Why do you still watch harem anime, /a/?

Isn't there a point where you have to outgrow them?
>>
There are too many of them to dodge.
>>
>>137552080
Might as well asking why am I still watching anime.
>>
>outgrow
Nigger. I grew into them.
God bless the surgeon that got the stick out of my ass.
>>
>>137552106
This. And even a lot of them that start out looking non-harem eventually devolve into haremshit.
>>
>>137552080
Oddly enough, with battle harems in particular, I always watch the first five or so episodes and then drop them for some reason or another. I've done this for years now yet I always pick up a harem show expecting to like it and watch it all the way through.
>>
They have evolved anon, they start normal enough and haremshit get into the series in the middle for drama.

>>137552297
Pretty much me, except I only watched it for 2-3 episodes.

Isn't it the other way around?
Most people act like pretentious faggots when they start watching anime and only enjoy "deep" and "intellectual" ones, but as they watch more anime, they learn to appreciate it for what it really is - juvenile mass entertainment - and get that stick out of their ass and expand their horizons.
I have a hard time believing anyone who has seen more 200 anime genuinely complains about "haremshit".
>>

You're just described the first two stages of infection in a forty stage disease. Ultimately a harem in an anime is fine, that's just a symptom of the industry. What sucks is when it's literally the whole show and there's nothing else there. See: MSG Iron-Blooded Orphans. Is there a bit of harem? yes. Is the show completely dominated by harem shit? No.

>Nine gorillion "harem" animu every season.
>GUNDAM, of all places, gives us an actual, literal harem.
>>
more female characters = more chances of favorite female characters

/a/ only watches harems for waifuism the anime equivalent of a beauty pageant
>>
>>137553062

That's the issue, isn't it? All of the "harem" shows don't actually have a harem, but rather an annoying formula that involves non-commitment with lots of potential love interests. It's the specific formula (thanks IS) that is disliked, not multiple romantic interests.
>>
>>137552080

I like watching cute girls!
>>
>>137552741
If you're serious, you must have lived your life surrounded with plebs and newfags.

Most people I know who have weebshit all over their life found the current surge of harem series to be annoying and we mutually dislike them.
We do watch it for the girls and fanservice stuffs and turned our brains off, but that doesn't mean the current state of industry is fine to us.
>>
>>137553323
ThIis.
I was thinking the same, I started off watching harem anime didn't really complain about until I noticed how much was being pumped out every season and every year.
Then I just learned how to watch it or avoid it.
Even when I do watch it, I just watch like 3-5 episodes and then drop it.
>>
I don't mind them.

Usually I watch them for something lighter to watch after watching something more serious or dark.
Or because I find them stupidly humorous.
>>
>>137552741
i can't imagine anyone appreciating the generic harem male MCs no matter how much anime they watch
>>
Because I'm a gigantic manchild who has horrid taste and thinks with his dick. Oh but who cares? It wars my heart knowing there'll always be seasonal haremshit to tide me over.

Why does it suck? What do you want from anime?

There are a few rare occasions when they work out perfectly and id hate to be someone who misses one of them.
>>
These days i avoid anything with harems unless the male character single handedly makes it worth watching since otherwise it'll be boring as shit.

That one with Yuuji in it was the last one I watched and finished.
>>
Why are moefags so vocally negative about harems?
>>
>>137554132
Because in harems, the girls are less characters as they are stuffed animals you win at a carnival.

Or at least that's what I think the reason likely is.
>>
>>137552080
i already outgrew them
but I still have a lot of them on my mal list plan to watch
i need to complete everything and mark them as complete

sometimes i watch them at work or wiht 4x speed to make it faster

Just find a new hobby.

Because I like them for some inexplicable reason I chalk up to shit taste.

Well written plot without too many cliches and original characters not completely based on previous archtypes. Is that too much to ask for?

And don't give me that bullshit about "If you want a good story, read a book." or anything like that. A good story isn't something that's exclusive or impossible for any medium. Accepting anything less is just having low standards.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine to watch trite generic harems for the turn-your-brain-off enjoyment, as long as you make the distinction between those shows and shows that are actually good. Unfortunately the industry is obviously rampant with that shit right now, and its probably not gonna go away for a while, so no sense complaining about it at this point.
>>

>Isn't there a point where you have to outgrow them?

I already outgrew fake harems like IS. I'm looking forward to future anime adaptions of actual harems already in WN/LN form.

I like harem when all the girls realized the mc are useless and cant do nothing except being nice and leave him for superior dick

Also sometimes i feel i like the MC more than the girls. Someone who i can be bros with.

I question the existence of this in any form.
>>
>>137552080
I don't watch harem anime, I watch anime that I think it's fun. What can I do if some of them are harems? Stop watching just because some faggots don't like them? Fuck these guys, if they don't like people to have fun then they can go discuss Eva for the 500th time sucking each others cocks and I will have fun like a normal person.

We're already to far in to stop now. Lets just go further and see where its takes us.
>>
>>137552080
I don't. Last haremshit I watched was to better get the vast h-material of it, and that was years ago. Afterwards I realized it was completely pointless as you could deduct everyone's personality just from looking at their design and pinning it on the most obvious archetype.

>>137555164
I'd love to see NTR harem outside doujinshi.
>>

Actual harems where the MC fucks, has kids and forms a loving family with the girls.

I agree with you on most points, but you have to understand what the target audience is when dealing with entertainment. Nobody thinks harem anime are art and one would be idiotic to even consider such a thing, but some people can think they are good entertainment. Which is the only thing that really matters, it's a subjective thing although not being the target audience and the story failing at what it was trying to achieve are two entirely different things. It's important to recognize that not every show needs to be deep, otherwise we couldn't have stuff like JoJo or Lucky Star.
>>
>>137555068
>Well written plot without too many cliches and original characters not completely based on previous archtypes. Is that too much to ask for?
There are plenty of anime like that. Out of the 40-50 shows that air every season, only a handful of those are harems, and the rest is a good mix of other genres. In fact, there's so much variety these days that anybody who complains about one or two genres probably doesn't watch much anime.

You act like the existence of harems (or CGDCT, or idol shows, or LN adaptations, or whatever else you might think is cancer) precludes the existence of "good" anime, but it really doesn't. Anime production isn't a zero-sum game like that.

>Accepting anything less is just having low standards.
>it's fine to watch trite generic harems for the turn-your-brain-off enjoyment, as long as you make the distinction between those shows and shows that are actually good
There's nothing wrong with enjoying generic or cliched shows. Given the choice between enjoying something and not enjoying something, why shouldn't I choose the former? Why do people get so caught up with this notion of having good taste on an anonymous image board, as though they have something to prove?

Here's the kind of people that "grew up" from harem anime. You should join them.
>>
>>137555515
If you can enjoy generic and cliched shows then power to you. I can't. I'm not trying to be pretentious. In fact, I'm jealous. I have no idea how you can enjoy generic rehashed shows. I've tried. Id like to be able to enjoy shows like that, but I just can't. They feel like a complete waste of time.

If I watch a show I enjoy I'll get hooked and marathon a ton of episodes at once. For generic mediocre stuff I'll barely ever be able to push myself to watch more than one at a time, let alone finish it.

It's not like I want every show to be deep, but I want every show to be good at or creative at something.

To use JoJo as an example since you mentioned it, JoJo isn't deep by any stretch, but a few key things, most notably the stylization and character designs are what make it stand out as creative.
>>
>>137557377
I get where you're coming from. I find some shows easier to marathon than others, too. But for me, anime can be more than just the plot or the characters. Sometimes I just like watching cute girls, or maybe I like listening to the seiyuu, or I might like the band that does the OP or ED. Maybe I liked other shows that the staff have worked on. I can appreciate these little things even if the show as a whole isn't that great.
>>
>>137552080
Apparently that point is at 17 years old. I'm 25 now, can't stand harems.
>>
