>One Piece and Detective Conan apparently hard to sell and promote in the west
>Very popular in Germany despite being 95% unlocalized
Is Germany the only sane western country, /a/?
To be fair One Piece has been dealt shit hands from the get go
>Gone for years
>Funi picks up but starts where 4kids ends off confusing people, and for some reason despite the fact Funi picked it up around Thriller Bark ending in Japan they dubbed ALL filler from between Skypeia to Thriller Bark
>Gets put on a the bastardized Toonami that starts at fucking Midnight where normal people are already asleep
>Because of the aforementioned Filler it gets pushed down to fucking TWO IN THE MORNING due to bad ratings
It's amazing how little a chance OP was given in the west.
it´s because US is in the west of Europe
No, Germany is the most insane one. 80% of population is descendant from rapebabies and whole country hates itself. I guess Conan is followed there because Germans get immensely triggered by anything that has violence, plot, heroics, wholesome families, cute girls or sex. I hope your whole country burns to the ground thanks to migrant crisis and there is zero ethnic german left after 20 years. Fucking pathetic cuckold disgraces.
>typical wanpiss apologism
Get over yourself. Americans judge manga based on looks and One Piece has very unappealing art.
If you like cute girls and teen drama, something that looks like Popeye the Sailor Man isn't going to have it. Bleach and Naruto ruled supreme for very shallow reasons.
Oh, and One Piece sucks now, so there's now a legitimate reason to bash it.
You do realize even if FUNi dumb got released from ep 1 here and 4kids dub never existed, I still seriously doubt OP would be popular in the US. Pirates are just not well liked here. Ninjas and stuff are super popular here. Pirates are not. All the pirate stereotypes don't help either.
>hard to sell in the west
That's for conan not opm.

>flashforward to the future

Nobody is as big of a cuck as America. It's some Planet of the Apes shit IRL.
>Manga with an anime get a boost in sales
>Confusing One Piece with One Punch Man
OPMfags are truly the most cancerous shitters in this board, probably worse than SnKfags and Wanpissfags that are deluded and think wanpiss has been nothing but garbage since 2011.
Most of the rest of the world has better things to do than read children's comic books. Hell, even if you are into comic books, Europe's got much better stuff than America and Japan combined
>OP is inspired by Wickie (according to Oda)
>Wickie is Japanese-German anime
>Wicke being childhood series for people born in the 60ties and later for people born during rebroadcasts in Germany
No wonder Germans like it
>flooding country will mudslimes
Conan was the shit in Germany. Everyone I know watched it. Germans have a strange obsession with murder mysterys/crime fiction. There is a reason why 'Tatort' (a german crime/detectiv show) is such a huge cultural event that still produces amazing viewing figures even in an age where most people use the internet to watch their media.
I find it amazing that Conan was shown in the afternoon back then. They wouldn't be able to pull that of anymore,Conan was pretty graphic, heck in the first episode someone gets decapitated on a rollercoaster.Nowadays parents would flip out if something like that was shown to kids at like 2 PM.
Actually, people still request it to air today.
MAXX is frequently being asked by fans to air new episodes.
Thing with Conan was that it had the balls to be uncensored despite the main audience having been elementary schoolers. Like the mummy case where one of the victims was dismembered and her bodyparts carried around under the culprits shirt.
Kidz Zone even brought out fanservice poster like Ran and Sonoko in skimpy angel and devil clothing, like complete stockings and undergarments.
It depends on how TV stations handle anime.
In america, daytime TV for Anime is kinda difficult. For some reason even Naruto has to be edited, even tough it aired at 9pm I think? Detective Conan is unfit in an Adult Swim timeslot.
Tough for some reason Cartoon Network dropped Anime pretty fast alltogether. Then there are butchered adaption of One Piece does not help.
In Germany, it's been very prude like the US. But since private television, we have a tv channel that has aired anime since the 90's. Mostly it was still very old, but the viewerbase preffered over the american cartoons that aired there. Also the channel was kinda of wild and also aired more brutal movies during normal hours. The channel brought up a generation that views Anime as much more sophisticated and passionate than american cartoons. Anime like Rose of Versailles, Cat's Eye and Ranma 1/2 are unproblematic during child programme hours. However the channel at some point lost it's edge and thought copying 4kids was the better idea, so viewership dwindled and anime no longer had an attractive platform.
France had a 10 year run of running edgy and violent cartoons during the 80's and 90's and anime like Saint Seiya and Fist of the North Star became popular. However at some point, anime was looked down upon and teen oriented (with a bit more violence) had no longer a place in kids programming. Detective Conan came under critisism during child hours and was dropped.
Italy and Spain still actually have a popular childrens block during daytime with Anime like Dragon Ball and Shin Chan. Loads of anime not popular in america, got it's following. Namely Lupin III for Italy.
Actually parents can compain, but German Youth Protection doesn't care and views it as unproblematic.
The morale of Conan is always that crime is negative, and chilldren have no problem viewing it. There is reason why Grave of the Fireflies is rated 6 years old an up.
There were multiple channels in germany.
RTL II had Ranma, Cat's Eye, Kickers, Tsubasa, Heidi along with the likes of Digimon, Pokemon and Naruto later on.
VIVA and MTV had Record of Lodoss War, Hellsing, GitS: SAC, Gantz, Escaflowne, X and the likes.
VOX had fucking hentai like Midnight Panther, Tokio Private Police or Rei Lan and occasionally marathoned anime series. Like all of Hellsing or DNA2 in one night.
Yo I agree that it is one of the worst things made in german television but Tatort is still huge. I have friends that watch that shit every time it is on but not only that some bars have public viewings which are always packed full of young people. Tatort became kinda popular with hipsters I guess, everytime Tatort is on, twitter is full of tweets about it.
>German Youth Protection doesn't care and views it as unproblematic.
They are retarded to be fair. Either that or I got lied to cause I've been asking why Bleach never really got aired but One Piece or Naruto.
They told me Bleach is 16+ in germany so they can''t air it during day time. Then went on and said Fairy Tail is okay to air.
Yeah Germany is more about the fact if a show glorifies violence, not so much about violence itself. At the end of the day the bad guys were always caught and children learned that crimes are bad.
The smaller channels aired anime too. But it's RTL II where it got a platform for a whole generation that preferred anime over anything else...the uncensored bloody throwdowns of Dragon Ball probably made children awe nationwide.
Sadly the run of the good RTL2 was very short in comparision to the anime airings in France, Italy and Spain.
Germany trusts kids and their parents a lot more than in the US. Here it is expected that as a parent it is your responsibility to tell your child if it can or can not watch something, if you don't and then you complain about the things your child sees on TV what kind of parent are you? Also children are trusted more to know the difference between reality and fiction thats why drugs blood etc. were not censored here.
>I got lied to
Yep. We never aired Bleach because it's camouflaged shit. Fairy Tail is okay, because even children ccan tell it's shit, but Bleach is like a nasty food stain that you can't get out. Better not air something like that.
>And nowadays, violence is mostly censored
Actually no, MAXX is been pretty good about keeping anime uncut, even at daytime. One Piece and Naruto Shippuden are uncut there.
I think Italy no longer censors their anime either during daytime at smaller channels. Bigger channels always pussy out, even tough show mentally deranged reality TV nonstop.
There's been rumors about Hunter X Hunter and Gintama being added to the current One Piece/Naruto/DBZ Kai block.
I hope it's true.
Mainly for HxH. I cant imagine Gintama dubbed.
Yeah even now the awful and bigoted term 'Killerspiele' is widely spread in german media. Games were always thought to be 'worse' because games are interactive while tv shows are consumed passivley.
I assume the second one, because that's also airing in France.
Another good german dub that sadly is unknown in Germany, City Hunter:
In the US, anime is difficult because the network wants to own and control the production in its entirety. Anime are pretty much finished products.
Same thing happened to Top Gear which the americans stubbornly tried to clone before giving up and just airing the original.
Chloe Lemaire desu yo~
I'm 'ere to say zat I love l'Allemagne, I love notre voisins and I love zat zey too are starting to appreciate l'animé japonaise, ze best animation du monde!
I 'ave visited Allemagne many times, my favorite ville Allemande est
HON HON FROU FROU FERDINAND FOCH FLAMMKUCHEN
Of course, this is true too. However, I always felt Cartoon Network had enough space for anime. At leat I thought the Toonami block on Saturday would of just stayed.
Was Conan not ideal to be shown at 9pm after Naruto instead of Adult Swim?
