Let's talk about this an about how it will lose the Oscar to fucking Inside Out.
We should. Spirited Away is the best selling Ghibli movie for a reason, and they're closed because they are not really going that well in the box office.
The Oscar is a great propaganda.
It was average/ok.
It starts really strong but like most Pixar movies it loses itself in the middle and chooses the most boring and cliché routes to reveal itself.
who the fuck cares about that Hollywood circlejerk with the voters having been exposed as a bunch of ignorant normie white trash soccer moms and plumber dick sucking dads? They vote for what they have seen $hilled on TV the most or what their inbred shitbrain little bastard children like to watch, e.g. 100% CGI fagshit-fests like Frozen which they also get brainwashed to see by TV ads.
>they're closed because they are not really going that well in the box office.
I don't know how huge their budgets are, but in raw revenue they're doing better than basically everyone else who isn't Mamoru Hosoda.
When Marnie Was There made 28% of what Arrietty made.
And Arrietty wasn't that sucessful.
What? You don't think Nisekoi is a good influence?
>And Arrietty wasn't that sucessful.
Arrietty was successful as fuck by any reasonable standards. If that's not enough for Ghibli, then they need to either lower their profit margin expectations or budget better.
When Marnie Was There
>2.64 billion yen
>23.39832 million U.S. dollars
>first Mamoru Hosoda movie
Difference? Omoide no Marnie probably was way more expensive to make.
Both Kaze Tachinu and Omoide no Marnie are at least a ''good'', anon.
Kaguyahime is the only one who gives us something new but Arrietty was almost perfectly executed.
That one from Miyazaki's son is trash, though.
I'm seeing higher numbers for Marnie (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-09-14/japanese-box-office-september-6-7/.78778 , ANN could reasonably have fucked something up, though), and a $10 million budget. I can't find budget for Summer Wars,, but even if you add in some decent advertising costs or something that aren't included in that, Marnie's profit margin is still over 100%.
Also, not that it matters, but that wasn't Hosoda's first movie. Even discounting the Toei stuff, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time came first.
Arrietty's completely mediocre, and 5 movies in six years (really five, since they suspended operation), plus one mediocre TV show, isn't exactly a small number to judge by.
Arriety was meh/10. I haven't seen earth sea which is supposed to be utter shit, so for me Arriety is the worst Ghibli I've seen so far.
Marnie was actually decent. Sad to see it perform so badly. Then again Kaguya - an instant classic and Ghibli's last masterpiece bombed too, while disgusting Hollywood kike shit like "lol they are so retarded xD they are just like us!" Minions makes $1.2 billion.
I wish mankind would just nuke itself into oblivion.
Marnie was really fucking good, but Inside Out was pixar is top form. Both of them are deserving if you ask me
>Almost everyone boycotted it after miyazaki said otaku ruin anime
But Anomalisa deserves best Animated Feature
Eh really? d-doushio?
Marnie was pretty meh anyway, specially when compared to miyazaki and takahata movies. The animation was nice but nothing special, althoug sometimes it looked wierd, the story with the whole thing about the encounters made no sense even when you assume "it's magic ain't gonna explain shit", the music was forgetable and MC was a bitch (fucking cunt, pig-chan was cute and friendly).
The art and backgrounds were gorgeous though and the side characters (mom, aunt, uncle, glasses loli) were great.
It's average when compared to other ghibli movies. But it's still better than inside out, I agree. But it's not like the oscars matter when it comes to quality anyway, it's just glorified jewish advertising.
