, this part is still pretty sexy
The music, animation and over all vibe of the show is so nostalgic for me and I didn't even watch it on Adult Swim. It's the combination of early 2000s animation, the kick-ass music and the that dew-y aesthetic. Definitely a case of style over substance, but as with any fan base, people always read into things to find meaning, even if it wasn't intentionally put in. In a way, I prefer series that are open to interpretation like this, it's what makes art, art. Obviously, the fact that FLCL relies so heavily on its style to keep you interested is what makes it so controversial. Anyway, I loved it.
FLCL makes me feel wistful and a little melancholic, but at the same time fills me with hope for the future and keep trudging for the good times.
That's a good way to put it.
With FLCL a lot of things are left up to the viewer's own interpretations, so considering that, I've noticed FLCL seems to appeal a certain personality type, though I can't put my finger on what type that would be.
Post favourite Pillows songs?
Last Dinosaur is the song I come back to the most.
Hearing it again makes me want to go for a night bike ride or something, it just makes you feel alive man.
very interested to hear the anime you like.
Flcl is adolescense for me. I watched it when I was 11 and it blew my mind. Back when there was an anime channel on satellite it would always be on late at night. I'd stay up late and sneak out to the living room to watch it either muted or with the sound turned so low I had to sit 2 feet in front of the TV to hear it.
Watched it so many times. The style, characters, and ost are godlike. I can't understand anyone who doesn't like it.
Why didn't Amon have any N.O. powers?
Amarao was able to get a little thing through,
and it seems that NO is based on sexual clarity.
I think Amon was a bit more in touch with sex than Amarao
Fucking goosebumps as soon as the video started and once more when the chorus kicks on.
Fucking incredible. I really do think this show is a masterpiece.
>idea of what people think of it.
I liked it; It was quite fun. Definitely not a masterpiece, nor masterfully done, but the places it went to, and the way that it went to them were all very interesting and, at times, poignant. Also The Pillows.
>When did you first watch FLCL?
>I think i was nine when I saw it first.
yeah, last week was pretty nice, wasn't it?
>all the driveling underage morons who call anything they can't understand "deep' and "masterful," because they're easily impressionable children.
There, i patched it up for you.
> Reading comprehension is hard, huh?
I'll say, given how you completely misread his argument.
can someone who thinks FLCL is "pretentious" "nonsense" "open for interpretation" point out exactly where they think this shows? Because it's a pretty closed-off, succintly written show.
The best anime ever made by a relatively wide margin.
Watching it feels like being a kid again, just at that point when the world seems both impossibly massive and horribly pathetic at the same time. Nothing I've ever experienced has made me feel like I was in a specific place in my life so strongly.
God damn, I love it too much. Those brief glimpses that I have of how nice the world can be, this show presents its own world through the same lens. Warm sunlight, calm water, the cool smell that comes with dusk in summer time.
It had some really nice metaphor and thematic work but by the time I saw it a couple months ago it had been overhyped for me for a very long time.
WHAT WAS THE DEAL WITH THE EYEBROWS. THEY WERE CLEARLY SUBTEXTUALLY IMPORTANT BUT WERE NEVER EXPLAINED.
Are you retarded? I hate FLCL, but even I know what was all the deal with the lolsymbolism and the eyebrows were surely the symbols of your typical coming of age and being a man, instead of a child.
How do eyebrows tie into that? Wouldn't a mustache have been a better choice for something manly? Furthermore, it seemed like the eyebrows were something to ward against/protect him from/symbolically swear him off associating with Haruko. Who, while unhealthy for him, was certainly pressuring him to mature and be the big man, so to speak.
FLCL was the first anime I ever watched that had any actual "substance" to it that went beyond dudes fighting other dudes.
Saw it first when I was 13 or 14 I think. I mainly enjoyed the wackiness and humor, but it also made me feel things.
>Runner's High hasn't been posted yet
Goddamn the Pillows are fantastic.
You have impeccable taste my friend
It's my favorite anime.
And as much as I felt uneasy of Produciton IG hinting a reboot or sequel/prequel by buying the right, I kind of want to see it. I want to see how they will handle it and if they will use different Pillows songs for their new soundtrack
FLCL was an awesome show. But if you get distracted by the absolute absurdity of the show itself, you'll find a deep and meaningful story and deep character creation. Very fun over all. Watch it.
>new chances for scales, Nendos, Figmas
watching it right now, and I think the symbolism on this show is way too much. Can't keep up with both the subs and visual nuances at once for fuck's sake.
Overall is really really well directed though.
It's flawless in every possible way and all I can do is hope and pray they don't absolutely ruin the potential remake.
Also Haruko is my waifu and I love her very much and would drop everything to be with her if someone would channel me into the anime dimension
