I just finished watching Mobile Suit Gundam for the first time. It was very, very good, and now I understand why Gundam became such a franchise. The series being cancelled after planed for 50 episodes really shows; they basically wrapped up the one year war in the span of the last four episodes, when they even allowed themselves to give Kai Shinden a couple episodes. Also, it feels a bit weird compared to the other gundam (and mecha shows) I've watched because both sides relied heavily on regular war machines and vehicles like planes, compared to the usual "the only war machines are robots and a ship to carry said robots", except for the last battles where everyone was using mobile suits.

The guntank is an ugly piece of shit. It's not the worst MS in that show because the fucking Zakrello exists.

If you like more modern shows watch 00 or Unicorn. I'd recommend Build Fighters, but watching 0079 is highly recommended to get full enjoyment out of it. Every show at some point references 0079, do yourself a favor and just watch the 3 compilation movies totally around 6 hours or so total.

Same dude here, I actually watched all of it because /m/ nonstop wanks over the show. The first half is extremely slow, even then when the plot does pick up it isn't very interesting. Shame too since I hoped gaijin influence on design and story might breath life into the series. Instead it floundered hard with little to no creativity. Best part about the entire series was the moonlight butterfly fight.

Gundam always had homolust m8 (Amuro-Char is a landwhale classic) the only difference is that Wing was a bit more explicit.

Wing Custom is honestly one of the best mecha designs period, Its so well done to where it looks really hi tech without being over designed.

I think 00S2 was great, but I disliked how it became another UC Gundam. Even the Gundams themselves became UC-esque "blocky" compared to the S1 ones, which looked distinctive without stopping being Gundams.

How's Iron Blooded Orphans or whatever the new series is called? For reference, I loved Stardust Memory and 08th MS Team, really liked Unicorn, and I like G Gundam because it's stupid fun. I loved Wing when I first saw it in high school, but I tried watching it again recently and realized it wasn't as great as I remembered, and I fucking hated the SEEDs.

Also, how's 00? I've tried to watch it twice, but I stopped around the 4th or 5th episode because of the front-loaded heavy exposition. Does it get better and is it worth it?
