Why do anime studios these days use a filtered photo as a background so often?
>>
>>136420329
>studios
No, just Kyoani
>>
>>136420329
They don't.
>>
>>136420389
Kill yourself.
>>
>>136420329
Because why not?
>>
>>136420329
Kyoani an overrated jew studio, what's new?
>>
>>136420635
You will immediately cease and not continue to access the site if you are under the age of 18.
>>
It's cheaper.
>>
>>136420329
Because they look good?
Not as good as well drawn hand-drawn backgrounds, but how many of the backgrounds in your average tv anime are actually well drawn?
>>
>>136421301
>Not as good as well drawn hand-drawn backgrounds,
And yet Garden of Words is consistently being posted on the subject of scenery porn.
>>
>>136421361
Shinkai is an exception, he's a master at this.

It looks cool.

I like this, I need to try it myself
>>
>>136421481
That's not just a filtered background though. They draw over it.

Why does anime these days have such highly detailed backgrounds? It's weird that someone would spend hours painting a landscape that only shows up for 6 seconds obscured by figures walking around that your eye pays more attention to.
>>
>>136421862
Photoshop exists.
>>
>>136421862
Digital painting is fast as fuck. You can do a photo paintover like those of a background in an hour.
>>
>>136420329
Money. It's far faster just to take a snap and run it through photoshop a few times. Looks better than the average hand-drawn background too.
>>
>>136421900
Prove it.
>>
>>136421481
That actually looks really good, and if it saves them money and time then why the fuck not.
>>
>>136421481
Do you have any more of this translated?
>>
I hope this doesn't actually trigger people. You should champion anything that leaves you with a good product, not sperg over "muh traditional animay practices".
>>
>>136421481
wheres the filter
>>
>>136422373
Low detail blobby, poorly animated characters in front of a hyper realistic, extremely detailed background is clashing and unaesthetic though.
>>
>>136422433
It looks good when effort is taken to make it look good, just like anything else.

>>136422433
It's the opposite though.
>>
>>136420329
Why are you watching bad anime is the question.
>>
>>136421625
That's the usual process fuckhead. Unless there's some huge time constraints or the screen time doesn't justify going all the way. What you guys like to cal filtered bgs in a demeaning way are usually drawn over.
>>
>>136422602
Calm your tits, I'm not even OP.
>>
>>136422598
>All that scribbly shit
l o l
>>
Could anime ever return to '70s standards or have we been conditioned to expect photorealistic levels of detail in the background? Do you prefer a painted over photo or sloppy hand drawn artwork?
>>
>>136420329
Because it's easy, quick, and looks good.
>>
>>136422467
>effort is taken to make it look good
You can put in all the effort in the world to make the static background as jaw-dropingly beautiful as possible (note the word static. Most of the time when this technique is employed the envoronments are completely static), if the characters in the foreground don't blend while in motion you have an effect similar to a low budget TV show where you have stage actors in absolutely awful costumes doing extremely shitty acting in front of a painted background. It completely takes you out of the mindset that there are actual characters in an actual environment, as opposed to just standing in front of a picture on a stage set.

I'm not saying that the whole photo to background thing is bad by nature, but if it's to be used you better damn well put above decent effort into drawing and animating the foreground characters to match.

>>136422537
It's an entirely different matter when it comes to an animated medium.
>>
>>136422646
Anything that fits the style of the show, there's a lot of creative ways to make up for the lack of time or resources with backgrounds.
>>
>>136422646
As long as the characters don't look out of place (simple characters on highly detailed backgrounds or highly detailed characters on simple backgrounds) I won't complain.
>>
>>136422598
Looks nice. This and goblin mugging makes me want to try Grimgar.
>>
It looks good and some shows are meant to be set in a specific location or based on that place
>>
>>136422537
This reminds me, I was disappointed when I learned manga uses photos for backgrounds sometimes too. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than using screen tones for the background,
>>
>>136421626
>>136421693
Most of those only used the locations as inspiration, they're obviously not drawn over or filtered.

No, it's not.
>>
>>136423259
>>136423183
I will say this is interesting.
>>
>>136423261
>the way what you draw moves has absolutely no impact on the visual presentation hurr

Kill yourself retard.
>>
>>136423259

Jesus. Make this low res and it could be a vaporwave album cover.
>>
>>136422983
It's not bad if the mangaka doesn't become too lazy with it.
>>
>>136423499
That's not what I said though.
In this particular instance it's up to you to explain how the movement actually changes anything about the effect that page describes since it actually went as far as to say that it also applies to animation.
So either you dismiss the whole thing or just explain your bullshit argument.
>>
>>136423726
This. It works well in some series like Innocent or Inio Asano's shit when the mangaka knows what they're doing. It becomes obnoxious when they start reusing the same images or just go over-the-top with CG, like I Am a Hero for the former and Inuyashiki with the latter.
>>
>>136423758
Or, I call you the goddamn retard, that you are, tell you to go fuck yourself, and go do something far more productive and/or entertaining than argue with a dumb fuck who can't understand how distracting it is to have poorly, stiff animated and horrendously drawn blob people flailing around in front of a high resolution photograph.

Guess which one I'm going to do.

It works really well. Even if the story isn't that exciting it's still worth trying just for the visuals.

reverse image search you idiots
>>
>>136423183
Why is SHAFT so good?
>>
>>136424050
Look it up, you idiot.
>>
>>136423810
I Am A Hero is actually the one that disappointed me. There are so many large panels or spreads of mostly background. I realized it was being done just to fill out pages, not show off artwork.
>>
>>136423921
Calm down man. It's totally okay if it doesn't suit your own taste but don't pretend your opinions are more than just that.
> how distracting it is to have poorly, stiff animated and horrendously drawn blob people flailing
A simple design doesn't have to be badly animated by the way.
>>
>>
>>136423183
I like them.

>those few books changing position
Why?
>>
>>136424201
Jump off a cliff, you blind nigger.
>>
>>136423183
The hyperrealistic CG backgrounds in Kizu were delicious.

They also did a lot of crazy shit with them which wouldn't be possible with static drawn backgrounds.
>>
>>136420362
Wrong, Pierrot+ did same in Re-kan
>>
>>136421361
NOT TV ANIME
>>
>>136424413
Does it have stuff like this?
>>
>>136421481
I like this. It's better than backgrounds created with imagination only.. But it's kinda shit when it's too 2d without a sense of depth(90% of the shows fails here)
>>
>>136424736
Better

Quite a lot of camera movements with maybe the best 2D integration I have seen at this point.
