In the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II, the army and navy of Imperial Japan not only followed the standard practice of having a bayonet for every rifle, they were also one of the last hold-outs in the use of sword bayonets instead of switching to the knife type (perhaps because their involvement in World War I didn't include trench warfare).
Moreover, they took the unusual but not unique step of putting bayonets on their submachine guns, and the entirely unique step of putting bayonets on light machine guns.
Needless to say, this could hardly be less practical (an LMG is way too heavy and bulky to effectively thrust like a spear), but it reflected the general obsession with blades and melee combat that resulted from the Japanese ultra-nationalists' attempt to revive samurai culture.
A real samurai would one hand something easy to reload like a pistol and use a katana in his offhand.
Vicious is a real Samurai
>Like the Yamato class battleships.
There was more than one?
I know they're trying to show off all this Japanese equipment while using "muh low-budget" as an flimsy excuse, but you'd think they'd ditch a tactic that got them massacred in the last world war.
>Fuccboi statists in the previous thread not Standing with Rand "The Man with the Plan to bring Freedom to the Land" Paul
What kind of STDs do special zone beast whores have?
don't really care, if their ancestors didn't catch shit after raping all the women they could find in china and Korea im sure the grandsons can survive a night with a beast whore
Oh right. Thanks for the correction.
That and Bayonets on long rifles are a great tactical option.
The Brits have been doing Bayone charges way before and way after the Japs. They seem to have a good one in every war. In the Falklands their Marines skewered many Argies and in Iraq a platoon that got ambushed by the Taliban and then ran out of ammo decided to bayonet rush the ragheads, resulting in 35 Talibanies shanked and no dead or wounded brits.
Dont underestimate a good Bayonet charge.
>The SDF can clearly bomb the Capitol into rubble
>Not all of the senators approve of making peace
Also, only 3 prisoners?
Saw a bit more action than Yamato.
>always having your bayonet fixed
Just marginally decrease my accuracy up senpai
You mean don't underestimate fucking spears.
>The spear has been used throughout human history both as a hunting and fishing tool and as a weapon. Along with the axe, knife, and club it is one of the earliest and most important tools developed by early humans. As a weapon, it may be wielded with either one hand or two. It was used in virtually every conflict up until the modern era, where even then it continues on in the form of the bayonet, and is probably the most commonly used weapon in history.
>The SDF can clearly bomb the Capitol into rubble
Thing is, if they were in the SDF's position they would actually have bombed the capital into rubble. They can't comprehend why the Japanese haven't done it, and the conclusion that some of them came to is that Japan is bluffing and is hiding some secret weakness that would prevent them from actually destroying the empire.
The halberd is a polearm, like the spear.
Polearms are great too (if the enemy has X weapon, and you have X weapon on a stick, you generally win because you hit them before they hit you), but the spear is king, literally.
Qiang (simplified Chinese: 枪; traditional Chinese: 槍; pinyin: qiāng) is the Chinese term for spear. Due to its relative ease of manufacture, the spear in many variations was ubiquitous on the pre-modern Chinese battlefield. It is known as one of the four major weapons, along with the Gun (staff), Dao (sabre), and the Jian (sword), called in this group "The King of Weapons".
>In the Falklands their Marines skewered many Argies
im pretty sure that the corrupt government of argentina stealing the money for ammo and food for their soldiers had more to do with the Marines owning then rather than the effectiveness of a bayonet charge.
> Argentina white
Damn this episode was so good. Itami just knocked like 20 niggas out cause they be hiding Japanese females as slaves. Then my girl Shino went ham on the fuccboi prince. That shit was hot as fuck. I literally paused the episode right there because I needed to fap to her right away. I went to sankaku and searched kuribayashi_shino but there was only like 30 pictures and none of them were good. So then I went to danbooru but same shit. I then tried exhentai but only shitty rori and tsuka memes. So I said fuck it and just fapped to her from the episode. Pict related. I want her to knock me out.
Magic Japanese titty armor
That and the British Marines are hard as fucking balls and would have styled all over the Argies even if they had been a bit better equipped.
Either way, the tactical advantages of a well times Bayonet charge cant be understated. There is a terrible psychological effect on the enemy when a company of huge, fearless marines call come charging at you with their bayonets fixed whilst screaming at the top of their lungs.
Never underestimate a good zerg rush
That thing has a bolt catch or they were aping FPS animations?
>We could not stand to fight a war against Japan
probably the only time someone will say that
Their SDF is extremely formidable for what it is, especially in the region. Its also safe to argue that they have the best Navy in the region.
That and they have America as a guranteed backup, and by extention the other allied nations (UK, France, Canada, Ausfailia).
No country in the Pacific could afford to start a war with Japan.
i rather say that is useful at best, i rather have a bayonet than extra ammo but a bayonet charge will only work if any of this thing happens:
- the enemy is low on ammo so they cant own you from far away
- there is a thick smoke screen so you can get close enough to own them
-the enemy just got hit by mortars, HE or an air strike so they are still shaking of the whole thing out of them.
them you can try to charge the enemy if you are better in hand to hand combat or your people is just physically stronger than the enemy (Americans vs the Vietcong)
If it was just a one on one war with no other politics, there are a lot of countries that couldn't stand a war against Japan.
Despite losing badly and not having an "official" army, Japan is still one of the strongest countries. Hell, Japan has the third highest GDP, and they're a tiny island nation.
Except the latest bayonet charges in history have been without any of these things against forces with a local numerical superiority and no shortage of ammo.
I agree that it should be treated as something near a last resort but again dont underestimate the crazy psychological effect of a bayonet charge.
>focusing on what they're actually good at
>Not starting World Wars
>and the conclusion that some of them came to is that Japan is bluffing and is hiding some secret weakness that would prevent them from actually destroying the empire.
They are not exactly wrong.
While Not-Rome basically can do whatever they want to do as the hegemonic power in the region Japan is hamstrung by its own public image as a "pacifist" nation (the quotation marks are there for a reason) and economic interests other powers have in what lies beyond the gate.
The only way Japan wins this scenario is by having the Empire voluntarily and diplomatically join into their fold as opposed to just go in guns blazing and "annexing" it as their territory which is a suicidal move given how China, Russia and the US would react.
Pina is aware that there are other countries beyond the gate but she has no real sense of the power balance going on outside and even if she knew she might consider that making a deal with Japan that guarantees her Kngdom's independence is favourable to having other powers get interested in the world beyond the gate.
You assume wrong. They had no support, were isolated and cut off from help and had essentially ran out of ammo.
They just wanted to get stabhappy
The trick is to mount the LMG on an even bigger battleship.
Every military has a horrific bureaucracy culture, just listen to any American serviceman complain about it, they all seem to have plenty of stories about the apparent ludicrous organisational incompetence of their military.
It doesn't really matter what the other countries think or do, the special region is literally inside Japan.
The special region and the other countries cannot interact without Japan as a middleman.
They may not be wrong in that sense (having real superpowers breathing down your neck is quite a weakness) but in the end it's not a weakness that is in any way helpful to them, because exploiting that weakness would simply bring the US Army through the Gate. Perhaps if Japan was more open about that they could get more concessions.
What America has now is bad, what the gooks and japs have now is palpably worse.
The complaints about our east asian allies come from people in our own military, it's not like they aren't intimately aware of our own bullshit.
They aren't good at finishing wars, that's for sure.
dude the support of lmgs come from themselves, if you have 100 soldiers at least 10 with lmgs so you can use those guys to shot suppression fire on the enemy while the other 90 charge the living fuck of the enemy, nigga that shit is basic
>What the FUCK is going on in Germany
Patch 19.45 nerfed them even harder than patch 19.19 (though admittedly the mods decided to undo that later leading again to inbalances in the Europe server).
They also tried splitting the guild into two separate entities but that has been considered too much and retored as of Patch 19.90 but they haven't been the same ever since.
This shit is practically self-parody.
I already knew that bayonets ought to be considered a valid lethal weapon but this shrieking faggot is NOT selling it well.
no but i can tell you some cases:
it was midnight and the army was moving from town A to town B in chase of the terrorist, they never expected that the terrorist were waiting for them in the middle of the road, they planted TNT and when the caravan was crossing the road they blew the TNT killing the soldiers in the middle of the caravan and stunning the rest of them, then the terrorist charged at them killing all the soldiers and taking their weapons without 1 shot being fired.
>It doesn't really matter what the other countries think or do, the special region is literally inside Japan.
>The special region and the other countries cannot interact without Japan as a middleman.
They could force themselves in though.
They have basically allowed Japan to operate like that because Japan is also the one that takes the risk by going inside but if they were to just massacre Not-Rome and occupy it you'd see calls from the UN Security Council for other powers to send in a police force to stop the genocide done by the Japanese (which would be considered disproportionate retaliation).
I never said that it was a weakness that Not-Rome can exploit, just that there assessment is correct, even if they might be wrong/not know about why said assessment is correct and how to take advantadge of it.
You are quite right that having an actual Superpower as their foe would have resulted in a much more grim scenario for them (Russia, China and the US would not have tolerated the senseless killing of their citizens to go unpunished without poper retribution to the goverment responsible for that massacre).
There are other places with terrorists anon, not just Europe. Luckily all we get are bus inspections whenever we go out of town since some of them live here too. Government don't give a shit either.
tell me where do you live, i live in Peru and we got really fucked up from 1985 to 2000.
what war histories do you know
what was the closest experience you had with the enemy/terrorist/rebels.
If that motherfucker was running towards you with a bayonet fixed shrieking like that I gurantee you that you would shit yourself.
In a training scenario these things always look forced and cringy but the psychological effect it has in battle is huge
Don't anon. Shits been getting retarded. The millennials are fucking it up.
As a German who doesn't live in Germany anymore (and is thankful for the lack of GEMA fuckery and other shit over there) how bad is it right now?
Not telling you shit but one thing.
>what was the closest experience you had with the enemy/terrorist/rebels.
One time I was traveling by bus in a 12 hour trip. Driver got word that this one group's leader had his birthday so what they did was overturn several trucks, vans, gun down a police unit, and kidnap the girls of the bus ahead of us. The military got alerted while we got a police escort to our destination full speed. Everyone was silent on the trip. Needless to say it didn't make national news.
president hilary finds about slave trade and the forced sexwork of the women in the empire, the feminists on USA find that an American girl was beated and raped by the prince of that Empire.
the empire would be destroyed on 1 night
it's fucking awful, THEY are fucking everywhere and the cultural difference is just too big
also as a woman it's even worse, the men treat you like shit and/or a sexual object
>lest just say that japan finds OIL on not-rome, how would react China-Usa-Russia
Depends on how much and how viable it is to actually have it make its way to the world market but given that you want the scenario where Japan gets in trouble, let's assume they suddenly have twice Saudi Arabia's reserves.
My guess is that (unless Japan really fucks up) the US might actually reach a deal with Japan (being technically allies) to give them the same deal the Saudis get, which is basically as long as American companies can extract the oil and commercially profit from it they'll make sure no other superpower will even dare to touch Japan but conversely Japan may have to bite the bullet and allow more "allied US troops" (alternatively "diplomats" that are actually CIA operatives) in Japan proper again.
You know, just in case a new goverment has the bright idea to put such a deal in jeopardy.
If they don't do that, all three Superpowers would try to find some technically/dirt to pressure Japan into allowing them through the gate (or just flatout force it under UN control through some resolution to grab it away) or study ways to create a gate of their own in the meantime.
So we have basically invited over Sharia law.
I heard the Mayor of Cologne and the local police basically said that the women were asking for it.
So... how long until H&M starts selling Burqa's?
> live in what it used the be the limit side of the capital, one night we woke up due to gun shots they all come from the mountains, next day we found out that it was the terrorist and they took control of the zone, the police was entrenched on the police station and shoot everyone that got too close, 2 days latter a truck got in and drive to the police station shooting, everyone thought that it was the army coming to save us, they just rescue the entrenched police and then drive away shooting.
>everyone was like wtf, then we waited for the terrorist to start making popular trials or the "people trials" where anyone can accuse anyone of being a capitalist pig, they didn't do shit thought,
>turns out that they didn't have reinforcements so they weren't sure of doing anything that could enrage us
>a week latter the army and the police retook the control of the zone.
>didn't even make to the local news worse shit was happening
and thank god i live in the capital everywhere else was much much worse
depends on when was the last war your country saw, Europe and japan is getting close to to 100 years since the last war, USA? i dont know since the alamo? Canada? i dont know when was last time they kicked USA ass and burn down the white house?
I could never find laser discs in this country fucking europe. To make things even worse all anime bootleg VHS were NTSC and I had no RGB cable so I had to watch it all in black&white
>depends on when was the last war your country saw, Europe and japan is getting close to to 100 years since the last war, USA? i dont know since the alamo? Canada? i dont know when was last time they kicked USA ass and burn down the white house?
1815, when the "War of 1812" ended.
British America (nowadays canada) came down from the North and burned down the White House. By the time the US started t omake some gains/win some battles a Peace Treaty had been signed already with a White Peace (no gains for any side) because Britain could not make any decisive victory and preferred to cut their losses.
Though if you want to get pedantic, the Civil War did more harm to the US than any other war before and it was (at the time) fighting a "hostile power" (even if from the US' point of view it was just fighting rebel scum).
That was 150 years ago, compared to Japan's and Germany's 70+ (and even then Germany had to be prepared to fight in WWIII directly due to being the border between both superpower alliances and actually being on both sides of the border).
I don't think I agree with that analysis. ‘Japan’ from Gate didn't have many of the options that ‘Rome’ had. Sending in negotiators? Where to? They knew next to nothing about what was beyond the gate and the possibility of the negotiator just getting killed was very rare. As for the sign, notice that it contains not-Roman text, which they can only have known about from a captured soldier; it's safe to say that ‘Japan’ was assuming the opponent was literate. It also didn't commence the hostilities and when the fight is going on you cannot very well stop shooting, because if you do the enemy just keeps running at you. At no point did not-Rome try to negotiate either. Later when de option of negotiation becomes available, ‘Japan’ does use it.
Then there's the issue that actual Rome was not beyond surprise-sacking cities, slave trade, sending burning pigs into cities, genocide (multiple instances) and all kinds of other horrors.
No, no, anon. You stand on the battle field wearing your black trench coat, you teleport behind the enemy and while stabbing him you whisper "pshh, nothing personal kid" into his ear.
Don't be some loser soldier if you can be a cool kid like >>136224004
>in their culture it's okay for men to treat women however they like, for them it's natural and it's a woman's Job to "ask for it".
And the authorities are doing jackshit to not appear "racists" depite actual crimes being commited by them?
I always thought people talking about "political correctness gone too far" were overreacting but it seems that our country has definitely gone insane in that regard.
I bought "Er ist wieder da" a few years ago and found it mildly funny but truly this kind of situation right now is going to end up with a massive reaction in the other direction if the authorities continue to systemically ignore the very real problems of their people.
Is their even a politically viable alternative that isn't voting right-wing that will deal with this fucked up situation or is Germany really between a rock and a hard place?
sure, a weapon that exploded half of the time killing the user and any unlucky soldier that was close enough and putting a scope on a weapon that recoiled god knows how many times per second
God the japs were idiots
The Soviets fucking creamed us in the late 30s and we have gotten bogged down in China and British India.
Clearly there is nothing wrong with our ground forces no shortages of heavy machine guns, smg, artillery ,tanks etc
Lets bomb america guys
I didn't make the picture nor do I necessarily completely agree with it but I agree with the fact that the anime does a piss-poor job compared to the LN and the manga in illustrating the finer points of how Japan deals with the situation in a way that looks actually logically sound and not just flatout baiting the enemy into a trap for retaliatory purposes (this was shown even more in episode 14 if you compare it to the manga counterpart).
And Rome existed for over a millenia (two if you include byzantium) depending on the timephrame you can find different examples to fit your portrayal (Caesar was certainly not above going into genocide territory to get rid of the "Gaulic menace") but by the time of the imperial period of Gladiator they had it down to a science just for the sake of cost-effectiveness and their reputation preceding them (allowing them to just get what they wanted via negotiations most of the time).
>just watching GATE now since I took a break from animu for a year
>"we can totally go back to Tokugawa isolationism if we take this place over"
I still don't know if I should be amused or annoyed by the complete disregard for the fact that China and the US would outright rape Japan from within and outside if they tried to claim sole control of the other world.
Swords don't have triggers.
>and a magical immortal loli, btw how do we kill an immortal magical loli with modern weaponry
Why kill her? Even if for some she doesn't join the US after seeing their long, black rifles and excellent gear (not a small tiny squad like in the show) and massive army size you can always just restrain her and use her as test subject to study her immortality (and later to test new biological and chemical weapons given that she'll always recover from them).
She's every mad scientists wet dream as far as test subjects are concerned.
Let them isolate themselves, america will just spread their legs again and jam it in again.
>exploded half the time
>Recoiled how many times per second
Literally what? Are you saying they were fired like shoulder rifles? Or are you forgetting that LMGs were usually set up in entrenched positions?
But she looks like a schoolgirl.
There was also a British squad in afgan that got ambushed from all sides and I believe it was the Caption went "fuck this" and ordered all his men to bayonet charge one line of the Taliban top break the ambush and scared the Taliban shitless and they all ran.
because she may be working for an evil god beyond the GATE and she may be problem for us, which gets me to a new question, how do we kill the gods of GATE? lest go full Nietzsche on them
>Shit's going to hit the fan once she ascends a few years down the line. Probably not the best of ideas.
Most politicians in charge will either be out of ofice or even already dead by then.
Look how quickly sanctions destroy countries in today's economic climate. Now imagine Japan, which lacks resources, facing a blockade and sanctions. Japan isn't afraid of being conquered, they're afraid the food, fuel, and raw materials and processed goods will stop flowing.
Even if they started building up the infrastructure needed in the new world to start extracting resources there, it'd take years if not decades (refineries aren't cheap or easy to build) and in the mean time their civilian population would have to make due without. Not politically viable.
>go full Nietzsche on them
Write in an overly-clever and thus easily-misinterpreted way until our sister locks us up in an asylum to die alone and unloved?
Yeah, that'll show 'em.
>Or are you forgetting that LMGs were usually set up in entrenched positions
no im not forgetting but even entrenched and with tripod shit still vibrates a lot which is not good for a scope specially if you want to do a precision shot.
And how exactly would Japan have put their non-existent reputation to use to get what they want? If anything, the soldiers of not-Rome were probably thinking their reputation preceded them and that they could just kick Japan's butt.
I'm not saying Japan couldn't have handled it better, but to say that ‘baiting the enemy into a trap for retaliatory purposes’ is too much.
And don't idolise Imperial Rome too much. Remember the Dacians? And I don't think it counts as civility if you're just trying to be cost-effective.
>when will this stupid plotline end?
In tears and fire.
Dragon fire, to be specific.
TIL the Romans were all Jewish.
I want to take home a beast girl and make a family with her.
What the fuck did you just say about me you little bitch?
Everyone on /a/ is required to be Jewish or Muslim, and then
get along with each other just to piss off the most people possible.
Implying your mom would let you keep a pet in your basement.
Romans nailed a lot of people to a lot of crosses.
That's not a job for the LMG. LMGs hit through volume of fire. The scope is there to assist you finding your initial target, the burst of fire will do the rest.
You want precision, get a rifleman.
As a German that makes me laugh.
What music and art are you thinking of exactly? Sciences sure but cultural values? Absolutely not and it is one of the reasons why this country is currently taking a hard hit. There is no culture left.
>The spear has doggedly held on even into the modern era, with the British stubbornly refusing to give up their old tradition of stabbing people with the ends of their rifles every time the opportunity presents itself.
All the competent ones.
>why only the Imperial Japanese Army used them so much
That wasn't part of your original point about the LMG scopes and knee mortar being shit.
I told you they weren't shit.
Now you're changing the subject.
Fuck off, and accept that you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
The Japanese dollar would plummet overnight and their economy would crash. They are not a nation that could feasibly sustain itself on isolationist policy, nor could they sustain themselves without close political relations with the US.
>What music and art
Music - electronic stuff like Ben Klock.
Art - second-hand from friends who have been to Berlin, they tell me there's a good art scene. I assume they're less full of shit than an anonymous stranger on 4chan.
ok lest see you find a target with the scope, gun it down then you do the same and find other target then another and another, it seems more like a work for an sniper or a rifleman not a LMG so i still think is impractical and that's why only the japs used Scooped LMGS
>Are you calling our Blood God Loli incompetent?
She's very cute, but she's not actually good at fighting other Apostles, nor does she plan well, nor does she exhibit good situational awareness
(e.g. when she gets eaten by the minotaur).
She can't even successfully fuck a mere mortal man who happened to catch her eye. Yes, she's incompetent. She can't achieve her own goals, and mostly she can't be bothered to even have a goal of her own. She's a happy-go-lucky bohemian slut. Nothing against sluts, of course. But she's not even competent at being a slut.
The world must return to its natural state
He doesnt. He was referring to a country in his world's past.
If he knew the extent to which the countries in our would have killed each other over thes last few thousand years he would probably shit himself.
The reason Jews have been given shit for 2000 years is because they offered Jesus on a silver platter to the Romans. They gave a murdering bastard a pardon just so Jesus would be executed.
no, as much as i miss the soviet union going to sleep every night thinking that a nuclear apocalypse could begging at any time would destroy me. at least lets us conquer mars first
No, you twit.
Everyone has been given shit for as long as they exist.
Do you know why Carthagians aren't given shit any more? Because they're all dead. Otherwise, we'd still be giving them shit.
Now stop being such a /pol/troon or get the fuck off my board.
Yeah, the modern German artistic generation is so amazing in their attempt to copy and suck up to their American cultural overlords. I don't see how any of this is defining and or special, let alone good enough to be called a specific German cultural good.
You could have said theater and I would have agreed with you.
This. One of the things I really liked about this show is that it put the current military state of affairs into perspective. We all think it's normal, guns, choppers, tanks and whatnot, it's just the way it is. Seeing what they'd do to the most feared army of the ancient world really made me think.
But there is a problem Japan told the world that the special region was japanese soil, so we got the biggest annexation since WW2 and don't forget the slavery, technically we have a modern state enforcing slavery. that raises a lot of questions and any Asian nation will be very interested to present this in the UN (and after the incident with the OPERATORS) I don't think that the US will veto any resolution so easily
Also, sanctions can fuck up economies, look at Iran and Apartheid South Africa
>let alone good enough to be called a specific German cultural good.
Bach, Beethoven and Mozart were also utilizing European cultural norms, which were not specific to Germany alone.
They did pretty fucking good, mate.
Isolation and tradition are a dead end.
>Would her pubes be mini-snakes?
I just dont know any more
>/k/ommando here, explain to me why this show isn't the most retarded thing I've ever seen?
Because it has soldiers saving cute monster girls from dragons.
(It is in fact pretty stupid, but some of us find it enjoyable.)
>She can't even successfully fuck a mere mortal man who happened to catch her eye.
The other stuff are fair points but come on dude. Anime MCs' density is the stuff of legend. Black holes hear about their density and fuck off
Well, seeing as the rest of her body hair isn't tiny slender snakes, I think it's safe to say it's only on her head?
Unless she is actually covered in tiny, slender snake hairs all over her body.
Is the entire show literally the jap SDF vs fantasy Roman era military? If so where the fuck does the dramatic tension come from, surely every episode would just be SDF turns up, shoots a bunch of peasants, roll credits. I've never seen it so can someone please explain the appeal?
Used to be semi-regular threads on /k/ about this shit
Kind of not the point I was making, but I was wondering about that as well...
Granted, there appears to be only one gate so the Russian operatives angle might not work, but why is not-Rome not creating its own guns? Surely somebody must have leaked the secret of gunpowder by now?
It's especially funny coming from a Japanese story, given that Japan actually adopted guns more or less as soon as they were first introduced to one.
You missed the point. It was something that defined Germany in a way, gave it prestige. Can't say the same for modern art, it's just one of many cultural things that add up and swim along.
It is also not so much about isolationism but about healthy cultural influences as in the one that is natural, not forced and not copied.
>Would her pubes be mini-snakes?
/a/: Always asking the pressing questions
Well there are a few powers in the world that can resist the JSDF, but from what I gathered from anons that read the LNs and such, the later chapters are more about cloak and dagger shit than outright open combat.
Stuff like sabotaging the JSDF's public image and slandering its members and such.
Run out of ammo, charge enemy in a defense position. Enemy so terrible at fighting they suffer 35 dead to people armed with knives while they have machine guns and assault rifles.
See look, bayonets are still useful!
We are already living in that world, but the world has become smaller and more complicated at the same time. Today's Alexanders just cannot go on empire building rampages (at least not for long).
>one that is natural, not forced and not copied.
All art is copied. Great art is well-executed, and maybe has one original thing to it, but usually not even that.
Shakespeare wasn't writing original stories, he just wrote the best versions of a lot of older stories, some of which were ... gasp ... not from the local national cultural tradition.
I'm a little bit surprised that someone speaking English on an American copy of a Japanese server format thinks that cultural identity needs isolationism. You're literally guzzling multicultural semen just to post here.
They sent a scouting party through a secret portal thing before opening the big main gate on Anus Hill.
Apparently there's some kind of a plot attached to this, but the anime will not reach that plot point in this season.
In episode 1 (of season 1) a contingent of the not-Roman army went on a rampage, killed some innocent bystanders, and captured some more and took them with them through the gate.
But I bet Kuri would do it.
/pol/fags are largely illiterate.
By which I mean, they are illiterate and fat.
Fewer than eleven times.
Looks like you didn't read the post or at least only see what you want to see.
I literally told you that it is not about isolationism or entirely original creations. Natural cultural influence is something that doesn't happen in complete isolationism so I'm not sure what your point is.
You do realize that it is 2016 and neither Wagner nor Goethe are alive.
Real samurai sure as hell loved these things, if you took one from back then and handed them an m16 I'm sure they'ed love it.
interesting. i thought hardy created the gate for fun but humans can create them as well?
so you're saying those bastards captured amd killed random people in japan with outfits standing out too much and they didnt react to skyscrapers or cars? what the fuck
looks like she is hitting the mag release ta reload. sounds odd as fuck playing at 1/4 the speed.
should have added another second of silence before she starts shooting again, cant reload that quick
If you're not a /pol/ shitposter, then you have my apologies.
There are such people in this thread, so you may want to take some care in not sounding like one of them.
You read the thread, right?
You realize nobody is discussing the realism of the political situation, right?
You are able to comprehend all the words we're using, right?
Roman steel is high quality, though. Bayonet steel is cheaply produced trash that isn't designed to ever clash with metal. Plus, a rifle isn't exactly the best weapon for stabbing against metal.
Culture isn't defined by the present.
A lot of officers are the pampered children of baby boomers who weren't good enough to get into finance or law and were allowed into military academy despite being entirely inept. So its basically how the British military functioned a hundred years ago.
>Culture isn't defined by the present.
It's usually invisible in the present, therefore it's easy to make the mistake that the present is worse than the past.
This is why dad rock is still a thing.
We won't be able to identify the classics of the present for 50-100 years.
But I'm pretty sure GATE won't be among them.
they are there to lay claim to all the resources before they let other in. The japs cant hold it all to themselves. in the LN they are charging 1 million per person who crosses the GATE if they arnt Japanese, America is happy because they can just front the bill with their fucking endless 1trillion$$ budget they get every year and china is shitting its pants along with the rest of the world.
They don't explain much in the anime.
They are portraying it as a realistic situation by arguing about how other countries will react, treating the show as if it were a possible scenario.
It's just as dumb as discussing how to kill a vampire. How do you kill a vampire? A stake through the heart? Cutting off its head?
Fuck no, you can kill a vampire any way you want, vampires don't fucking exist.
>They are portraying it
They are also portraying monster girls, which are also not real, and yet are so much more interesting than whatever shitty politics you want to discuss.
So let's not discuss your shitty politics.
Let's discuss monster girls.
The brown grin-bitch is mine.
they are trolling the world. its open to negotiations.
In the meeting every one went ape shit except America. Than they planned to lower it but its just to keep every one out till they can claim all the good shit for themselves.
>NIPPON STRONK WE'LL CHARGE ONE MIRRION YENS TO BAKA GAIJNS TO ENTER
This fucking author
I wouldn't have thought a premise like that needed tension, really. Sometimes you just want to watch a modern military force fight a historical one. And that, in itself, is entertaining enough for me, since it doesn't see much play in fiction for precisely the reason you listed. DESU I skip most of the political stuff, since it's where the worst of the Japan wank is and also I don't give much of a shit.
Nigga pls America wouldn't stand for this shit either. Imagine the reaction of the voters that their tax money is for paying for an outrageous ticket (which costs the japs nothing at all really) for every person sent in exploring.
Find me a law that prohibits owning an elf or a cat-girl.
I might do that, though by the cursory glance of it the conceit places the modern forces in a vulnerable position (isolated with no support), so it doesn't seem quite the same. It's not a modern military so much as a small number of modern soldiers.
Well, on the other hand it's not like there's a precedent for this situation, is there? Other countries may be rightly pissed, but I doubt the UN charter has provisions for right of access to extradimensional portals.
No, the laws of a government makes things legal or not, he may thing what he wants but the law is clear
Article four of the universal declaration of human rights and in your nation's constitution, probably
Y'know, it's not actually all that bad. Certainly not as bad as I was led to believe. I had been expecting something along the lines of Mahouka in terms of quality. Though I am watching the most watered down and therefore least crazy format.
Nah, what that does is prompt a 30-year legal battle about the definition of the word "person".
If rich men want to own catgirls, that legal battle won't be won by the anti-slavery side.
The entire premise is that a whole world ripe for the taking falls directly into Japan's hands and Japan's hands alone, completely by sheer chance. Think about that for a second.
Oh and of course the main protagonist is an otaku who somehow gets covered in bitches, there's that too.
It's got some cringe-worthy moments, but yeah, not really worth getting upset about.
Just point and laugh, like the rest of us.
>The Security Council can authorize a Peacekeeping mission
Hm. So interested parties could influence the UN to declare a peacekeeping mission in the post war region of the empire, and Japan would have to give in or face international backlash.
Huh. That's actually a pretty brilliant and devious political manoeuvre, which makes me kind of sad it won't appear in the series.
>we'll never see soldiers of all nations play football with the local elf/cat/thing orphans
>we'll never see the UN function without constant vetoing
>we'll never see an international coalition United in ending slavery, barbarism and genocide in the medieval fantasy world
>we'll never see aid workers bring literacy to a whole medieval world
>we'll never see the Empire officials tried for war crimes
With a friend I have the idea of an RPG campaign based on a UN peacekeeping mission in the special region
>Oh and of course the main protagonist is an otaku who somehow gets covered in bitches, there's that too.
Pft, I've been watching anime for far to long to let that bother me.
>The entire premise is that a whole world ripe for the taking falls directly into Japan's hands and Japan's hands alone, completely by sheer chance.
So? It's a bit of nationalist fantasy on the part of the author (not to mention normal creator provincialism). I can understand that temptation, so really the only issue is that it's Japan specifically, since they were big into manifest destiny 70 years ago (after all the cool kids moved on from it), and thus anything nationalist from there seems more disgusting than from other countries to many people (myself included to be honest).
If I can tolerate Americawank, I can tolerate Japanwank. They're both about as obnoxious.
I didn't find it to be all that obnoxious, maybe because I was ignoring the politics. What there is occasionally makes me role my eyes, but nothing more than that.
And get real, people here single every anime out as obnoxious, it's the cultural norm.
>They said that back in 1860
Turns out the industrialization of the North created significantly more wealth than the rural feudalism of the South.
Who could have foreseen such a thing?
Yeah, of everything in the show, this was the most immersion breaking and ridiculous moment. The gate being in Japan is just premise, the SDF's success isn't that farfetched since they are well trained and equipped, and it follows that other countries would attempt to poach the VIPs.
But the sun will fall and drown the earth before anyone in the US military, much less someone in an elite branch of it, would declare anyone better than them (and they'd probably be right to). If it were just random CIA goons then fine, but this is too much of a stretch.
One way to justify that scene might be:
Yeah, he was in Force Recon ... 30 years ago. Now he's an agent who was basically put out to pasture in a remote and peaceful outpost, and basically does CIA desk-work.
Of course, it's more likely that it's just nationalist wankery.
Haven't a clue, though I suspect they'd maintain they aren't as good as themselves. Most people are like that about their respective country's special forces.
But yeah, I've never even heard of those guys. And what could they possibly be doing to get so good in a country that doesn't go to war?
But that is the point the UN forces won't go in guns blazing (This isn't Korea in the 50's)
Here have a video explaining
Even if he was past his prime, an American soldier (especially one from a prestigious unit) would flat out never declare a foreign soldier his better. It wouldn't happen.
Moreover, these guys fight no less than three teams of foreign commandoes at once and route them completely without taking so much as a scratch? No way, too much.
The SEAL team guys in Jormungand weren't even that good.
>Moreover, these guys fight no less than three teams of foreign commandoes at once and route them completely without taking so much as a scratch? No way, too much.
The home team had prepared terrain, and didn't even know they were fighting 3 different teams until late in the game.
The 3 teams assaulting the location were fighting each other as well as the home team, and the 3 teams were primarily equipped for deniability -- they were using weapons that could be bought in-country, not actually good gear.
It's not entirely stupid. (But yeah, it is somewhat stupid.)
> Russia and America shake hands with each other for a 50/50 split of the resources in the gate. With none for the Japs.
> Japan takes it from both ends
Even better if China gets in on the deal, then Japan get a great power in each hole.
>Russia asks for Hokkaido in return for the help
According to the LN Russia want's to close the gate ASAP
Since Japan doesn't sit on the Security council, The major powers could do whatever they want. Hell Japan could trade away some of its claims for access to being apart of the Security Council.
By all rights the Japanese would have won just because of the four way clusterfuck and Rory being there so it really is just hilarious and unnecessary.
But I mean I understand, it's your home team and nobody ever gives them any credit so you want to tell people how great they really are. People would probably laugh if a Canadian show had them shitting on US special forces even though that seems totally fine to me. The dialogue is just obligatory anime writing and as bad as it seems having the Japanese say how fucking great they are wouldn't work at all.
That's a lot of what Gate is, if it was pure nationalist wanking they would just go in and steamroll everything while chopping the emperor's head off with a katana after the Tokyo police cockblocked the barbarians, but it's actually promoting the JSDF to the Japanese themselves..
Who the hell picks Russia over the US, especially when you have a mutual defense treaty with the US?
And let's be honest Russia is in no shape to stop the US they are going broke occupying Crimea
Probably just joins Itami's harem.
God-Emperor Trump will conquer the world, then the stars!
We have all the posts in these threads mentioning how the JSDF is actually a very modern, well equipped first world military. But you know the thing? A lot of Japanese still don't believe in having -any- military. As a country they're pretty much stuck between right wing crazies and American puppets that want a full military and people who think any military buildup whatsoever is asking to get nuked again. They get absolutely no respect as is within their own country let alone the rest of the world (it doesn't help that their role in fiction is generally to get curbstomped)
So much of what Gate tries to do is present the JSDF as 1) competent and useful, and 2) an asset and an ally to average peaceful people. So you get a mixture of scenes going "hey we can fight good like murikans" and going out of their way to help and befriend the locals. You get the parliament hearing where the kneejerk critics are made to look like retards.
I've not heard of anyone who worked at USFJ have good things to say about their Japanese counterparts. Unmotivated, mediocre training, and red tape to the extreme.
Japan simply does not send it's best and brightest into the JSDF. Having military service on your resume is not as rewarding as it is in the US, and the pay+benefits are worse, so nobody really want's to do it.
I've heard some good things about the Brits, the Canucks, the Aussies, and the French (and their excellent field kitchens and rations). Some USFK people have good things to say about some of their KATUSA's and the Korean Marines.
It's quite likely that their attitudes are indeed due to what you mentioned, but do you think there could be a national element to those opinions? Conservative Americans seem to tend to dislike the Japanese, and are more likely to be in the military.
You could do it as many times as you want, provided you've got more than 10 left at the end. You get rid of 10% of what you have, not 10% of what you originally started with.
Decimating 10 times leaves you with 35% of what you started with.
That's probably true, but only supports the reason the author would want to show pride and have the audience actually take the JSDF seriously so that things might improve.
Remember that bit about how the JASDF pilots don't have to worry about the US forces in the special region? One of the useful parts of the setting is it lets them operate outside a lot of the bureaucracy and red tape.
>One of the useful parts of the setting is it lets them operate outside a lot of the bureaucracy and red tape.
It doesn't really, they're still accountable to their schizophrenic government. They just have to get things done while technically acting as they're supposed to.
>She can't even successfully fuck a mere mortal man who happened to catch her eye
That's the thing, Itami is a divorcee. Divorcees are weary of getting into new relationships, especially within foreign lands that they don't have the intention of staying long term.
>Fuck that sounds even more retarded.
How is that any different from getting an entry visa? You can BUY a visa if you are rich enough. And consider the financial opportunities you get in the new world, a million is pocket change.
Wouldn't do shit. The last thing Russia needs is MORE oil, it's below $30 a gallon right now, and the Russians and the Saudis are getting fucked over.
We're currently in a massive surplus because of US shale production forcing traditional oil producers to overproduce in n attempt to force shale out.
>The entire premise is that a whole world ripe for the taking falls directly into Japan's hands and Japan's hands alone, completely by sheer chance. Think about that for a second.
How is that any different from Stargate?
>Gee I didn't know the other world was indisputably agreed to be Japanese territory by all governments, thus giving Japan the actual right to issue visas for the other world.
"Entry Visa", anon. You need to cross Japanese territory to enter the Gate, this is not in dispute.
>Visas don't cost ONE MIRRION
Visas depend on what you want it for. It is basically a licence to prospect in this case. If you just want to holiday in Japan or see family, Visa to ener Japan is nothing. But if you want visa to go through Japan and find ores and oil? That makes you a business and you need a licence.
Japanese visas don't cost a million dollars. This is like the Chinese and Russian government forcing people to pay $1 million if they want to travel to Mongolia by land and Mongolia was a no-fly zone, if you want to talk in shitty analogies.
>What a load of bullshit oh well MUH GRORIOUS NIPPON
You are just being retarded. The legal fiction is just legal fition. But you still need a Visa to pass through Japanese lands.
>Japanese visas don't cost a million dollars. This is like the Chinese and Russian government forcing people to pay $1 million if they want to travel to Mongolia by land and Mongolia was a no-fly zone, if you want to talk in shitty analogies.
And? It is expensive, but hardly unexpected consider the potential profits. The visa put into consideration how rich the people would get. This is no different from during a Gold Rush, when ship tickets that take you to the gold fields cost many times more than usual.
What of it? if its not illegal, then he has nothing to answer for. There would be no legal basis for a hearing. Would be like Yang having to take shit from politicians of the FPA because "muh democracy".
So much this
>guys talking politics
>give my opinion and say I don't like a policy
>"HOLY SHIT YOU MUST SUPPORT ALL POLICIES BECAUSE MUH COMMANDER IN CHIEF"
Millennials are fascists but don't even know it.
Difference is none of the military powers would stand for that jewing. They would collectively sanction Japan until they let them all in.
But of course the author's not writing a realistic story, but fantasy pandering garbage, so he can write whatever he wants.
>if i was flying to a US territory with a layover in mexico i would't need a fucking visa.
Only because there was agreement in place. There is no rule saying Mexico can't force you to pay a flyover tariff. The only reason they don't is the flights would just be redirected.
You pay to use the Panama Canal for that reason.
