When I pick K-On! I'm considering the series as a whole, so I'm 100% behind it, it's my favourite show. I haven't seen too much from 2011, only good show I'm weighing it against is Madhouse's HxH, which I don't think is all it's made out to be. Hyouka is the best produced TV show I've ever seen and demonstrates a mastery of craft that's veeery hard to come by. Seriously impressive shit.

Can you give an example of good writing and direction in NNB? Certainly not saying it's poorly written but it's a 4koma adaption through and through, doesn't really have a feeling of cohesiveness to it that I like to see from this kinda thing. I'll have to keep an eye for that on a rewatch. It was a good episode for sure, and I could definitely understand the praise the show gets if the whole thing were like that but I don't really think it was. There was no central ordering principle to it, no thematic cohesiveness. Those heartfelt scenes clash with the more voyeuristic shots, or the unrelated gags. More of a montage of jokes and softer scenes reflecting the setting than a unified project.
