So we've seen anime go through different style trends over the decades and today you can definitely see a more uniform style through mainstream anime. I would say anime today looks even quite different from anime 10 years ago.

My question is, where do you think anime will go style wise in a decade or more from now? Is it even possible to predict trends? What are the major factors in styles evolving on a macro level?

>where do you think anime will go style wise in a decade or more from now?

I'm not sure, but one thing I can be certain is Beserk will only be two chapters from where we are now.

>Is it even possible to predict trends?

Honestly, I don't think so. People always try to predict the future, usually they're wrong.

What are the major factors in styles evolving on a macro level?

What sells. If something popular and profitable happens, you're damned if you don't think other studios are going to either emulate or copy that anime

Don't know about timeless factors, but digital graphics and effects are probably going to be a major upcoming factor.
>>
>>137587920
LN anime always come out popular. True fact.
>>
>>137587732
This is more about manga, but has anyone else noticed series popping up recently with similar styles to Ran to Haiiro no Sekai? I've been wondering if it's the starting point or if there's some other influence there (or maybe I just wasn't noticing it before and it's not a new trend at all).

I don't know how much that applies to artstyles, though. If something's profitable, it seems the first instinct for trying to replicate that success is most often the story or the really popular characters.

I don't know what's dumber, caring about dubs or apparently thinking that the money for dub actors comes from the same source as the money for the animators.

I think by then the moeblob style will be used so much that the style will devolve in an attempt to make the characters stand out.

I dunno man. It looks pretty clear to me that the male faces are turning more and more angular, with their eyes getting sharper as well. Soon there's probably gonna be a bunch of Ramiel- looking anime boys in 2020.

As for the girls, they get tight-lipped each decade while their pupils begin to reach Shiki level.

If you're looking for an actual response, I doubt there's gonna be much of a specific trend, as we've apparently reached the 'muh diversity' stage, what with current anime taking vastly different approaches. If it's the majority you're referring to, I'd lean more towards plainer, softer designs since anime studios seem so taken to cheap production.

What's left of the detail peak of the 90s will give way to less detailed easier to craft via cgi artstyles all the way until all of anime is cgi except for the line art of the main characters.
Fucking quote me on this. I said it like five years ago and it's only gotten closer to correct (*cough* -monogatari *cough*).
>>
>>137589262
>(*cough* -monogatari *cough*)
I don't think you were here five years ago.
>>
>>137589262
Anon, using Monogatari to argue that all anime will be CGI is like being in the 80s and arguing that all anime in the future will be pastel stills because of Dezaki. SHAFT's whole thing is mixed media to cut costs.
>>
>>137589298
I've been here since /v/'s blue /b/ era.
>>137589369
It'd be like arguing no anime would be hand painted in the 80s because the cheap shows had stopped doing it. And I'd be right.
It's a general trend exemplified by Shaft's nonsense and otaku licking it up, but it's still a general trend.
7 years ago cgi background characters would be unheard of. Now they're all over.
>>
I know it has not been that long, but the way Hayate in HnG is drawn..
He went from a normal looking young guy to a bishounen who could easily be crossdressed... And now suddenly he has those horrible eyes and the hairstyle got simplifed.
>>
>>137589434
>Shaft's nonsense
Someone doesn't understand art.
>>
>>137589484
Maybe if Shaft was combining gomotion and cutout animation I'd think the clashing paradims were avant garde instead of 95% cost cutting and 5% pretension.
>>
>>137589575
They're making use of the different resources available to them, and the result is good. I don't know why anyone has an issue with it.
>>
>>137589671
The 2d and 3d visuals blatant clash with one another.
It's like watching Toy Story but Andy's toys are all hand drawn. It's awful.
>>
>>137589705
Just because you can tell them apart doesn't mean they're clashing.
>>
>>137589731
Any time I consciously notice the how instead of the what they're clashing. It takes me out of the world.
>>
>>137589750
I'm sorry to hear that you enjoy anime unless you can block out all thoughts about how it was made. Make sure to never learn about animation techniques, I guess.
>>
>>137589773
I'm not saying pack up the computers and break out the celluloid. I'm saying not even trying to strike a consistent manual of style wouldn't fly in any other visual medium. It's awful when they don't try and it's awful when people like Shaft try to pretend it's a feature.
>>
>>137589750
Anyone else have this clash really hurt Ghost in the shell innocence for them?

What I'm seeing here is that Noa (although that could be Leona) and Amuro are the Adam and Eve of 80s anime.

Makes sense.

No. The statements aren't contradictory. Calling for cgi to not awkwardly stick out isn't calling for no cgi at all.
I may find the vast majority of digital coloring to be inferior in quality to even the most basic low budget shows from the cel era, but it's not something that distracts me or takes me out of what's happening on screen.

I just wish contemporary anime had better use of color.
