I just finished watching Lain for the first time yesterday and it blew me away. But what was the point of the ayyy lmaos? Are they responsible for the wired? Did Eiri create the one Lain sees in her doorway?
>>137137005 but why, this is the one of the most artistically interesting anime ive seen recently. i really want to get into the art style but can't when stream of concciousness words are flying at me.
To be fair I'm just here stalling, since I'm watching it right now and not sure whats going to be explained and what's not. So far the show is one step ahead of me at every turn. Not that you're contributing or anything.
>>137137323 Can't wait to start this. I'm nearly 30 but an anime noob (except for the shonen junk they showed on TV in the late 90s/early00s). Finally caved and decided to watch some anime that I would find appealing. Started with Evangelion, it fucked my shit up bad by basically holding up a mirror to myself. It's been nearly 2 months since watching the series and EoE. I now feel I can move on to something else.
Where Eva seemed to become somewhat of a masterpiece by accident, Lain seems like they were trying to do something different from the start. This is just what I get from it, from what little I know. I hope I enjoy this ride.
>>137137323 >not sure whats going to be explained and what's not.
Not a lot, at least not anything that wouldn't have been heavily implied. Lain takes a few watches to really get a grip on everything. There's no "big reveal" in the final episode if that's what you're expecting.
>Not that you're contributing or anything. Sorry for making you angry. :^)
>>137137898 Yes it is. Nobody here knows what goes into creation, and it often feels like the people who like the "good" (i.e. academic) anime have no actual idea as to why they are good. They have the nerd mindset where they go "good characters" or "good story" but have no idea what makes a good script good, what goes into a well directed shot etc. Theyd have no idea how to establish a series of themes, especially ones which can be subtle or obtuse in any way.
>>137138265 the vast majority of people who consume media lack the theoretical fundamentals to critique it in any meaningful way; that doesn't mean that they can't spot good art, just that they are unable to explain to others why they found it good.
>>137137898 I doubt most of us have the willingness or the wealth to finance such a project, and the chances finding enough people with a highly developed skill or talent for animation who would be willing to work only for the pleasure of creation are slim to none.
Also there's the question of whether or not anime created by baka laowai would even BE anime in the first place.
>>137136963 >What was the point of the ayyy lamos To show you the collective unconscious before they drop the bomb that lain is just a construct >Are they responsible for the wired They don't really exist dummy, the wired is the collective unconscious of humanity that has latched on to the global power and information networks of the world because they have become attuned with the resonant frequency of the earth >Did Eiri create the one Lain sees Iunno, maybe.
>>137140764 >lain is just a construct Although Lain's programming was done by a human, the whole point of Protocol 7 being attuned to the Schumann resonances was so that her consciousness could be that of Gaia. In that sense she is really an emanation of Gaia, and unlike Typhon, Gaia's first emanation, she will not be defeated by the other gods and will rule supreme.
>>137142255 Wait, when was it stated that protocol 7 was what tuned the wired to it? I thought it was said that the network grew and grew until it became attuned naturally. Then from there Eiri realized what that meant and further took advantage of it to distribute his programmed consciousness through it, becoming a "god" and displacing the current construct that occupied/was created by people's collective minds (lain) into the real world.
Then again I last watched the series a while ago so I might well be mistaken.
>>137142399 >when was it stated that protocol 7 was what tuned the wired to it? Masami Eiri was fired by Tachibana Labs when they discovered he had embedded the Schumann resonance into Protocol 7. I can't tell you exactly what episode that was revealed in because I last watched it a long time ago too.
Last night I had a strange dream involving Lain, and I need to talk to someone. I was in bed with her, just sleeping. Everything was peaceful and still- all was right with the world. Lain sat up to say something to me, but I can't remember what she said. I mumbled, 'okay' back at her. It was silent for a second, and then I hear, 'TALK TO ME WITH THAT SWEET-ASS VOLUME, BITCH.' I snap my head and she's standing on the bed in full camies with a campaign cover on. I say in my head, 'Oh god, not again.' Then she gets in my face and yells,'SAY SOMETHING!' I woke up and yelled,'Aye sir!' Now I sleep in the hall. Help me /a/non.
