It's a family anime about family and friendship bonds.
No need to overthink it. The crux of it all is that is that despite Umaru's and Taihei's different lifestyles wears at eachother, they ultimately care and even rely on eachother. Boosting eachother. While they have unlikely friends who end up complementing eachother.

And that's about it. Not everything is deep, nor needs to be. It's a well produced, well presented, light-hearted production about bonds. In a familiar setting.
