Why aren't there more anime MC who are in their 30s? Most of the times the MC is a 14-18 year old
>>
Because adulthood sucks.
>>
Demographically, many anime watchers are 14-18. Hence, 14-18 year old MCs.

This is also why so many anime take place in highschool. You have to relate to your target audience.

If you want to make money, that is.
>>
>>136420300
>If you want to make money, that is.
But 30-somethings have much more money to spend then poor students.
At least stat's how it works for videogames.
>>
>>136420005
Isn't Johnny Joestar in his 20's? Does that count?
>>
>>136420419
Josuke's also half of a 30-something.

Plus, Kenshiro looks to be an adult.
>>
Thinly veiled rec thread.
>>
>>136420493
You mean Jojolion Josuke?

I haven't started part 8 yet, waiting for more to be translated
>>
>>136420005
That would be really fucking weird, man.

This is why when anons hit a certain age they play more games, read more manga, and watch less chinese cartoons.
Many anons with significant power level rehydrate their knowledge by treating animu like a football match, but instead of watching the actual match, they read summaries and analysis in sports papers the day after.
>>
>>136420005
>Why aren't there more anime MC who are in their 30s?
Happened all the time in the 80's and 90's. It's a shame that you were born in the wrong century.

I don't even bother with a series if it takes place in high school or the protagonist is of high school age. I left high school twenty years ago.
>>
>>136420005
Because the target audience is 14-18 year olds?
>>
>>136420005
>Most of the times the MC is a 14-18 year old

Like some anons said, it's because most anime viewers are teens.

But even the adults like teens MCs in Japan: when you reach adulthood you have obligations you don't have as a teen. This is why they like teens MCs: to remember the good old days. at least it was what some anon said months ago
>>
>>136420887
Some one could probably convince you to eat shit because it was a sign of wisdom
>>
>>136421077
>Happened all the time in the 80's and 90's.
It really didn't. Often even when the mc was big and buffy they were actually supposed to be teenagers or young adults at best.
>>
But Gate's MC is just every teenage MC except with a bit of chin hair.
>>
>>136421605
Does the demographic of people in Japan who like Anime really enjoy high school? I know that the western demographic most likely didn't

Because anime is for fucking kids.

No real nigga over 18 fucking watches anime, they read real shit like specific seinen manga who are targeted towards us real mature niggas.
>>
>>136420005
Because I can't relate to someone who has a job and a social life.
>>
because japs think adults are incapable of having adventure
>>
>>136420005
Adulthood is boring. Kids don't have as much responsibility and more free time to mess around

High school is just easier to base a story around, it takes more creativity to think outside regular life scenarios.

>High school is just easier to base a story around
That's just lazy.
Picture Kirito as a 23-year old salaryman that gets trapped in an MMO. The intro episodes are filled with him struggling between the terror of getting fired from his job for not showing up and evicted from his apartment because (since he's stuck in a game) he can't pay rent.
Overlap that with the terror of trying to stay alive in a murder-game.
Overlap that with the desire to stay in the game because it's an escape from the responsibilities that go around your neck like a boat anchor when you become an independent adult.
Overlap that with the worry that his real-world girlfriend will move on, and stack that with his growing attraction to Asuna . Is he cheating? is he giving up hope in returning to the real world by falling for this girl?

He, as a character, gets infinitely more interesting if he were an adult.

Instead we get HUEHUEHUEHUE I DON'T WANT TO FUCK MY COUSIN WHO WANTS TO FUCK ME HUEHUEHUEHUE
>>
>>136420005
Well, as you can by OP's pic, it doesn't change much at all.
They keep being boring wish-fullfilment so why not make him a High Schooler to catch more viewers.
>>
>>136422807
Not him but everything you said can be used on a teenage character too. The problem here is more with the writer.
>>
>>136422807
You see, I agree that that's just lazy but your example was also shit.
>you die irl if you die in the game
>thinking about your job
not how priorities work

>to remember the good old days
This is true, at least for me.
Not saying college life is bad, but my highschool life was much more eventful.
>>
>>136422807
We already do have MMO thing with salaryman.

Of course, he's the type to not give a fuck about the real world anymore other than to find other humans who were sent to the new world , so doesn't count I guess.
>>
>>136423165
Sorry senpai I was just making fun of the fedora
>>
>>136422807
What an extremely shit example.
Everything you posted can also be applied to a highschooler
>>
>>136420392
30-somethings have work and utility bills and rents and food and etc.

Kids have none of those, except school.
>>
>>136420005
Target audience.

Also most of the MCs over 20 are some ''looser otaku'' like your OP pic , ''writer/artist wannabes'' etc. varying number of shit tier professions because authors can't do research to learn anything other than that to use as background for their characters and keep it interesting thus they chose the one background that they can completely disregard.

For MCs who are 14-17 it's also like that but instead of NEET or someone who ''lost at life'' it's just high-school students.

The authors generally lack creativity.
That's why shit like cooking manga and fantasy settings have begun to be popular these days because people had enough.

Samurai fighting tiger with katana. Shit you can tell this is NOT for kids.
>>
>>136420419
>Isn't Johnny Joestar in his 20's? Does that count?
No, because Part 7 has not had an anime adaptation.
>>
It's called seinen, and there's plenty of it. While it means that it's technically the demographic shifting from 10-18 (shounen) to 18-40, that means that the MC will most likely end up somewhere in that age range.

Why would you go out of your way to animate something that is way cheaper to produce using real life actors

>>

yes, but unlike most anime characters, he grew up over the course of the show. Dragon Ball Z starts with him 23, already married and raising a son. It also progresses the characters aging instead of having five seasons of him being 15, then five seasons him being 25.
>>
Where do people get the idea from that most anime watchers are 14-18?
>>
>>136424210
BLIND samurai fighting tiger with katana.

That page is a visual metaphor, the tiger is a guy.

For a lot of people, they start watching in Highschool and once they hit college, they have less time for it and eventually drop it to do more productive things like work or go to parties. Most of us haven't had a social life though, and don't have the call of other duties besides the occasional part time job
>>
>>136424580
Man, I wish the Japanese weren't such godawful stage actors.
>>
>>136424900
I've got bad news for you:
We are not relevant for what Japanese anime makers put in their anime.
It's obviously the Japanese audience.
>>
Read Manga OP. there is a lot more diversity among MCs in manga then there is in anime.
>>
>>136424660
>looser otaku
Maybe he just meant "otaku in a wider sense"?
>>
>>136424660
I think he meant before the attack, since before them he was just a looser otaku whoi just used the JDSF as a means to fund his hobbys. Most mcs start out as looser otaku and then have a harem of girls lusting after them. It makes it easier for the audience to relate and self insert.
>>
>>136425411
He already had the special forces training and ranger badge when the story began though. Also, an ex-wife
