Rei is a clone of Shinji's mother, Yui. Well, her body is, at least. Her soul is that of Lilith, which is why she shows hardly any emotion.

Lilith and Adam are aliens. Their race has sent eggs into space, each one containing one alien and one of the things that NERV calls 'Lance of Longinus'. These lances come in play on the off chance that two eggs land on the same planet, which is an undesirable outcome. Adam was the first to arrive on earth, and is the progenitor of the Angels, bearing the fruit of life, granting his offspring enormous strength and size. Lilith, who is the progenitor of the humans, arrived second, bearing the fruit if wisdom. Now, normally, Lilith's lance would have activated and impaled her, seeing as she came second to earth, but the lance broke on impact and thus, Adam got impaled instead, and sealed away. Mankind thrived while the angels slumbered.
Things started going south, however, when Adam was discovered and the second impact was triggered. This is all due to a certain plan which I will explain later.

Alright, there's an organization called Seele that orders Gendo, right? They have a plan called the Human Instrumentality Project. The gist of that plan is to end all human suffering by re-uniting them into their original form, which is LCL. That's the stuff in the Evangelion Units. Which is essentially primordial soup. To do this, they need to trigger the third impact. I don't remember exactly how this works but it has something to do with Unit 01, which is a clone of Lilith, being pierced by Longinus. Running out of space now, for the rest, read the manga.

I just got done watching it too. I didn't see EoE yet but I have a few questions.

I want it to sink in for awhile before I watch EoE otherwise I feel like it'll forever be lost on me. So from my understanding in episodes 25 and 26 everyone had died, correct? It showed Misato shot and the other chick floating in the angel cum shit (at least I think its angel cum) and I assume Shinji's dad murdered them for... I don't know, to start the instrumentation thing? If so what a weird way to segway into the climax.

I'm just going to assume EoE shows what happened before and possibly after as its called EoE (I only know a few details like Shinji jacking it to Asuka, giant Rei and Shinji strangling Asuka and that kick ass song. Otherwise I know nothing.)

So anyway WAS that Misato, Asuka, Rei, cool glasses kid and strong muh sister kid? Or was just that Shinji's thoughts? I think both... but it's so bizzare and if so were they congratulating Shinji for finally realizing being a whiny bitch is a shit way to live?

That ending was so weird. I've never experienced anything like it. It was so trippy, unconventional and awesome. At first I was like what the fuck is this shit but as I've sat on it for a few hours it's really growing on me. I'm not going to see EoE for another 12 hours or so to let the last two episodes sink in. I do feel like it's not a conclusion which once again is why I assume EoE exists.

Without spoiling EoE can you say I'm close or completely off?

This is one of the few times in anime where open to interpretation was done extremely, extremely well. I'm glad whoever wrote this respected his viewers enough to let us come to our own conclusions and didn't just scream out everything.

While typing this I thought about Kaji's death again. For the first few minutes I assumed Misato killed him because she was just given a gun and the next scene he was shot but then I noticed I completely misinterpreted that. So was it just a hitman? And he obviously knew his fate after rescuing the old man.

And finally was Misato making a sexual advance on Shinji when she grabbed his hand or a sisterly approach? It seemed sexual to me and she was completely fucked up in the head at that point.

no idea to be honest, never crossed my mind and don't remember reading anything about it.
What is for sure is that she had a mental breakdown after getting her mind fucked by that angel that made her remember her mother's suicide. After that she couldn't pilot the Eva again so they needed a replacement.

Okay. I'll leave this thread for now and will come back after I watched the movie. I'm glad this thread exists because I was able to flesh out a few of my thoughts through typing and discussing. I'm going to wait a little bit because like I said earlier I feel like if I watched it right away it'll all just mesh together and be completely confusing. This isn't a normal series and I shouldn't treat it as such. In fact I didn't binge watch it either and it took me about 3 weeks to watch it and I feel like that was for the best.

I will return to this thread once I'm done but if it's 404'd (Pretty high chance) I'll make a new one with the subject being as such, "Evangelion/EoE discussion thread" or something similar to that effect with the OP having a picture of the entire cast of characters.
