Japan never had a chance to beat the American's, they knew this themselves, which is why originally they wanted to attack the Soviets, but getting their asses handed to them at Khalkhin Gol saw that plan fall to the wayside. So the idea was to get America to sign a treat with a huge knock out blow, when that failed the plan was to drain American resources and resolve by making each island they took a costly endeavor. Ultimately there is no realistic scenario in WW2 where Japan could have come out on top fighting the US as long as the US doesn't bitch out after Pearl.

In what way? The germans did not invent automatic weapons or jet engines, they were just the first to get them in the field. Their missile technology was the only place where they had a considerable edge on everyone else. In every other area Germany was backwards.
