Well one thing is that they'll some how make the same logical conclusions to progress the plot in the anime as in the manga, but in the anime they have given you no context or information as to why they are doing it, or what is going on. That's just one reason the manga is better, they take the time to actually have the plot make some sense.

I hate defaulting to "the manga was better" but this is a case where that is definitely true.

You essentially have the main character abandoning their home and distancing themselves from Anteiku, forcing Touka and the others to deal with it while Kaneki himself has little understanding of what's happening to him and the control he's losing. One of the best scenes is Amon seeing him devouring bodies considering Kaneki pretty much refused to fight him in season 1. Along with that you have Hide himself looking into what happened, Shinohara looking after Suzuya, Amon dealing with Mado's daughter, revelations about different ghoul characters, etc.

Don't act like there wasn't anything going on or there wasn't any story.

How are you supposed to understand Kaneki? There is no basis for his motivation and actions provided. What he does makes no logical sense without Kanou or without Aogiri as an enemy. Root A's draft storyboard took out the latter, but the former was still a part of the story. He's supposed to be working to eliminate what he considers to be a threat to himself, but the anime does not present this at all. It's just shit goes bad.

I watched season 1 and enjoyed it and watched season 2 and thought it was okay. Then I immediately read the manga from the beginning and I understood why everyone likes the manga much more.

The "story" in season 2 is just a failed attempt at creating a different timeline. It's difficult for me to pick every example buy you don't realize the plot holes until you read the manga. I was constantly saying "oh so this is why that happens" over and over again.

The only thing the anime is good for is its OST and showing Kaneki's transformation at the end of s1

I watched the anime first and had no idea what was going on with Shachi. Kakuja and Arima's buildup are basically gone, so they come from nowhere.

Kaneki and Amon had a big fight.
Amon lost an arm and his shoulder, Kaneki got a big chunk of flesh ripped ouf of his side.

Kaneki went crazy because of the pain and the hunger, then Hide appeared to save him. Kaneki ate Hide in his madness and after that he got skullfucked by Arima.

All these things were not shown in the anime but they happened. They were just too lazy to animate it.

Is it really that bad? I must admit that I dropped the manga and the anime a while ago, because it bored me. I don't remember which part was though. I think it was after the battle with Shu on that church, but I'm not sure. I don't want spoilers, just a sincere opinion. Is it worth it?

My take on Tokyo Ghoul is a bit odd. I watched both seasons and I thought first one was 6/10 at best. But oh boy did that 2nd season crash to a 2/10. I know people always kept yelling read the manga and I gave it a try. Well I gotta give credit where it's due. The original manga is a solid 8/10. However, its continuation is something else that I barely even remember to read.

TG anime = dogshit.
TG manga = extremely good.

Attack on Titan anime = great.
Attack on Titan manga = decent.

One Punch Man anime = amazing.
One Punch Man manga = amazing.

Berserk = P E R F E C T I O N

After dropping the show halway through Root A and complaining about it here, someone recommended I read the manga from the begining instead

I'm REALLY glad I did because I loved it, why did such a great manga need to have such a butchered adaption is beyond me

The ending to Root of A was actually pretty good honestly. Every other change they made was awful but the ending was well done. Overall S2 is still shit though.

Both anime and manga (sequel) are nothing but garbage. Mangaka panders to fujoshis/edgy teenagers; and :re is muh power levels shonen manga with the chosen one/very special snowflake MC.
TG (prequel) was ok, a readable/decent manga though. /a/ liked it, at the very least I guess.
