Are Hanamaru, Mahoromatic and Dantalian worth watching?
Hanamaru if you want healing. Dantalian YES!
Everybody with a bit of talent left the board to go with Anno to Khara, with Imaishi to Trigger, or the fags that went to make the idolmaster. After that the studio closed down and the few people left were reallocated to a smaller new one.
There were a few talented guys left. The real blow was that they were fucking Gainax, with a reputation like KyoAni and SHAFT combined. They couldn't help but disappoint everybody.
The only sensible thing would have been to dissolve the studio and start anew (but that would have probably cost them the IPs that Gainax was still getting money for).
I'm not a director, I can't give you a sensible answer as to what would make a GOOD adaptation.
But certain things work in one medium but not the other. Removing things that work in written form but not in animation is a necessity. But on the other hand adding things that work in animation is a good choice.
Change is not bad. The trick is to change things and still maintain the spirit of the original.
I prefer when they take all the original elements and fit them into an storyboard that does proper storytelling, instead of copypasting manga panels and adding a few in-betweens before and after like >>136293770 and call it anime.
I don't get your complaint about the Medaka Box anime then. They added tons of little touches and new scenes, reordered the pre-Unzen stuff to include Kikaijima in more of the story, animated two anime-only episodes written by Nisio, and on and on. The music was solid and the animation, while not anything amazing, stayed consistent during fight scenes. The voice cast was pretty damn good too, even Toyosaki pulled off a performance that went counter to characters she usually did.
I didn't complain about the Medaka Box anime. I was speaking in general.
Since I dropped MB I don't think I can give you any valuable criticism. But to me it felt life-less and dull.
They ran out of classics to copy
Mahoromatic is a trashy ecchi harem with a high school setting. I only watched it because I saw that one awesome fight scene in a MAD. It's sort of charming for how blatantly otaku oriented it is anyway.
The only thing about Diebuster that's better than Gunbuster is the OP.
Funnest threads for speculation since Code Geass. Easily my most favorite series to read alongside /a/.
Animation and color palette are both strengths of KyoAni. Can't argue that.
Eva, sure, but I'd say KyoAni's best shows beat Gainax's other best shows. Unless you're against slice of life for whatever reason.
Yet the EDs are on the same level.
