2011 Kurapika blows in comparison to the manga and 1999.
Design wise, his hair style is completely wrong (again), his eyes are the wrong color (again), he has a zombie skin tone, and he's unusually short.
His 2011 VA is also pretty sucky compared to 1999.
I don't think Sawashiro's a terrible voice actor, but she doesn't pull off the character well.
1999 also tweaked his design, but it's not bitched about as often because it's common knowledge that the 1999 staff adored Kurapika. They more than make up for it with their adaptation of the Yorkshin City arc.
Seriously, Nippon animation put a fuckload of love and effort into Kurapika's characterization, and Madhouse messed with it.

I still always recommend the manga first, OP. Manga Kurapika has always been the best version. Togashi is the only one who can draw him right anyway, and you get to see the character as he was originally intended.

I'll take an example from the first episodes, I can't be fucked to re-watch them all again.
Episodes 1999 and 2011:

1999: Kurapika interrupts Leorio, and explains his incentive and back story. He sounds like an earnest, youthful teenager who is MOTIVATED to become a blacklist hunter and avenge his clan.
His voice is higher pitched, but not in a screechy, annoying way. Though it's the perfect type of voice that can effectively get under your skin, especially when giving attitude. He's confident as fuck.
Kaida delivers him perfectly.

2011: Hysterical voice acting. Sawashiro makes him sound like a goddamn sappy, woe is me faggot. Almost as if he were indifferent to the whole situation. There's also irritation in his voice for no reason. 0/10 pls go
