I just made this same thread yesterday.

Here's the conclusion I've come to:

I watched this show because it was kyoani, and I was expecting something at least above average. What I didn't account for was the harem genre. I never really watch harem shit (though I did just watch monmusu which was definitely more interesting than Phantom World). But really this is all just standard for a harem show, including the terrible writing and the cliches packed like sardines in a crushed tin box. I'm not familiar with the harem genre so I didn't expect something quite so unremarkable. It's basically just a showcase for character design and ecchi shit. And that's what harem fans want.

So, this is just a quick cash-in on the harem genre. Unlike all of kyoani's other shows, no real thought went into the development. Nobody bothered to write any clever dialog. Nobody ever tried to make the characters feel real. They just packaged up the tits and asses and shipped them out.

Also I suspect we'll look back on episode two as specifically bad. After the first ep I was unenthusiastic but ready to continue, but the second ep I was aggravated and oppressively bored. I doubt they can consistently maintain that level of shitty.
