Why is KyoAni the best animation studio in existence?
So what is Kyoani's greatest masterpiece and why is it yuriphonium?
More ADOLESCENCE is always nice.
It isn't. 90% of their productions have been done better by other people and/or they're derivative garbage that looks pretty but has terrible writing
Gonzo did it better
Steins; Gate did it better
Noein did it better
Decent but not as good as Nichijou
The only series where KyoAni ever showed evidence of improvement
AnoHana did it better
Working!! did it better
Haikyuu!! did it better
Bakemonogatari did it better
>Amagi Brilliant Park
Your Lie in April did it better
Irredeemable garbage, possibly the worst of the current season, which is saying a lot since there is a LOT of trash airing right now
As for their recent animes, they're the hippest studio imo. Plus their overall animation quality is just unique and beautiful. Characters, backgrounds, bgm.
They took something simple and sweet (Tamako Love Story) and animated it so well. Personally it was a masterpiece.
They've mastered their character style imo. Ever since hyouka maybe?
They're one of the few studios, if not, the only one who utilizes DOF, bokeh etc, and cinema filters. I'm sure there's much more unique methods they have but these are the ones I've noticed in their newer (post 2013) amines Tamako Love Story, Hibike, Phantom World.
That's why I can't wait for Koe no Katachi.
They don't have slaves as animators.
Inclusive work enviroment, lots of women working with them.
They adapt their own works.
High production values.
Family oriented anime.
Aside from the good animation Kyoani's series have interesting camera work and overall, a slight artistic direction that separates the studio from the others. It's the closest studio by essence of Ghibli.
>anime is not film, so why the fuck would anyone use camera techniques?
I don't even like KyoAni pandering moe garbage, but anime is still a visual storytelling medium. Decent cinematography is a pretty good thing to have in an aneem.
Anyone who is willing to give us more like this
>Cute girl does mundane shit with forcedly elaborate animation
Your standards of what's entertaining are literally on the level of an infant.
Babies love cute girls being silly and moving around exaggeratedly.
Look at the shiny colors and animation! It's so "moe"! Truly the pinnacle of entertainment.
Consistent, When it comes to consistency no one is on Kyoani's level.
Amagi is a solid 7.5 in my book. I don't know why people hate fun.
Phantom, though, depends if you wanna split hairs, but it comes out to about a 5.5 in my book based on my calculation methodologies. So if 5 is average is it SLIGHTLY above it.
The reason being, with KyoAni, it always looks amazing and usually has a great soundtrack. Story, characters, etc. can all be shit, but it will be carried to at least average.
they have the most love for what they do and that love comes before deadlines or money or whatever else. the craft is put first.
they arent afraid of taking risks to grow and become better. they expand themselves every series. they develop new talent, new directors, new seiyuu. they take crazy projects like hyouka or nichijou. because they take joy in the process, and in growing and getting better.
Consistency. There are million talented people in other studios, many lot greater than KyoAni stuff, but NONE of the studios can make a single episode in consistent quality for shit let alone whole season.
This season is great example with Deadhouse having great start with STRIDE and fucking it up. Same with Bones, JC Staff, Sunrise (which can draw but usually doesnt since it cost money).
The only studio that can rival KyoAni in that aspect (i.e. doing their work seriously and not outsorcing everything to north koreans) is PA Works, but even they, as Haruchika this season shows slack, allow QUALITY and bad direction and while able to maintain high consistency, not always do that.
ITT: KyoAni is the only studio that actually seemingly LOVES what it does - with consistent quality, attention to detail, nuanced direction, putting a lot of work into whatever they do. As opposed to other studios that seems to be whores full of make up sucki dick for money with no enthusiasm and only from time to time showing off to sell themselves better.
Godakobo might love their cute girls, but they cant keep the quality consistent, even at their best shows.
Its probably best studio for comedy sols to go (i wish SinergySP was alive) aside Liden Films, but they dont exactly have much resources - and their experiments in action/fujoshi genre all are failures without exeption as Aria last season or this time Luck and Logic.
Even shows like Nozaki, Himouto, GJ-Bu - arent actually great animated (i.e. have great animated moments, but not consistently having poor at other parts). Mikakunin was last show they actually tried to animate well, Himouto for example was poorer.
Yes they can. YY1 was literally perfect. Nozaki-kun was consistently great as well. It's not all about animation and there aren't any standout QUALITY moments. Even then, Doga always animated pretty well. They're consistent even though the last year was more of a consistent amount of shit shows but they'll come back this year with great source material.
As for OP point- best studio in existence though isnt KyoAni - its Sunrise, no contest. Too bad those bandai bastards are jews and do TV anime on tight budget and dont care about quality often.
They CAN however outdo any other studio easily if they want in terms of animation. Even taking direct KyoAni comparison LL movie is better animated - though of their currently running TV shows only one that they do any remotely decent animation for from time to time is Gintama.
And taking best KyoAni Disappearance/Hyouka in terms of looks, still lose to Nerawareta for example
because she's not even the best in here show
second best though
People telling "Kyoani lost its way" recommend watching KnK Movie 2. Its not a great movie since the story still remains meh - but you can seem them go all out in animation in a way you`ll not see in their recent works
>NONE of the studios can make a single episode in consistent quality for shit let alone whole season.
What? Bones regularly puts out very high quality episodes and series. Their last show with any notable QUALITY was Chaika.
He does have a point, though. There is no need to mimic a camera. I'm not saying it's good or bad to do it - it's a tool - but using that as some evidence of them being the best studio is a very debatable personal judgment, at best.
So if I draw a picture, it needs to look the same way a camera would render it? Because that's all I'm disputing, that imitating a camera is necessarily better than otherwise as a general practice.
It's not about imitating a camera's technical qualities. When we talk about cinematography we talk about simple rules like the 180 degree rule, composition, or conceptual tools like frame, light and color, movement, texture, POV, etc. Imitating real life lens quality is just part of overall composition of the frame because it does nothing more than expand/compress the shot and play with perspective.
>Family oriented anime.
Why do you say 'love'? As if there isn't at least a staff who works for other studio out there and he/she didn't love working on their project but unfortunately lacks technical experience.
Not him but you can see why KyoAni shows rarely look sloppy or with QUALITY issues since they are on a payroll. Most other studios pay their animators by frame, meaning they will rush them to get more money.
Please someone post the satiric video.
There are a few blog and twitter posts both in japanese and english that talk about how life is as an animator in japan
>The amount of money you earn from day to day changessince it’s based on how many frame you draw. On Monday I might draw simple corrections on a whole bunch of frame (adding effects that were forgotten by other animators, or “Kii energy” or something like that) resulting in me being able to draw 40 drawings in one day and make over $150 depending on the series. Tuesday-Thursday however, I might have to do the trace-back and inbetweens for a super detailed shot from Tokyo Ghoul (which is really fun)but results in me only drawing 5 frames per day each of those days ($12 a day or so). Each month at Pierrot I earn about $1000.Each month at my previous “slave-labor” studio, I earned about $300 a month.
My guess is that it's mostly Jr animators that get this treatment, since senior ones are usually animator directors or kframers that probably get paid diferent
>Why is KyoAni the best animation studio in existence?
Because they featured British Brompton bikes in the OP of K-ON!
Their character designs are some of the most influential in the past decade.
>character designs are dogshit
Just plain wrong and blind.
I've come up with a stupid theory that KyoAni animates all of it's shows way in advance so they can have their desired level of quality without having to rush. When I say advance, I mean they're done animating it before the show even airs. It's probably wrong though.
>Having a good working schedule
Their shows are riddled with QUALITY and missing frames that later get somewhat fixed in the BDs. What makes you think they actually work on schedule?
Its just hard to believe they have it all sitting in a corner somewhere and roll it out come Wednesday while the entire studio works on something else.
But it IS Kyoani after all. Maybe they do.
