Is there any shonen anime in which the characters, other than the protagonist and his rival, aren't turned into complete sandbags after some time?
>extremely powerful characters that befriend the main character in his adventure
>few episodes after their arc they're useless side characters who just give insight on the sidelines about how strong the main character is
Yeah i mean, dragonball is the mother of all character degeneration. It's one thing that Krillin, Yamcha and Chaotzu become obsolete but characters like Tien and Piccolo, even Gotenks and now in super, Gohan, the character that surpassed even Vegito is weaker than Piccolo now. Vegeta had half a year training with a literal God ahead of Goku, but Goku still surpasses him again as they train together. If you aren't Goku, you're worth shit.
In other anime the supporting characters have some degree of importance but in Dragonball they're nothing. You can literally write Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, Yajirobe, Piccolo, Goten, Gohan, Trunks, Boo and Chaotzu out of the story at this point and nothing was lost.
Well Buu was too strong for both of them. Also in Super he not only squeezed some reaction out of Beerus (Goku never managed to do that without the God transformation), humiliated Frieza (he was already weakened, agreed) and is obviously considered every bit Goku's equal by Whis. I think the tendency is reversing.
You posted one anon.
When Goku came to Whis and Vegeta to train with them, Vegeta had double the amount of weight Goku had to carry because he had HALF A YEAR training ahead if Goku, so he was MUCH stronger than Goku at this point. Yet when Frieza came, it was Goku again to whoop his ass. Goku catched up to Vegeta even though being a low class warrior. They had the same training this time, yet Goku still surpassed Vegeta again. Fuck this
Goku would've been able to do the same if he wasn't so obsessed with playing around with his opponents. Vegeta on the other hand would've enjoyed torturing Frieza way too much so the outcome would be the same regardless.
HxH is totally accurate though. Gon is frequently outclassed by his enemies and other hunters. He and Killua have loads of potential but they're still relatively small time by their universe's standards.
So then tell me what Vegeta did accomplish after the saiyan arc.
>cornered frieza but got surpassed easily after a transformation
>got killed in the process
>lost to the androids
>let cell absorb 18 on purpose
>almost died fighting cell
>had to resort to literal magic to catch up to goku, but goku secretly is on a whole new level regardless
>blew himself up to kill buu, with no success
>the only time he managed to damage buu was when fused with goku
>he literally is the punching bag for buu while goku saves the world
Dude. The only time in the anime, after the saiyan arc, when Vegeta outclassed Goku, was in the Cell arc, and he fucked up. And Trunks was almost as strong as Vegeta here mind you.
They literally answered that in super.
The reason Goku and Vegeta chose Bulma and Chichi was because they're so strong willed. They literally are like saiyan women, just weaker.
>extremely powerful main character befriends the main character in his adventure
>does nothing for twenty years but still part of the cast when he doesn't even act as a talking head to comment on fights
I remember all the recurring fighters of Yu Yu Hakusho staying competent warriors for the whole show with the exception of Kuwabara, who was still top dog but missed the demon world tournament for reasons I forgot, maybe because he wasn't a demon
