I just finished Eureka Seven and fucking loved it, so I want to talk about it.
What did /a/ think of it?
Are any of the specials/movie worth watching?
Is AO really as bad as I've heard?
I love it but haven't watch the movie. Yes, Ao is as awful as you've heard.
Give the manga a look, a lot of it is just an overly-condensed version of the anime but it does some different things to the main series. Also it's very short.
I remember hating the movie but I can't remember why.
Eureka Seven is easily in my top 5, I don't ever see it getting the praise it deserves, it far surpasses Eva in my opinion.
The movie is pretty bad.
Ao is a piece of shit. It was fine the first few episodes, but they forgot they were doing a full fledged show and started doing monster of the week until they remembered there was actual plot. Holy shit, AO is so bad, I mean I don't love E7, but not even that deserves such a shitty sequel.
The less you know about Ao the better. What makes its truely horrible is not the quality of the anime itself, its the way it shits all over everything l the first series special. It will ruin the first Eureka7 for you if you take it as cannon
a great series, it's one of my favorites
watch the movie, it's cute, don't expect much
ao is absolute shit, it has nothing to do with E7 (retconned bs nonsensical storyline amounting to "Dewey was right") but ost is good and adult eureka is a goddess
>sequel is so shit that if you watch it basically ruins the original series too
What's with mecha anime
Holland. What a fine man. But really E7 was the best part of my adolescent anime years. Soundtrack was good, too. I used to listen to Himitsu Kichi on loop every night before bed for several months.
Read the manga, faget
It does. Eureka Seven was enjoyable and Eva was not.
The movie is good and worth watching but you might want to go into it with the right mindset. It's a completely different story told with the same characters, although their personalities are also changed. It's still Eureka Seven in a lot of ways, but it's neither a sequel nor a retelling.
She's so lovable and cute, even when she's throwing a fit or acting nuts.
Also whenever she's on screen my pants gets tighter
I enjoyed re-watching some of the first half of E7. The Renton bullying is so much more tolerable with story context. And that constant "Coralian" business that wasn't explained until quite far along is nice to see unfold.
Maybe. But at this point I'd rather have an original mecha anime.
Get the guy from Macross to do the designs again (he did Type-ZERO and the surfboards), the guy is a fuckin' genius.
>AO is pretty bad if you think of as a sequel to E7, but it's ok on its own.
No, it's pretty bad on its own as well.
It's actually a worse show than it is a sequel.
Plot full of internal inconsistencies and anticlimaxes, an entire group of characters billed as mains having zero effect on the plot, plot reset button, hackneyed political angle, passable mech fights. Basically only the soundtrack was good.
That wasn't Renton
Renton would never act like Holland and sound like Holland and Bones attempting some kinda sick pottery here just shows that they simply did not understand a single fucking thing that they themselves wrote in the 2005 series.
It's 10/10. The movie's alright for an AU. AO is an abortion. Also I do hope you watched it in JP.
Nobody is worst in this show. Not even Holland. Hush up.
by itself, AO was barely decent. as a sequel to E7, it never should have existed, and they should make another sequel, this time with the original, actual story writers of E7, to undo the clusterfuck of a sequel that was AO and make it so that AO never happened. if you do not want to ruin your experience of E7, do not watch AO, just decide that AO has never existed
if you are more liberal about what you consider to be canon, there is a very good E7 fanfiction series written by KEN-GOH, as a sequel to E7. After reading this series, i would think that, if the original writers has been brought back to work on the sequel, the story would have turned out something like this fanfiction. at the very least, it doesn't shit all over E7 like what AO did.
I suppose everybody has their own experiences, but the first time I watched E7 it was dubbed and. I despised it (notably Renton and Eureka's voices). Years later I watched it once more only this time in Japanese and it became one pf my favorites. Then I just learned to hate dubs period.
that's because dubs never take it seriously. for example, in the original japanese, during a serious scene, the VA would say in a serious, mature voice, "I must avenge my father". ANd the we get dub, where it sounds like some squeaky, 12 year old kid's voice saying "i'm gonna do it for my papa!!"
Well, it did have a bittersweet end. A lot of the downers are just more of the bad shit happening to actual main characters-
even in the original, it was made clear that the majority of the major cities were getting obliterated by satellite chunks.
Eureka Seven is one of those shows that I sort of followed when I was a teen and came back to later, and I liked it a lot. After awhile and the amount of times I rewatched it, I ruined it for myself, or I finally realized a lot of the ''subtle'' undertones were actually very forced, and the show seemed to lose its balance when you knew its full formula.
Its a show id still recommend to people, and one I cant say I didnt enjoy, but its definitely one that you grow out of. That isn't really a bad thing, for a year or two.. I even had Eureka as a waifu, and that really did better me as person. My point being is im glad I didnt become one of those fans on tumblr that obsess over the show non stop.
The true menace of AO is that it tricked the viewer several times into thinking it was getting better, only to get even worse, with the the final time just plunging into a pit of shit. I mean, there were legitimately cool moments, episodes, and ideas. Pic related. It's just that they all got turned to shit by a couple episodes later
I wanted to see Anemone and Dominic and the rest of Gekkostate again ;_;
I have a bunch of photos of just Eureka from the weekend waifu threads.
I wish at least one anon had drawn Anemone too. Still, good stuff in here.
It literally ended on
Ao falling to his death. They played it like it was a happy ending, but the version of Earth that he arrived at explicitly had no trapar, and his board only floats on trapar, so he's fucked.
The only good thing to come out of AO were the months of delusions and Eureka AU threads
I couldn't sit through ao and I have a pretty high tolerance
The movie while not what some may have wanted was actually pretty interesting and had a great sound track and moments.
I love the series I love the movie
the Truth ruined Ao
How is Axel not dead by this point in their lives? Also I've been wondering this for a while: would Eureka live to be much older than Renton? Like hundreds, maybe thousands of years older?
Renton is voiced by a woman instead of JYB with his balls in a vice, which I much prefer. Also prefer Eureka's seiyuu by a long way.
Her せいゆう reminded me a lot of her english va. It felt like steph was speaking japanese
It was one of my all time favorites. The movie is worth watching, not amazing but decent. Sort of an alternate reality type deal. Never watched AO despite being such a big fan cause I heard terrible things and didn't want to ruin the franchise.
