Did the world just kind of collectively forget about Lucky Star?
Well I didn't.
There is actually enough manga material for it for a 2 cour S2 these days, but >>137372149
Then again her career hasn't actually died despite that, but there is the question if KyoAni would ever want to go near her again for the stigma.
Yes, because it's always going to be known as "That anime that's similar to Azumanga Daioh."
People were comparing Azumanga to LS when it came out mostly because there wasn't much else around to compare it to that was actually similarly popular.
Afterwards though K-on was a hit too and by that point it became seen as a new viable type of show instead of a quirk for one-off comparisons.
Yeah, that was also 07, but how well did its first season sell? I recall it generally did about 10k every season after that but don't recall its original sales.
Also we need more Hidamari stat. Let's hope Shinbo is too greedy to not cast a new Yoshinoya; he'll find a way.
Or rather rephrasing, "let's hope shinbo is too greedy that he will cast a new yoshinoya" because that's the major roadblock (in addition to Ume releasing about once a century).
Still though we have some unused Sae/Hiro material left too; they could cobble a S5 together within a few more releases and go back to the anachronous order of the early seasons.
still holds a spcicailk plcea in my heart
