Post unrelated pictures, people guess what anime or manga they represent.
This represents the original fate s/n anime. The reason it represents the DEEN F/SN and not another typemoon or fate work is quite obvious but I will explain for some of the slower anons here.
Caliburn aka the sword in the stone was what heralded King Arthur onto the throne. Much like the DEEN FSN heralded many onto the fate series.
Caliburn was thought of as an all powerful sword however eventually it was broken in battle due to the wielder's error. This is a direct comparison with DEEN's mismanagement of the FATE IP. Eventually people's trust in DEEN was shattered as Caliburn was in battle.
If you had posted Excalibur instead it would have been a reference to Fate/Zero. Urobuchi played the part of the Lady of the Lake. Just like how the Lady of the Lake presented Arthur with the penultimate sword, Urobuchi presented the now more concreted fate fan-base with its penultimate fate anime for the time.
The reason it is not the Unlimited Blade Works anime by Ufotable ties in again to the lady of the lake situation. The UBW anime represents the death of the fate series in episodic anime form much like how King Arthur died. Excalibur had to be returned to the lady of the lake when Arthur died however it took three attempts for this to happen.
This is represented by Heaven's feel movies that are going to come out. It is no coincidence that there are rumored to be 3 heaven's feel movies. They each represent the failings of Bedivere to return Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. "Excalibur" will be "returned" however after the three movies are released so to speak. This will in a way signal the death of an age much like how the knights of the round table died out. So to speak of course.

>Allow me to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as stay night, is in fact, Fate/stay night, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Fate plus stay night
