let's do some math
seeing as how the first 6 OVAs are and hour long each and the last episode was an hour and a half
That gives us 7and a half hours of runtime or 450 minutes the average anime episode is 24 minutes, but I'll take off 3 minutes since OPs and EDs are about 1.5 minutes long
this means each episode will use around 21 minutes of footage from the OVAs
450/21 = 21.42857 mins, but this can be rounded down to 21 for our purposes and because of possible transitional endings
Now we all know that anime usually only run for either 12 episodes or 24, but as we have seen Unicorn only has room for 21 episodes max
this means Sunrise is either going to have to do some skillful re-cutting or the could try taking on Unicorn's EX episode (explains what the Universal century is for those who haven't watched gundam) which is another 25 minutes long.
Either way they might still need to add on extra animation and maybe they could use this to add certain subplots and character developments dropped from the OVA's I.E.( Loni's character,Micott's drug addiciton,the ending showing the future)

I can stomach the animation and am fine with slower paced series. What gets me is the inconsistencies. This series has a bit of an issue where they love to tell us things and then either fail to show it or show us something contradictory.

Like how nobody in the Worker union had seen kudelia before or could recognize her until one did because he saw her on tv (and even the news crew didn't know her). Or how in the first episode it's mentioned that ahab interference makes communication between planets very difficult yet later show live phone calls between them to not be an issue.

The whole series feels like it could have done with another round of editing.

Sunrise slowed down on TV series tremendously after 2013. We did get Cross Ange in 2014 but other than that it's just been a few Gundam series, a Love Live season and some continuing stuff like Gintama and Aikatsu. It's like they pretty much just dropped off the planet. They've been doing some Gundam, Code Geass and Yamato OVA's and movies and they co-produced that Miss Hokusai movie with I.G but really that's about it. The politics? What politics? The politics in this show are borderline non-existent. I do have to admit Gjallarhorn giving the revolutionaries defective equipment was a nice move, however.
The characters range from inoffensively bland to outright horrible. The only characters I actually care about at this point are Gaelio and Atra. Kudelia is probably the single worst main character I've ever seen in my life, I'm trying to think of a main character I would dislike as much and I'm drawing all blanks. She's completely ineffectual, mopes around harder than GX Hibiki yet everyone fellates her nonexistent skill harder than they fellated Ainz in Overlord, which was horrible enough already.
The fights are actually not that bad when they do happen.
The main problem is that you could cut out half the episodes from the story without any damage to it. The Brewers arc? Utterly pointless. What did we get out of it? Akihito accepting Tekkadan? The Dort arc was hideously written. Kudelia is an idol of the revolution yet nobody knows how she looks? Savarin was the only good part of the Dort arc, since he added some long-overdue grey morality after the Brewers arc went full #000000 and #FFFFFF.
I don't even like G-Reco that much for fuck's sake.

It's the Gundam cycle, all currently airing Gundam is shit and a underrated great show when it isnt airing.

IMO the cast is pretty bland and they get away on a lot of poorly contrived conveniences, the villains are also kinda cartoonishly evil this time around and the fights arent all that impressive. They could have done a better job at world building too given the slow pace.
Other than Kudelia I don't find anything offensively awful about it, I just find Kudelia is just an incredibly unsympathetic, ignorant character who's being used by obvious evil adults and I cannot get over her ignorance and the shows attempt to explain away her faults because she wants to do good.

I will say Gundam always had genocidal psychopaths and retards for villains but at this point Ein should have died instead of Crank and I have no idea why they made that one space pirate guy look like a Captain Planet villain.
