The last good arc was the Pain arc

Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

Sakura falls in love with Sasuke. Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with the edgelord's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, she immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on her as well. But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the boy, he only unsheathes his katana (folded x 100000000).

After some investigation, she finds out that the boya she called is not the same edgelord he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. he is the boy's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of his crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their DARKNESS, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons (like katanas) they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NARUTO of DARKNESS.

Did they have any meaningful slow progression about how they started to like each other and date? Or they just had a single shoehorned incident instantly make them madly in love each other?

I stopped watching naruto back when they were still kids, and for what I remember, Hinata was a creepy stalker with a one sided obsession with Naruto while Naruto was completely oblivious to her existence and had an once sided obsession with Sakura.

It was great up until the end of the Chunin Exams. Lee's arc is easily the best part of Naruto imo.

Got progressively worse after the time-skip ending in one of the worst arcs in Shonen Jump history. I was enjoying Bleach more than Naruto by the end of the series.

The studio didn't ruin Naruto. Kishimoto is a hack that ran out of ideas midway through his series.

She had more moments further on. In the Pain arc she confessed her feelings while coming to his rescue when he was pinned down and fought the villain of the arc for a bit. She almost died but it gives Naruto a major anger boost, kind of like when Sasuke almost died fighting Haku and he was letting the nine tails take control, only this time the fox was almost practically completely out so it seemed like a bigger button was pushed. There was also moment or two in the 4th Ninja War, like right after HQ (which had some characters like Ino and Shikamaru's dads) was blown up and Neji died protecting him and Hinata, Naruto was starting to fall into despair when Hinata gave him a light slap to snap him out and gave him a speech to regain his spirit, they held hands which gave Hinata a slight power up and doing that led to Naruto figuring out he can share his nine tails chakra to other people. I only know this from playing Utlimate Ninja Storm 4 and don't remember if this happened in the manga, but when Naruto was dying and a bunch of past voices were echoing inside his head, the last voice he thought about was Hinata's (he got better after meeting the spirit of the sage of the six paths).

And then there was them giving him and Hinata a movie (which is considered canon) to set them up together as a couple.

I said it once and I'll say it again, the problem with Naruto and Hinata as a couple is the lack of interaction between them. But that was also in part caused by the Uchiha dick riding the manga had during part II, which kept most of the cast (since they were only really connected to Naruto) irrelevant.
