Fantastic PVs and first two episodes, then the animation went to utter shit (minus some climax scenes). And that one had fairly simple character designs.

The problem is because it looks flashy and cool and like AoT people are going to have crazy high expectations and then it's just going to be like Guilty Crown and lack any sense of structure in the story and just be full of annoying asshole goofball characters that betray each other ever few episodes for the sake of twists for no reason and people dying only being revealed to arbitrarily be fine a few episodes later. I just expect the writing for it to be really really REALLY bad particularly given Okouchi's track record of late.

Looking at the entire staffs pedigree and how things typically go when they're involved tells me it's going to suck hard. I mean you've got a director infamous for style over substance, a guy infamous for churning out some of the most horribly written episode to episode clusterfucks that ignore any sense of continuity and a guy known for consistently making the most overly loud bombastic soundtracks that never seem to fit scenes properly making everything even more awkward as the average hammy scene clashes with the most melodramatic music. About the only person I expect to do well here is Haruhiko Mikomoto cause he's just doing some nice looking character designs and then gets to fuck off from the project while Araki, Sawano and Okouchi make a mess of things together. God help them if the show has like 5+ script writers like I'm expecting.

I don't know what to say. You really need new eyes. Say what you will about the PV, but it looks nothing like Tytania misplaced shadows and terrible soft palette. Tytania is what you get when you try to use his style with modern shadowing and subdued color, it clashes. They could've gotten a different guy with a modern style for the job and it wouldn't look so off. Kabaneri embraces it and try to stay close to it.

I don't see what's to greentext, that was one of the most anticipate and popular shows of it's season and year period all around. By comparison this isn't as much but you can tell they're going for that "OMG HYPE" MAL sort of crowd with this. Personally I don't think it'll be all that successful with the mainstream somehow. Writer too bad, at least Titan had a source manga to draw from which while not great is still probably better than Ichiro Okouchi could likely put together. I used to just think it was Hiroyuki Yoshino dragging him down, but Valvrave approved the guy is just astonishingly bad at writing. It's like he's trying to be insulting towards the audience with how stupid he makes everything.
