What went wrong?
We miss the funnies, the serious to funny ratio is too heavily tip in the serious side for far too long that the occasional jokes can't save it
It's like driving a booster rocket to nowhere on drugs at this point, too fast too furious.
It's shit for a long time now.
I honestly doubt that all those series received less votes than the new ones.
We know that in fact the editor chief decides the order of the magazine, considering the reader votes is up to him. He's probably trying to promote new series since Bleach, Gintama, Toriko and Nisekoi are all ending.
Literally this. OP always comes first (most of the time) because there are tons of people who buy Jump just to read OP so they put that shit right in the beginning.
The older series don't need any promo, they're tank sales are consistent. It's the newer series that need to be up ahead instead of buried behind.
People have been sick of Nisekoi for years. It's just been consistently low so people are noticing it now
Toriko's never been a high hitter. It jumps around the ToC
Nobody's cared about Bleach in years. Literally years.
Naruto never dropped out of the top 5 even towards the end so that's a load of shit. Hell AssClass is still ranking in the top 3 every week despite it ending next month.
It was crap since the beginning, it just Japan open their eyes
"If you don't have anime, you're fucked" problem.
It's irregular, sometimes is in the top and sometimes is in the bottom
It has been in the bottom for years.

Yeah Gintama is close to ending, so is Toriko, Nisekoi, Bleach and AssClass.
AssClass is ending in 4 more chapters since the story is all wrap up and their nothing much to do.
Bleach been in it final arc since forever but now nearing the end since their only like 4 villains left to fight.
Nisekoi have been writing off girls left & right out the story and now only Chitoge and Onodera is left, they probably will enter the final arc soon.
Toriko have been rushing like there's no tomorrow so either someone at WSJ is rushing him to finish the manga or he's tired of it and want to end it. Either way the ending is in sight and it's heading there at rocket speed.
Gintama been going over 10+ years, it had to end eventually and now wrapping up the plot.
everyone is mad and salty about ships being sunked.
serious arc upon serious arcs
it's up and down since the monkey balls chapter
it's not ending for at least another 3 or 4 years, no matter the rankings.
Last year's hit (with how much WSJ is shilling it) is Black Clover.
2014's hit is Hero Academia.
2013's is World Trigger.
I guess this year's hits doesn't exist yet. The 2 new manga, Demon Blade and Ghost Tits, don't look like hits. One is pure fanservice shenanigans and the other one is from a literal who and has one of the worst, if not the worst, art of all actual WSJ manga.
Meanwhile this is how the other manga tries to survive.
I honestly believe that Demon Blade will be semi-popular, a story about a boy and his imouto in the setting of old school Japan. The premise is interesting enough, as long as they don't fuck up the plot it can be successful.
I also don't think the art is that bad as you making it out to be, not great but not bad either.
>mfw ghost-tits survive but demon blade won't
Please don't let me down Japan, don't let your dick do the voting.
>We miss the funnies, the serious to funny ratio is too heavily tip in the serious side for far too long that the occasional jokes can't save it
The issue is that Gintama probably changed to serious mode all the time because only the serious chapters were doing well in the Jump rankings, but now even those aren't doing well.
I like Demon Blade more than that other new manga, but i think the story and setting could maybe be wrong in WSJ. I could also be wrong and it become a giant hit, who knows.
After AssClass's ending the 800k people who always buy the volumes could search for something new and maybe like Demon Blade.
>implying weekly poll rankings mean shit several years into a series' lifespan
In case you dipshits didn't realize, the weekly polls are just meant to guage a series' popularity early in its lifespan in order for Shueisha to see how much they want to invest into it with anime adaptations, LNs, games, drama CDs, etc.
The real proof in the pudding lies in the sales of graphic novels. If a series has consistently high graphic novel sales, then it's considered a successful series for Shueisha.
While Bleach and Gintama may have low rankings in the polls, their graphic novel sales are still high and are consistently ranked among the Top 30 best-selling manga in Japan.
As for Toriko and Nisekoi, their graphic novel sales have been pretty shitty lately and were not ranked among the top 30, so l'll give you that.
I really enjoy his last one-shot. Probably the best comedy mangaka next to Sorachi (Gintama).
mfw I still care about Bleach
mfw Bleach is my favourite manga
>Don't let your dick do the voting.
You're wishing the impossible, anon. To be honest, I want the ghost tits survives for 2 reasons; demon blade is gonna to be axed because the story isn't for the Jump standards and the magazine needs a relevant ecchi. It's a been awhile since a generic ecchi manga in the Jump has been serialized.
If they wouldn't have given Toei the anime and instead Ufotable who did the OVA it could have all been way different.
Just look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-l-g5_AyIY
Shueisha didn't pair it with Dragon Ball, that was Toei, and it was more than 2 years into Toriko's serialization. The One Piece crossover was because the author is friends with Oda.
The anime was weekly and aired at Saturday mornings.
The OVA was a single episode that had its time to be produced, and hadn't to be censored because it wasn't meant to the TV.
At best you would get slightly better animation from Ufotable at the cost of ending halfway through the human world saga.
They all went stale, except Nisekoi which was shit since the beginning.
By the way, being the last chapter to be published on the magazine isn't bad at all, if they put a shit ranked manga in the end people would just end up with a bad taste in their mouth after having finished the volume. The ones that have it really worst are the second-third to last.
How many WSJ series are you reading?
>tfw reading almost every series
Fucking kill me
Has there ever been a greater fall in grace in manga history?
Who else here is hoping for Kimetsu no Yaiba to succeed? The first chapter was interesting to say the least.
Attack on Titan is more of a thing for streaming or DVD/BD. TV companies are not interrested, cause they like shows that reached masses in Japan.
It was sold as merchandising property worldwide. One Piece is popular with TV stations worldwide (except America because of 4Kid), because it gets good ratings.
No Anime got the 19:00 airing slot in Japan...since Naruto? Am I wrong with that?
The last worldwide success of Jump was what? Death Note (2006)? It is difficult to create such an impact today. Naruto and Bleach came at a time when the internet was just beginning and that being "annie may" was a novelty. Timing is the key to success.
You tell me anon. Looks like the same artstyle to me! (what I wouldn't give for a Dorohedoro OVA or something)
God damn it, shit. I haven't been reading Gintama all these years because it wasn't serious enough for teenage me and now that I finally find the humor hysterical I find out it eventually gets too serious? Do we at least get like 350 comedy chapters or does it happen pretty early?
TV companies in Germany, Spain, Italy and France always buy new episodes cause its the no.1 anime in ratings. It's popular.
Anime wasn't a novelty then. France and Italy imported popular Jump Anime since the 80's.
The second wave with YuYuHakusho, Kenshin, Dragon Ball reached the US, but Europe already had Saint Seiya and Fist of the North Star.
Devilman didn't even run in WSJ and I love Devilman's art
I'm not talking about quality, I am talking about commercial success. It's hard to get the attention of an audience that has so many options all the time.
Yeah, yeah, Europe is the exception, but in general the great "boom" of anime was in the early 2000s with the Cool Japan shit.
Will the anime be 26 episodes per season thing? It airs at 5pm too. I just dont think it will be a monster ratings hit like One Piece or even Youkai Watch. That's when it is the most mass market, and Japan would want to sell it, outside of the small anime companies.
What Nanatsu magi FMA and many more ware at the same timeslot and they all got big. Really evrything on that slot got big. And BHA can get even bigger. It sell way better than anything befor the anime.
What? No way it's not even more popular than Tokyo ghoul worldwide. TG is dubbed and licensed in 6 languages. Compared to it OPM's achievement is insignificant. It's only doing well in France and North America.
FMA, Magi and Nanatsu are relatively popular Shounen, but it's still not as mass market as One Piece or Youkai Watch.
Primetime anime outside of kodomo shows don't exist anymore, no?
>And 20k for a game is again mediocre
How is it mediocre? A mega popular franchise like Naruto and its game only managed to sell 76k copies so far.
It's just that, autism. The way he praises Hero Academia and hates World Trigger is either way full autism or false flagging so that people start to hate both of them.
I like Hero Academia too, but i don't think it will become as big as OPM, Tokyo Ghoul or AoT in the west.
I don't know what the cutoff is for a "good" or "bad" number of downloads, but I am sure that the Bleach mobile game has at least twice the number downloads than the World Trigger game.
So many free milestone 5 star units.
Whaat did you expect from a manga whose only selling point is the art?
Main characters are so bad that secondaries like Marika, Tsugumi, Ruri and Haru comes off as better in comparison.
I can't wait until Nisekoi is dead.
I'm amazed at how much hate it breeds in me. No, I don't read it anymore- I dropped it very early on, but whenever I see new shit from the latest chapters I get this horrible rage inside.
Not jump but One Punch Man could be one of those "Cowboy Bebop" level breakouts if it got a good dub and got an early time-slot on Adult Swim or something.
Attack on Titan kinda is to a degree in that a lot of people seem to know about it but it doesn't seem to have as much normie appeal. I mean, back in the day I had people sit down and WANT to watch Cowboy Bebop with me who were people who literally hated anime. I don't know if we'll ever see something reach into the "doesn't really watch animation" audience and grab them again that much.
As for Naruto-level fighting shounen appeal? I dunno. My Hero Academia could do it but it won't do it on its own; Naruto and DBZ got their mainstream exposure through daytime airings on CN and CN doesn't really do that anymore since they have their series of cartoons for 30 year-old potsmokers and pansexual tumblrites.
If My Hero Academia got:
-An amazing dub
-A daytime after-school timeslot on CN or another standard cable network
+ a proper marketing push to get enough eyeballs on it early- then maybe.
Superhero media is huge right now so it'd be the right time to do it. I don't think any of these things will happen now however.
The only reason to read it is for the cute girls and reaction faces
>Not jump but One Punch Man could be one of those "Cowboy Bebop" level breakouts if it got a good dub and got an early time-slot on Adult Swim or something.
Those late night cult hits in american tv culture are interresting.
I don't think that exists in Japan and Europe. If its on daytime TV, its mainstream. If not, its not.
The evening slots are big with high schoolers and college students since they typically stay up late. Also later time slots get looser allowances for language and content so more "adult" stuff can be aired.
>not even in color
step up your game
OP is big everywhere except North America. Quite a few manga are actually very popular worldwide but aren't in America. I went overseas in 2006 and saw a lot of OP, Shaman King, HxH were the biggest names.
Boruto (monthly though)
Shokugeki no Soma
Sesuji wo Pin to
? Hinomaru Zumo
so Jump needs at least 4-5 new hits, this is gonna be interesting
WSJ has to bring back old authors to fill the gap
I wonder if Kubo is planning to start a new series
>but it doesn't scream big hit unless it goes full shounen action.
it rose in ranks the moment it stop trying to be a full shounen action series.
Hell Bleezebub got axed because of that reason when it stop focusing on comedy, some series just isn't meant to be like that.
>Is it worth getting into Bleach at this point? At least to know what people are referring to when they talk about Bleach stuff?
Not really. The first 180 chapters of Bleach are good. Then it goes waaaay downhill.
Depends on what you want. If you want adventures and exploration of the world, then you should avoid it. The plot itself is rather simple, though it's becomes more complex towards the end. What is complex are it's many characters, their interactions, secrets and pasts. Bleach character are it's strong points, but if you don't want to care for anyone but the main cast, then you will feel frustated. Bleach uses a constantly rotatiting ensemble.
If had to cmpare Bleach to other shows, I would say, it's like a combination of Lost and JoJo.
He draws backgrounds, but as many times he prefers a clean black/white background. It makes the characters in a scene more prounounced, especially their facial expession and as many times the use of black and white is used for symbolism. But he names this manga Bleach for a reason.
If you're the type who likes forshadowing and digging symbolism and well hidden references, then Bleach could be for you. Also you shouldn't care too much about power levels, since Bleach uses more of a rock-paper-scissor system, unless it's Aizen, Ichigo or Kenpachi.
