I just finished Toradora. It was great, probably the most enjoyable romance anime I've ever seen, but best girl not winning was fucking criminal and now I feel like shit.
Taiga was a great girl, and in any other anime would have deserved to win, but Minori deserved to be happy too, and Ryuuji had loved her for years. Taiga and Ryuuji should have just stayed as non-blood-related siblings
She deserved a second chance. Everyone else got second chances in the show apart from Minori.
I disagree, I think Taiga and Ryuuji are perfect for each other, but at the same time I can honestly see why you think Minori should have won so I'm not going to argue. What I don't really get is why she gets so much shit on /a/.
>inb4 because she's a cuck
Minori is best girl IMO, but I suppose one reason peeople might dislike her is because she had the chance to be happy with Ryuuji, to easily achieve the kind of perfect relationship that every single character in the show spent the whole time desperately searching for, and then deliberately deprived them both of that happiness out of a misguided, arguably incredibly condescending, sense of obligation to her friend.
Shouldn't that make her more likable though? People who are willing to give up their own happiness for the sake of their friends are very rare, shouldn't that kind of altruism be applauded instead of ridiculed? I really don't get people sometimes.
Again, I think Minori is best girl, but i don't think that's what she was doing.
I think there's a difference between making sacrifices for your friend's sake because you're a good person, and not going after the things you most want because you're scared of hurting people, making yourself totally miserable in the process and watching everyone else be happy while you suffer alone. I don't think that kind of thing is healthy or admirable at all.
>making sacrifices for your friend's sake because you're a good person
>not going after the things you most want because you're scared of hurting people
Doesn't that make you a good person though?
I don't know, I don't think she actually had a choice really, she would have ended up bad either way. If she ended up with Ryuuji, she would have had to see Taiga getting heartbroken and hated herself for it. She instead chose the lesser of the two evils by only making herself suffer. That's how I see it at least.
Yeah, that's how I interpret it at as well. I also think Minori did try hard to find her own happiness in the end, she realised she loved Ryuuji and wanted to be with him, and that Taiga was capable of standing on her own two feet, but she'd hesitated too long in the end. my previous posts were just an attempt to play devils advocate.
I thought she gave up on Ryuuji also for her own sake. She worked her ass off so she would own her achievements to herself only, hooking up with Ryuuji because her friend gave up on him would go against it.
I think she gave up on Ryuuji originally because she thought that's what she was doing, but then she realised that loving someone and accepting someone elses love isn't some form of dependence or reliance on others, but also another form of self-created happiness.
i think the reason it took her so long to be honest with herself and Ryuuji about her feelings is because she was struggling to interpret her identity and independence in the context of romantic love, and initially misinterpreted those things, making herself and others miserable in the process.
Ami is best girl at the end though
Go watch the endings on youtube, the Minori route at least is basically the same as the anime up until the ending.
But yeah, they're good. Minori route ending is canon an as far as I'm concerned.
Minori had tons of chances to tell the MC how she felt. But she hid her interest behind a veil of spontaneous reactions. Another girl came along and eventually told the MC how she felt.
Its actually one of the few realistic love stories out there. As that was the intention. To be a contradiction of all the idealized light novel stories where the least likely girl wins at the end.
>probably the most enjoyable romance anime
Go watch more anime you fucking faggot
What makes Minorin best girl? I usually tend to see best girls as the ones that have the worse life but somehow manages it.
Minorin had problems but it looked like her parents were always there to help her up, Taiga did not have that and even Minorin feels bad for her considering how protective she is of Taiga, I guess she knows a bunch of stuff Taiga had to go through.
Also, what is it that makes Minorin so fucking depressed all the time but she tries hiding it?
Monori is a parody of the typical perfect girl with one flaw you see in most stories (Hallmark movies, Amagami, Love Hina, etc). The difference is, in Toradora, the story doesn't bend over backwards to get her together with the MC. She has to actually act on her own. And she didn't.
I thought Toradora was alright until I got to the start of the final arc where the MC just shits on his mom.
That fucking infuriated me. ESPECIALLY because by the end of the show they make it out like the mom is the one who needs to apologize. MC was such an ungrateful cunt, and so insufferable about how he handled that argument and resolution.
It pissed me off so badly I just hate the show now.
I want to make Yasuko a single mom!
His mom worked to make money, but otherwise was lazy, self centered and a slob. While the story makes her interactions light-hearted and funny, she was still portrayed as a bad parent.
Yasuko had a hard life, the man she loved went away and even after that she was not able to tell Ryuuji what had actually happened, I believe she is a pretty nice person for that, she did not want to make Ryuuji feel anger towards his dad.
It is blogshit but many of things that I saw in the anime are part of my life, I never had a father figure, my mom divorced him after knowing he had cheated on her when I was 3 and now it has just been the two of us.
When they talk about a family of 3 I keep on wondering how nice it would be if I found a Taiga.
Post gifs that personally give you the most feels from this show.
First half of Toradora was fantastic.
Second half the author just completely changed characters entirely to force the dragon and tiger together.
Worth watching for the first half at least.
hard to say, he was showing interest the entire time and he wasn't bad looking so I guess eventually she noticed. Really all it takes is to show interest or effort and the girl will start to like him back. I guess the defining moment was probably the beach trip when they were eating ice cream and talking about ghosts and love and stuff.
Do what I did, OP. Rewatch the anime until the end of episode 19, then play the Minori True route in the VN.
>as far as I'm concerned
If the ending has the word "true" in it, then it's canon!
The routes themselves? Yes, fantastic. They expand upon what the anime didn't and all the characters act in line with what you'd expect.
The actual endings though are utter shit. Major deux ex machinas. The only endings in the VN that played out well are the school council president route and Taiga's routes.
Jesus fuck, i don't remember Toradora having such a terrible artstyle
It was strongly hinted to be the beach trip when they were discussing ghosts but I mean it could have been much earlier. He's tall and he's nice. Really, what else do women want besides that?
The whole Christmas episode fucked me up bad.
Koko is nothing like Minori. Don't ever compare Minori with that bitch.
Not comparing. Just admitting how mutually shitty they both are.
It's another "I just finished Toradora" thread? I feel like I've seen 4 of these this week. Is that sudden influx of newsfags in affect or is it some kind of meme I've been missing for some time?
There are people on /a/ that haven't watched Eva yet and you're complaining that they just watched Toradora? I've been watching anime for 8 years and haven't been in the slightest interested in romance until 2 years ago.
You can be a member of captain autism's club all you want. But she will still be no good.
That's not even figuring in her breaking Taigas Christmas star with baseball autism power.
>hur dur she's autistic
>she broke her friend's star by accident, even though it devasted her, so she's the worst thing in the Universe
You can stop, we already know where this is going and it will only make you look even more retarded.
I'll stop but only due to the fact that Minori was mostly just an annoying Genki girl that had no redeeming traits outside of her encouraging during the race for Taigas dance and at the tail end of the series.
I don't particularly hate Minori. However she is like Koko in that she shut up her emotions 99% of the series just like Koko did causing harm to herself and those she cared about because she didn't have the sense to do otherwise. In that regard she was just as frustrating a character. However unlike Koko she was in a good series so overall a more positive light can be shined upon her as a character.
