The whole premise of this manga isn't just Jun realizing that Tomo is a girl. It's about everyone coming to that conclusion including Tomo herself.

That's why we have this arc about her learning how to do girly stuff, or the two underclassmen who have a crush on her, or the stuff about her karate sempai. Everyone is working out how to treat a super tough tomboy.

A while ago Tomo told misuzu she wanted a closer girly relationship with her. Misuzu noticed cotton snuggling next to tomo, so misuzu sat next to tomo and touched her in an attempt to emulate cotton's girly tendencies. Obviously a finger touch isn't the same type of "touching" as cotton is doing but she's too proud to go full girly and it comes off as strange.

I can totally understand why you would want the story to get back on premise, but calling this yuri bait is classic del/u/sion. At every step of the way the manga has made it clear that all this affection stuff is perfectly innocent. It may very well be that the intent is to titillate with the implied possibility that something sexual could develop, but in terms of the character motivations and the canon of the story, there has not been a single hint of actual homosexuality. You might be valid in referring to girls being affectionate as homoeroticism in terms of its intended effect, but you must understand that that is completely separate from any actual homosexual tendencies in the characters.

I'm sure there's no need to get into it in full because the arguments for and against are all pretty obvious, but just to summarize: It's totally apparent that the main female characters have already been paired up with three male characters. Does that in itself mean they'll end up with those characters? Obviously not, but it speaks to the intended direction. Additionally, Misuzu's actions have always been given a completely rational explanation, and there have been no hints that she has romantic feelings for Tomo. As of now the only real pro-yuri arguments is that Misuzu could fit the unrequited childhood friend archetype, and her joy in prodding Jun could obviously be based in spite. But all that is thin by itself.

An argument could be made that yuri is happening between the characters depending on your definition of "yuri," but it's categorically not "baiting." The reader obviously is not supposed to think that a romantic relationship could develop between any of the characters.

You were probably making an off-the-cuff remark, obviously it was more about your frustration than whether or not this is actually "yuri bait," and if that's the case then I apologize. The whole yuri bait meme just gets me hot under the collar.

Literally everything about every panel in this chapter is perfect and super compelling. I enjoy almost chapter of Tomo-chan, but this is one of my favorites in a while, it just this flawless little package with tons of great stuff going on, including some really nice little details.

I'll admit that that Carol does a lot of smug eye-making in Misuzu's direction, and they would probably have the most chemistry between each other, but it's still obviously never been presented with the intent that the reader should think that they might get together.

If I had my logical goggles, it would be that Misuzu feels threatened at someone else getting cozy with her only friend so fast, whom she also keeps at arms length at best.

It's an inevitability. Misuzu's whole character arc is that she's really cold and isolated, but it's clear that she wants to change that about herself. See all this physical affection stuff, and accepting Carol as a friend. Eventually Misuzu is going to relent to other guy's advances because he's so different from her and she's realizing that she wants a little warmth.

She sees Carol with Tomo and gets jealous because it seems like Carol is closer with Tomo than she is, and they've been friends forever. She sees it and realizes she wants something similar. She's going to see Tomo with Jun and realize that she wants somebody for herself.

It's just the logical progression for her character, and this thing is too well-written for it not to be followed through on.

I actually think there's a good chance Misuzu will be the first one to get together with her intended. If you look at it logically, Carol and sempai are super far from anything happening, they're probably the furthest away of the three couples. That dude is completely clueless. Jun is obviously not clueless, but the two of them not getting together is the premise of the entire manga. In theory they should be the last to pair off.

MisuzuXdude has the fewest roadblocks. He's already into it, she KNOWS he's into it, she's not into it now, but she's already trying to change, do new things, accept a broader range of people. He's shown himself to be confident and tenacious, he'll keep after it. Sempai is probably gonna meet up with Jun for lunch and just sorta mention in passing that he's going out with Misuzu, and it'll be this big surprise, and it'll make Jun realize that his window is closing.

The problem about that dude is that He is an uninteresting annoying generic male protag's best friend who have 0 compatibility with Misuzu current personality. You can't remember his name even when you are actively trying to promote him.

Maybe I have some bias because I fucking hate his guts. But he never really had any meaningful interaction with any other character except to build up other character. It's pretty clear(to me) that the Author never want him to have any real impact. The only thing he has going for him is pic related. Prove me wrong.

Not liking him is certainly fair. I will say that even if they do end up getting together, I don't see it being a huge plot point. It's all about foiling the main pairing. Misuzu sees Tomo and Carol wanting to get with their dudes but they can't, and it makes her appreciate what's right in front of her. Then Jun sees Sempai getting with Misuzu (probably the only girl he's dated before) and he realizes that he needs to shit or get off the pot before it's too late. It's got a symmetry to it. It really writes itself. That's how I would write it, anyway.

And again, the best way to reveal it would be as a total surprise. Misuzu doesn't tell anybody because she's still very private and insular, but sempai lets it slip to Jun that they've gone on a couple dates. And this is the first that we, the readers, hear about it, so it's sort of this dramatic reveal that's really important for Jun's character.

Anyway, it's certainly possible that they won't get together, but I do think she has to warm up to a dude by the end of this thing. Otherwise her character arc just won't be completed. She has the beginnings of a great arc going on, and I'll just be really disappointed if it's not carried through in a satisfying way. Maybe there's some other way than having a man in her life, but this is sort of a romantic comedy. Maybe she'll meet some new dude who is more meeting with your approval.
