1) The LN is unlikely to continue at a reasonable rate because Tanigaru kinda lost interest and doesn't really know where to take it (this really shows in the last volume).
2) Kyoani won't be making S3 any time soon because of production/licensors issues (I think Kadokawa holds the biggest share). Kyoani makes much more profit by animating smaller licenses than Haruhi. We might end up with S3 animated by another studio though.

Look, I bet there's very few people here that like anime+movie more than I do, so this is coming from someone who'd love to see more Haruhi animated. But not like this.

First of all, No, we can't do anything, realistically, to make it happen. It's out of our hands. Just deal with it. You are nowhere near the first person to think of this or try this, and to imply that kyoani doesn't already know how much it is wished for is completely ridiculous.

Second, your train of thought comes from the wrong place to begin with. You want to, by sheer force of numbers and financial pressure, MAKE it happen, and that is just....... dumb. It show such a distorted view of reality and that you clearly are speaking from a blind desire to just have MOAR HARUHI, disregarding the quality that made you like it in the first place.
Look, the guy dosn't want to make more Haruhi. He's burnt out of it or just uninspired. Who knows? The point is, if he's not doing it it's because he feels like he can't. He's not trying to fuck with anybody, that's just you guys trying to make yourselves important, and he's not refraining from doing it because he's lazy either. A lazy person wouldn't even have created Haruhi. It sucks that this is what happened but at least we got what we got.

And these proposals of a different writer taking on the series and/or studio.... just stop that. That is the worst possible outcome. If someone could have written Haruhi, they'd have written Haruhi before Tanigawara.

But i'll use Pacific Rim as an example of a movie that might or not have a sequel in the next few years. Despite there being a lot of fans and it being pretty well-received. Production costed 190 million, while it made 400 million internationally. However it's mostly from China, and excluding the cost of marketing.

On the other hand, there are 4 Michael Bay Transhitters movies, another one is confirmed, and each one more degrading than the last. Transhitters 4 made generated the most in the global box office in 2014. So obviously there will be a sequel, another trilogy in the Fast and shitter franchise, 2 stars movies and 6 superhero movies a year. Because they fucking make money.

I can't imagine any factor weighing more than profits. But i hear Haruhi was extremely successful too, so if there is no S3 (most anime don't get a second season), then it's definitely something else, as many anons already pointed out like the author.

I don't think anyone has actually pointed out the real reason there is no S3 yet ITT.

Kadokawa only creates anime adaptations to promote their works. Because the writer has significantly slowed down in the rate of novels being written recently, they have no material to promote, so there will be no anime until Tanigawa picks up the pace. He has not expressly said that he has quit or that he is on hiatus; and I always see that "people can run out of words" screencap from the first novel's afterword, trying to use that as evidence that he has stopped because he cannot continue. However, he has also said that he already has the whole story mapped out, but it takes time to write the novels.

I think we will eventually get a S3. /a/ didn't believe in S2 either back then. But, if we do, it won't be for a long time.
