Just finished gunbuster, does the sequel's plot live up to the original? More importantly, do the boobies?
The plot isn't as avant garde since that tends to be Anno's style, but its overall more consistent and was more enjoyable for me personally.
And no the boobies aren't as nice.
I don't think the animation is as obnoxious and exaggerated as gurren Lagann though.
>The plot isn't as avant garde
Would you really call it avant-garde though? The last episode being black and white was really artsy but nothing else really struck me as innovative
I don't think I would label the entire show as avant garde, but it definitely felt more daring and inspired with the whole time travel and science thing. Diebuster didn't have any of that.
It does. But its also a very different show. Diebuster is good in ways Gunbuster isn't. They both have their flaws, but both of them more than make up from them in their own way.
Kind of. I remember revisiting Diebuster a few years ago and being astonished at the production values for it. I just didn't remember it looking quite that good. The soundtrack is also phenomenal and glorious:
really shows the difference between pre and post eva Gainax
I'm thinking of marathoning Gun and Diebuster in order one day (I watched Diebuster before Gunbuster and forgot all about the former).
I seperate Gainax's eras between pre-Eva, post-Eva, and dead
remember before Gainax died there were lots of people that hated all that Gainax made after Eva. Especially when Gun and Die buster got involved.
but it was like when Michael Jackson died. Black, White, he was still the king of pop.
Except Diebuster is only 6 episodes long, compared to Gurren Lagann which dragged on for a full two cours.
OP if you like Gurren Lagann be aware that it's extremely derivative of Diebuster, so you'll see a lot of the same tropes and character archetypes in GL, except greatly condensed.
The sequel does not live up to the original.
The OP is 10/10 though and the ending is good -for certain reasons-. Watch it only if you really love the original and want even the smallest bit of content that you can squeeze out of the casual trash known as Diebuster.
Honestly could be the whole show desu
OP here, I'm gonna watch with average expectations. Speaking of gainax , how's NGE compared to gunbuster? I avoided it while getting into anime because it looks so heavy handed with its symbolism
The symbolism is a meme
the crosses and christian references don't mean anything, it's just there to look cool
all you need to know is that Eva's variation of Noriko gets dicked, HARD
the father is a dick
the mentor is a drunkard
the onee-sama is artificial
the foreign girl is just a bitch
and the one's funding it are the Illuminati
Cool I guess? And also spoilers?
only possible spoiler is the onee-chan one
everything is pretty established by the first ep (except the Illuminati one, if you are not paying attention closely/reading the supplementary material you'll never figure that out).
>The plot isn't as avant garde
I dunno man, the director of Diebuster fucked with the pacing and narrative pretty hard in order to, I guess, "increase tension" or something. There are flashbacks everywhere and certain quotes, scenes, and dialogue in the beginning don't make sense until the trend or on a 2nd watch-through. It doesn't work toward the show's benefit in my opinion but on a research does make for a more satisfying show when you see how the pieces fit together.
Reminds me of FLCL in that sense. Fun the first time through, but it doesn't really click until the 2nd or 3rd watch
>on a research
On a re-watch
Fucking auto correct
Sorry for being new/not alive yet when these were made, but are these series at all related to Gunbuster or helped inspire it? I remember reading that GB took inspiration from a number of sources, including a tennis anime.
>Fight! Iczer One is a 1983 sci-fi horror and yuri manga .... The story features strong body horror.
Sounds awesome already.
They're related in that they're 80s OVAs featuring women piloting robots, and they're coming out on BD. People interested in Gunbuster should probably give these a shot, now especially since they'll be in HD.
Iczer's villains are even called Cthulhu.
>ywn know what sounds Noriko makes during sex
>People interested in Gunbuster should probably give these a shot
OK! Checking out these older shows has been fun for me when I get the chance to.
Hope it won't be too hard to track down a download for the BDs. It's a little expensive, at $150.
