Honestly I wouldn't even call the show exceptionally bad, just par for the course post 2010 Aniplex mecha original bad. I don't see how it's any better or worse than say Valvrave, Guilty Crown, Star Driver and the like. Maybe if they'd just stop making the same mistakes over and over and over again and figure out what they did with stuff like Gurren Lagann it'd be a start in the right direction. If it were me I'd start with not hiring people like Urobuchi, Aoki, Sawano and Okouchi anymore just because they are trendy and some of them worked on mecha hits like Geass and Unicorn and start hiring people that actually know what they are doing in some capacity in the positions that matter like director and series composition. I mean for fucks sake Aoki said his main sources for inspiration for Aldnoah Zero were Mobile Suit Gundam and Hades Project Zeorymer. If people don't know what Zeorymer is I'd suggest going to watch it as I can see where the influence is from and it'll explain a lot.

For the record this is the real Aniplex Guy (not the imaginary /a/ one) that they got to do their promotions for them at conventions and in canned interviews on ANN and the like. They literally thought that little of the American fanbase that this is the caliber of professionalism, general intellect and vocabulary that they chose to go with of as the American face of the company during this Just Do It phase that is still kind of going in a way albeit with less bullshit claims per interview.

Pretty sure he's since left the company to join Atlus as a PR person instead where the brand doesn't just inspire general loathing in fans by default. Probably just got tired of getting absolutely shit on every convention over bad pricing schemes and not being able to do anything that involved going off script.
