Can someone explain how that mediocre pile of crap Frozen beat The Wind Rises in the Oscars 2014?
Frozen is better, you fucking weeb, that's why.
It isn't even exclusive to animoo. Any animation movie that isn't the Disney Yearly Blockbuster™ will get steamrolled, because that category is a fucking disgrace. I don't even blame the kids that enjoy princesses and silly songs anymore.
There was also another interview in regards to animated shorts and how one voter abstained from voting because when they received and opened up the DVD collection screener, all the discs fell out and they decided they couldn't be bothered to watch any of them as a result.
>YFW Madoka almost win a Oscar indication
Oscars is run by a bunch of normies that believe within their hearts animated movies are for children and just pass off the animation awards to whatever was the most popular at the time, which most of the time is not necessarily the best film.
Frozen is an amazing movie with superior production values.
And the people who work at the oscars are idiots that odn't care about animation. Frozen had some "strong independent woman that needs no man" thing so that gave it an oscar.
I think that one is written by a man. Comes off as typical blunt 'daddy has to make business calls' type of deal.
But hey, they seem like an ass parent no matter who they are.
Honestly even putting aside that Frozen won, The Wind Rises isn't that great of a Ghibli film. It was a passion project from Miyazaki stemming from his love of planes and his dad working for Mitsubishi during the war, but as a film it's kinda dull. The documentary behind the movie was much more interesting.
I want to believe these people are just trolling. I want to believe it so bad.
>watching Inside Out was like watching an above average Dreamworks flick
>it will win because Disney pours money into the Academy
>Connected with Big Hero 6 which is a future where San Francisco is a Japanese cultural hub
>Says Japanese movie is an obscure Chinese cartoon
godbless the oscars
>I liked them all about the same, so I decided not to vote.
What a qt.
Yeah by rewriting history. The real Jiro was wracked with guilt postwar for creating a weapon like the Zero and the havoc it wreaked across the Pacific, and spent the next 40 years designing planes that werent fit to use for war
At last this year Inside Out definitely deserves the oscar it will get. The movie is incredible and nothing even comes close.
I ofc did not watch any other animation movie this year, but Inside Out made my cry so it's the best.
His wife didn't have tuberculosis either. Do you really think Miyazaki gave a fuck for the actual history? He did the same thing with Howl - he changed a lot of it to suit his own vision. So what?
My only gripe with the movie was how the premise worked nicely with Riley, but when you apply it to other people, like the movie did at the very end when it showed the personalities of other people, like the emo guy (girl? Only watched it once in the theaters, can't remember), shit gets depressing quickly.
Just try to imagine the movie with a older boy instead of a young girl.
We had a thread while back about Takahata and how he refused to go to the Oscars as a nominee because he was too busy. Well he was kinda right to refuse because it is a bunch of circle jerks that dick ride on Disney and pixars with very shitty tastebuds that should be blown out. I would refuse being in that whole room of hypocrites. All of them are and not even understanding the great style of directing as well as the animation and aesthetics put into Kaguya and the Irish film Song of the Sea. Now they were both very good in showing great characterization and art that had its own old yet very beautiful style. Great soundtracks ( song of the sea would win), depth and rich storytelling. In short, the people who are in the Oscars should all do what the pic related says.
I haven't seen The Wind Rises, but the question to "why does [shit] do better at the box office than [good thing]?" is very simple: lowest common denominator. If you want to make big bucks you find a formula that appeals to everyone, returgitate it until the entire world has grown sick of it (which can take decades if your formula is good), then come up with a new formula to exploit. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.
If you're interested in writing something that's actually good, you'll have to sacrifice profit and perhaps settle for only being good in one corner of the world, like 50s black and white French noveau vague films. Nobody outside of France cares about them, and even in France only a select minority of hipsters and old people remember them.
I didn't watch either of them, but I remember reading people complaining about the Miyazaki movie because it dealt with WWII themes, and that's kind of a sensible theme for americans unless it concentrates on the "hitler was the bad guy and america saved the day" narrative.
Sheep, all of them. They can all go fuck themselves in their hypocrisy. They have no variety and make themselves look smart by having their own positive views using pseudo intelligence and being bribed to only choose Disney. If /a/ were the judges, we would have some sense to pick real quality movies such as Song of the Sea or Kaguya. Pic related.
you can still find negative metacritic reviews saying the movie is "making look the japanese as the good guys", remembering pearl harbour too.
Americans are fucking retarded.
Wind Rises is my favourite Ghibli movie.

They don't hate themselves, their culture and don't import literally millions of immigrants their economy can't handle. Unlike Germany, they haven't attoned for crimes practically nobody who is alive today committed.
