>If you were stuck in an MMO, you'd be hot shit instead of a dirty NEET.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar:
>No, you'd still be a worthless asshole. In fact, you'd be fucked.
I love this show for speaking the hard truths.
>Whack rabbits unconscious until you level up
>Stab lonely fun loving goblin repeatedly like a neonazi prison shanker while it utters tormented cries of incomprehensible suffering
>Fun, entertaining ride
>Spent 7 episode to make it REALLY REALLY REALLY clear that they're scrubs
>Spent 7 episode only fighting goblins
>Only 2 or 3 scenes showing actual character dynamics
Well, not that anon but that makes sense to me. If you gonna delude and escape from reality why would you want to fantasize with being a loser?
Betafags in harem at least has certain logic because they get pussies.
Cmon anon, since when has sales reflected how good a show is? Is Narushit good because it's popular? Fuck no.
You have people complain about Japan's shit taste, but when a show someone doesn't like flops, they'll use that as evidence that the show is bad. The fuck kind of logic is that?
>is why it's flopping so hard right now.
The fact you want to belive that doesn't make it true

I dont think thats the idea at all, the idea is
>If you were stuck in an MMO, you'd be hot shit instead of a dirty NEET but you would have to work hard for it
>Work hard always pays off
>No, you'd still be a worthless asshole. In fact, you'd be fucked.
I think it'd be more like this:
>You may or may not still be a worthless asshole. It entirely depends on your ability to take advantage of the world, it's people and it's resources.
>Even with that said though; there's simply no accounting for happenstance.
You could work really hard and still get stabbed in the back by a fucking goblin while trying to take a poop in the woods and fucking die.
The average MMO player is akin to a demigod hero of heroes with nigh unlimited potential for growth beyond any anyone has ever seen. Too bad EVERYONE is that. When its just yet another demigod running around who cares.
Grimgar is nice because it brings back that feeling of the vulnerability. Its not about the fantasy monsters and shit, its that these are a bunch of dumb teenagers.
If it was a western YA book Yume would get knocked up after date rape and shiwhoru would be hispanic and ranta would be black.
Hell, why isn't ranta black NOW?
You know after SAO, Overbored and Log Horizon where worthless pieces of shit get to feel like the countless hours they ground away at a shitty game were actually worth something and they get to Gary Stu all over the place, Grimgar feels like the natural answer to this type of shit.
Succinct and to the point. Bravo, anons.
I am not saying I am a Navy SEAL full of experience and 300 confirmed headshot kills, but I like to believe I would do something basic and smart like NOT making a fucking picnic on enemy territory, or at least I would put someone on watch to avoid everyone getting caught with their dicks flapping around.
Fighting would be hard, but I can use a blade in anger and actually kill instead of just giving my enemy love bite's.
For someone who really didn't want to come off as an internet tough guy, you sure failed miserably huh.
How about we wait until we're really in a full Lord of the Flies situation before saying we'd go full porky.
If I was transported to FF XIV I'd probably still be a worthless asshole but at least I'd be around Miqo'te cuties
But that's not because of the setting, that's because of the characters?
Reiji and friends are doing just fine. And in other trapped in MMO anime like SAO or LH you have a bunch of worthless scrubs who can't do anything right. So it's not like the difference here is that setting is more hardcore, it's just that we're not following the PoV of the MC, we're following the PoV of that one small group of scrub MC meets at one point?
The other group is doing well because there are tough motherfuckers in it.
The scrub platoon are the average NEET squad with no real life skills.
Just like the MCs of the other shows.
The difference is that Grimgar doesn't seem to follow the mechanics of an MMO once you're there. You actually have to learn and train and work like you would in the real world to get anywhere.
That's what makes the setting more hardcore.
Ainz woke up as his lvl. 99 character in his own castle with an army of NPCs and with a full knowledge of the mechanics of the game. Everything works pretty much the same like when he was playing the game from home, only he's physically present now.
Ainz would have been fucked something fierce in Grimgar.
I can compare them in the sense that one's a stupid powerfantasy for basement dwellers and the other is a sober and actually intriguing scenario with stakes and shit.
The entire setting of Overlord was custom made to jack its MC off. Whether he had his memories or not doesn't really matter there.
you must have missed the part where 60% of the LN is NPC perspective and keikaku and about 5% is curbstomping as a logical result of said keikaku
you can bet your ass Ainz would find other ways to shit on new worlders
IA SHUB-NIGGURATH is just fanservice
>entire setting of Overlord was custom made to jack its MC off
>MC doesn't even have sexual desire anymore
>MC spends most of his time worrying and doing acting practice in secret while sweating mentally
If Overlord was about the MC having a good time it'd be set in the glory days of nazarick.
90% of the series is literally:
>I didn't realize you were that weak! Better finish you quick.
>Marry me Ainz-sama.
>As expected of Ainz-sama.
>How can he be so strong?!
The complex condition of being an overpowered fucking demigod that everyone looks up to! Oh woe is me.
I'm so glad that shit was adapted by Madhouse, so there willl never ever be a sequel.
you can't compare them they are about 2 completely different things.
Grimgar is about survival, while overlord is about world conquest.
you can't have a show about world conquest with a weak MC.
while grimgar characters struggle with people dying all the time, overlord characters struggle with themselves, whether its MCs loneliness of no friends the the NPCs loyalty to their only ruler left.
Special A-1 Pictures strategy, if we in theory do the opposite of things that people whine about with a popular genre that makes our show good now....the anime. Remember when they did this with Aldnoah and the mecha genre and how that was supposed to be revolutionary or something.
alright ill discuss this with you on your level since you can't comprehend actual points.
overlord's great, you just like the garbage grimgar cause its edgy and 2deep4u, also its LN art is fucking bottom tier.
>ITS A DECONSTRUCTION OF THE TRAPPED IN A GAME GENRE
be you haven't even read either overlord or grimgar LN cause it doesnt have le epic fight scenes.
>You're not as smart as me because you don't read the LNs
I love OL but these fucking volume names
Welcome to A-1 Pictures shows. Shitty characters, shitty execution of premises that in the hands of other studios would probably not be an issue, fanservice, melodrama out the ass, shitty pacing, hype marketing, insert songs, decent production values and missing the point of what they occasionally do manage to get thematically right once in a while. Despite all this people will claim their shows are amazing and revolutionary even and that the production values just blow everyone else out of the water.
It's like they're just completely incapable of identifying themes and ideas in whatever they work with too and just try to turn everything into some sort of overwrought melodrama or bland seasonal flavor experience. Toho probably should have just founded their own studio rather than trying to work with A-1, it'd probably be much less of a slog of a show, they might have even ended up with something quirky and decent like Bahamut.
This thread is what is wrong with anime community
A massive, autistic piece of shit., dont know about movies or books because i don't give a fuck about them, video games are pretty bad but not as anime
>you'd still be a worthless asshole. In fact, you'd be fucked.
I'd still be socially inept and physically weak, but at least I know healers should stay away from the frontline and that teamwork is key in party play.
I guess one of us in a party would be better than none of us, whereas no one different would mean we're fucked indeed.

First volume got an event ticket a couple of weeks ago. Those are also still really bad preorder numbers and rankings if it keeps up, just everything is doing ultra shitty this season. If it holds and Amazon is accurate it's going to do like 2.5K in the first week, but it's kind of hard to tell sometimes with late adopter series like this one.
Nobody ever fucking knows what they're talking about in the anime scene anymore, it's pretty fucked isn't it? Just a whole bunch of idiots just kind of saying the most extreme shit they can most of the time and acting like everyone besides them is always 100% wrong. No thought or cleverness or anything approaching a real discussion going into any of it, it's just a matter of whoever can say the most mind numbingly stupid typical dumb anime fan thing to say that gets turned into a meme or gets the most replies out of people wins the thread and the discussion I guess, doesn't really matter if it has any basis in reality.
Yet another deconstruction brought to you by Glorious A-1 Pictures who are just above it all now I guess even though most of the things that are currently shitty about popular genre shows are kind of directly a result of their influence.
Yeah but for whatever reason people think it's different because they don't actually watch mecha and have this idea in their head about every single one being like a super robot show. If I want to watch a David vs. Goliath scenario in mecha where a guy largely takes down mechs using his wits I'll just stick to Mellowlink or something which does it a hell of a lot better.
I wouldn't mind this pacing if it was a 25 episode anime, but 13 with this pacing? No, you're killing it. Whoever directed this anime is awful.
Vol 1 should've ended by now, Vol 2 should be cut short and add only a bit of Ranta drama and Ranta vs Kobolds, then final fight. Then Vol 3 should have been the final one, ending with Moguzo's death
I blame whoever thought that the only way to start a thread nowadays is to bait-post.
Now lurkers and newfags are actually learning the wrong impression that you're supposed to shitpost and use bait all the fucking time.
I love how apparently a genre being so one note in it's execution on average and just over-saturated in general means if someone takes even a moderately different approach (or opposite extreme approach) that just means a stroke of brilliance on their part apparently. I wonder when we'll see A-1 "deconstruct" the battle harem genre, maybe that's what Asterisk part 2 will get labelled as or something.
>If you were stuck in an MMO, you'd be hot shit instead of a dirty NEET.
>maybe you should have picked a magic sword instead of the retard goddess.
I know right, it's pretty embarrassing and kind of like a sad sack comedy to see play out season after season lately but if you try to say anything about it you're just reddit scum, a crossboarder from /v/, a faggot or autistic so it is what it is.
Even if I don't know how to do parkour I could just try doing what Altair does everyday and master it in a few weeks.
I'm certain if someone can finish a no death run of a Souls game and plays dungeon crawlers or shit like stalkersoup, then they're more likely to survive than the average guy
He's a nolife MMO player who knows a lot about the game but isn't super smart or anything. That's his whole character.
I mean the first thing he does is touch breasts and get embarassed about it.
i would not mind this anime if people were not autistic i mean it was cute in the beginning but now i am just waiting for them to communicate like normal human beings. especially the purple hair chick she acts like she is 6.
isnt that the idea behind heavy object?
just because /a/ likes it doesn't mean its brilliant. I like it because its fun, I don't need other shit like 'deconstruction'
They are teenagers anon, them even being watchable is a grace by the author.
I don't like it at all. The show specifically puts focuses on people who are incompetent, immoral, and irrational, unlike, say Kirito from SAO. They're all losers in this show. No one wants to identify with a loser, especially other losers.
People should watch characters who are admired for their talent, skills and morality. Those are traits the common loser never possesses. I would rather watch a Mary Sue than some Beta who still somehow manages to be treated with respect he never earned.
There needs to be a characters like Kirito or Touma that can just easily solve all the plot's problems and beat all the enemies down. It's not fun watching these characters struggle all the time, lose, and be out planned by the enemies. It shows how pathetic the main cast is, and how uninteresting it is that there isn't an Ace among them.
Even if you lost your memories, there is still some idea of who you were before you entered Grimgar. Manato felt like he should drink at the bar because he was convinced he did that in his previous life by whatever latent memories he did have.
Renji gathered the strongest people to form his group. How he determined that, who the fuck knows, but basically the main cast are the runts of the litter. They also had Manato wiping their asses for them for a long time too, so they're especially weak.
So it's the setting and the characters. You have a predisposition based on your life from before the game. The main cast simply do not possess whatever strength Renji saw in other members.
One thing I don't like about Grimgar is how narration practically starts off with Renji's grou already buying their badges. It begs the question as to how big the time gap is from them entering to the main cast's encounter with the goblins, and what the main cast was doing in that time gap.
