Was this too deep for /a/?
>>
>>137283296
It's one of my favorites.
>>
Nope since the resolution was canon lesbians and the twilight lore was deconstruction between /a/ and /v/.
>>
>>137283296
I played all of those damn PS2 games.
>>
No, I liked it. It was even one of the few shows I rewatched later, since they hid a bunch of game related hints and symbolical stuff there.
Also, the web novel was updated and there is some epilogue short novel for Kite and BlackRose which is currently getting a translation if anybody cares.
>>
>>137283296
SAO rip-off
>>
>>137283296
The OST is god tier.
>>
>>137283296
This was one of the series that roped me into anime hard.
The emotional depth (at least for the teenager I was when I watched it) gripped my mind in a way that few things do.
Sometimes it's months between finding something that can come close to that level of emotional investment.
I rewatched it just a few months ago, and though it didn't have quite* the impact it did before, it was still better than almost anything from the last few seasons.
>>
>>137283296
not my taste
>>
//sign was probably one of the first non-shounen shows I watched. //G.U. kinda blew. I still haven't seen .hack//Sekai no Mukou ni but it looks interesting enough to watch through.

>>137285141
Same here and loved them. Take a look at the current prices for those if you still have them.
>>
>>137283296
I should really go back and rewatch this. I haven't seen it since it was airing and I missed most of the episodes.
>>
>>137286309
I think I understand how you feel. I remember the show making me feel just a little depressed or shocked when I was expecting a cartoon about a video game. Hard to put into words, but it definitely had a unique emotional kick for me when I first saw it.
>>
HOW COME I MUST KNOW
>>
I'm happy to see all this love, usually people call it boring crap, or something along those lines. It's a very well written show for me.
>>
How did anyone understand this without reading //AI buster is beyond me, but I'm glad we agree it's good.

>>137286065
What's the name of the web novel? First time I hear of this.
>>
>>137286896
It's been so long, what did you need to read AI Buster to understand?

SIGN had such a God Tier OST.
Best song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfwJOyfmXj4
>>
>>137286469
Cried real tears like a little girl.
Thank god I pretty much only watch anime alone.
>>
>>137287074
I honestly don't remember very well either, but everything about that part where they get 'inside' and find AI Harald wasn't explained in the anime, for example.

I was very confused trying to piece together //sign with the games' plot and all the side stories. Took me a while to finally get around to //AI Buster and start forming an image of the .hack universe as a whole.
>>
The entire soundtrack is blocked on YouTube. WTF it's like 16 years old, why would they care to hunt these videos down

Me too.
>>
>>137285118
What lesbians?
>>
>>137287493
The protagonist of /hack SIGN was revealed to be a girl in the last episode. And the other main girl was a handicapped hospitalized girl, they both get adopted at the end of the series. And they're lesbians for each other. Canon, not ambiguous at all.

This happened in 2000.
>>
>>137286309
I felt the same. I watched anime somewhat regularly since 2001 but almost all shows I watched were the typical happy adventures or fanservice shows with cartooney characters back then. They were enjoyable but I was surprised when I saw Sign and realised that there are anime that have a completely different way of telling stories and depicting characters.
>>
>>137287447
Thank you, I'll check it out.
>>
>>137286896
I really like the .hack novels. Most of them have nice characters and dialogues. And I didn't expect the stuff that happened in CELL.

There is so much you can do with a VR setting, I wish there were more series that would use the potential it has instead of focusing on reincarnation and becoming the alpha gamer.
>>
>>137287545
Yeah i think that im just gonna finish .hack//sign out of curiosity and move on to some another franchise...
>>
>>137287835
The novels are the best part of the franchise, I think. Manga, anime and games were good but the novels are all interesting and develop a lot of what is happening behind the scenes and outside the game, that many of the other medium refuse to do at all.

Well there was at least some development happening since Oculus was annouced. There are a bunch of concurring projects so we'll at least get good fullview game-glasses in the near future. But I wish we'd be able to controll PCs by brainwaves too. There are experiments so it isn't that far fetched but it's still nowhere as good to use it for gaming, let alone a commercial use.

Guilty Dragon service is about to end, this is the first installment of the new era of .hack//NU or New World. It's a phone game again though, but it seems like there is more stuff to come.

I really like this new kite clone's design. Also reminder that Emma tricked harald into creating aura for her eco-terrorism group.
>>
>>137290026
I still can't believe this. I can't believe that 15 years later they just release a new story that adds another layer of depth to this.

It's a game that is actually about trapping people in it to gather information to create an AI that is actually about a guy trying to connect with his dead lover that is actually about removing human beings to save the planet. What the fuck.
>>
>>137288323
Unfortunately they dropped the ball when they chose to create the Link franchise part of it, absolutely disgusting.

This. I dislike much of Link but I try to view it as kind of gift for the fans. A game in which we can re-play almost all older .hack related stories and, as you said, we got Flügel and .hack//Bullet.
I also like the kinda related Quantum and David Steinberg RIP

>>

I read those first, before watching //sign, and I do remember thinking that a lot of the information on them was not repeated for the anime but it was clearly referenced. But I can't remember what I was, time to take out the novels again, I guess.
>>
Liminality was better.
>>
Would you let Bear adopt you?
>>
>>137291973
I'd let him do a lot more than that.
In-game only.
>>
>>137291557
This is my favorite track in my entire playlist. I've played it over 9000 times so far and I'm still not bored of it.

SIGN's OST in general is far and beyond Kajiura's best work.

Overall I'm very fond of the show, though having never played the games the ending and general setting leave a lot to be desired.
>>
>>137291873
I agree. It was the only Kajiura OST of the last ~5 years I loved.
>>
>>137291873
It was generic Kajiura.
>>
>>137292090
It still had some really great songs and is better than most OSTs
>>
>>137288098
It was fun watching not only the players but the game devs too getting through shit, cos' the creator was batshit coding the game's core to unwind just for his missing novelist waifu and to be born AI daughteru.

FUCK! It's this why they made it so you keep fighting random phantoms and dragons and Chims and getting cards?
Maybe I should give up and get into New World.

That one .hack fan wants to translate GD so that we at least know the story and what the characters say - he also did some playthrough videos for the visuals.

I can partially understand what happened in it but still sucks.
I was part of Guilty Gaijin guild and had some fun with my guild mates.

Kaijura best years were .Hack,Noir and Mai-HiME

2000-07,this years she's about to make another prime run
>>
>>137293381
I wish I were fluent enough in Japanese, I tried it but gave up because I didn't understand any of the runes.
>>137293740
I think Kajiura needs the right series to work with. Most of her best OSTs are related to series that were kinda dark and/or mysterious, like most of the Bee Train stuff, Petit Cossette etc. and all series were mainly dramas or concentrated on inner-social or psychological problems. SAO for example barely had any of this and her OST didn't work there.
>>
>>137294197
Mai-HiME series soon with or without Kaijura presence

ERASED has ton of potential to give this opportunity.

I wouldn't say it's deep.

It's just not the hugely action-packed fantasy RPG people were expecting going in. It had much more to do with relationships and escapism. It goes pretty deep into these topics and others, but remember that there's /a/ DEEP and actual deep. .hack//SIGN is not hard to understand, although it is a very emotional work.

I think it suffers from the many long still scenes of talking/conversing, but I wasn't put off by it. Also, GOD TIER SOUNDTRACK.
>>
>>137296006
The Soundtrack makes the show awesome in the first place

Soundtrack was good.

Show was overall good, but honestly about 1/4th of all of it, mainly the end, was some of the gayest, dumbest, most boring faggot ass bullshit I've ever seen.

Seriously fucking awful. Ruined a large amount of the show desu. Still, if you can look past it, good enough show.
>>
>>137297534

>>
>>137297534
>gayest, dumbest, most boring faggot ass bullshit I've ever seen.
Half of that is bullshit they just won't explain to you, you have to read the novels, the mangas and play the games. But the other half is gay dumb boring bullshit, I agree.

>>137297534

I'd just be happy if they could make a great mmo.
