Airs later today, get ready for flashbacks
>expecting anything else from a BL mangaka
Well I won't deny undertones coming from this mangaka but promo art is often just gratuitously gay
They're entirely heterosexual anon.
If the anime is ecchi, the promo art is borderline porn.
If the anime has a female cast, the promo art is either /u/ or fap material
It only makes sense that if the anime has a male cast, this happens
I wouldn't judge a mangaka base on their previous work. Take Sekirei's author for instance, all her previous work before Sekirei are BL.
>Glad I dropped it before wasting 20 min on yaoi shit.
But the main point of the flashback is the old dudes getting together with a geisha and after that arc Konatsu and the MC fuck
A mangafag in a previous thread said it's not quite that
Oops, forgot to spoiler. Sorry.
Yeah, I think shotas are still Ishida and Yamadera.
That's what HS' schedule says, yes.
Author is full homo
So the whole show then. Fuck, Yotaro was so cute.
It's more likely they'll compress, move or omit things than that they'll make the first episode set in the present and everything else an extended flashback that ignores two of the main characters.
>[HorribleSubs] Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - 02 [720p].mkv
Well, I cringed
>Do they sound good?
They're really cute but they're only shotas for a few minutes.
Dead guy dresses rather lewd.
Glad to see the show's still got it.
Nice to be able to shut up those doomsayers claiming the first episode's quality was a result of it being a stitch of the OVA, show's just as beautiful in this episode, and hell I liked both performances better than the ones in the first. The bad performance was heart-wrenching, seeing his clenched and shaking fists, the sweat on his face, the piano drowning out his performance, like holy shit. And then the latter made me actually lol at the last bit, that was fucking funny.
Soundtrack is still extremely good, although when the fuck do we get the OP visuals?
Also what'd you guys think of the ED? I like the song and it's very stylish, I usually prefer more bombastically animated stuff but this is far more in line with the show's tone, makes for a more fitting end.
I'm loving the hell out of this. Pretty much every rakugo sequence is making me smile ear to ear, except for Kiku's disaster of a first performance, but you really can't blame him. Lord knows I've felt the same as him on-stage, I'm surprised he didn't lash out more when backstage, Ain't nothing worse then knowing your failing and the audience letting you know you are too. Still, episode was great. I'm already disappointed we're only getting one cour of this, I'd love to have six months of rakugo.
Thought it was great again. Yakumo's rakugo had me squirming. I like how you also feel that even if their material had been swapped the outcome still would have been the same. Sukeroku could have made the cabbage baby story work.
I actually did chuckle a bit at the baby story, which made it all the harder. It's definitely a funny story on its own. Crazy respect to the people who made that scene work, taking a legitimately funny story and telling it so poorly as to evoke sympathy, embarrassment, the works from the audience is a feat and a half. The little forced laughs were brutal, and seeing his teacher turn his back on him was just hard.
I was laughing out loud at the end.
This show is wonderful.
I was wary because Yotaro's story last week was so gut-busting I wasn't sure the rakugo this episode would top it, but fucking hell if that money joke didn't have me giggling, especially at the end when he was getting more and more flustered at losing money
My biggest worry for this show was its pure entertainment value, considering it's about some art I know nothing about and the humour is all foreign to me. So pleased that it's translatable while still being fucking funny.
How does Konatsu have fire red hair when her parents have normal Nip genetics?
>whore coming to break up the bromance
>mfw someone unironically tried to tell me that noragami wasn't fujoshit
What's fujo about it?
He's wearing a fundoshi under that right? Or is his junk just hanging out on the doorstep?
>yfw he had a girl on the side and Yotarou and Konatsu are siblings
>I want to fuck a woman
>hey, let's go to Yoshiwara
He's a slut.
I absolutely love the art direction and the color palette really improves a lot the immersion. Glad this episode everything remained consistent in terms from what was shown in the last episode. Also the musical direction was exceptional.
That acting, Ishida is a fucking genius.
I love this show more than I can adequately express. This episode was great, especially in showcasing the unspoken frustration their master has that he would have the perfect heir and apprentice if he could just smash the two he's got into one being.
First off, eww.
Second, think about it: one apprentice takes rakugo so seriously it cripples his ability to perform, the other doesn't it take it seriously enough to keep it from being only stand-up
sit-down?comedy. The combination of both would have an ideal performer with the range to do literally anything. The way things are now, he can either grant them both the title of Yakumo or neither of them the title, and either option is inferior to the desired intent.
We know Sukeroku calmed down slightly.
It is interesting to see how he was the better performer today but he was a bit over the top compared to standard rakugo performances. Even Yotaro was more calm when doing dekigokoro.
Nigga go watch this show
Fucking killed me inside
I had to lie down after this part
>Feminine fuccboi with a cane that was raised in a whorehouse.
I can safely say I've never seen a character like that.
>The way the piano overtakes his performance
This shows direction is so fucking good
Flubbing the script. Having your nerves take over so badly that your unable to finish. Passing out. It could have been much much worse. Especially with the way the background music was building up, I thought he was on going to fail completely and utterly before the end.
What a cute gay boy.
The story wasn't that funny so it's not all his fault even if he performed terrible.
Having him pass out wouldn't have been as bad, because at least then it would've cut away to a different scene. The entire time he was performing I was sitting there hoping it wouldn't make us watch the entire thing, but it did and it was terrible.
The guy who directed pic related
Can an anon tell me if the shotas rakugo in the beginning good?
I am having trouble being able to hear good from bad.
To me the little shota was having fun repeating lines but was not really acting.
I could not tell the difference between his characters.
>To me the little shota was having fun repeating lines but was not really acting.
>I could not tell the difference between his characters.
I think that was the point. He wasn't good but he was able to make Kikuhiko laugh
It's narrative comedy anon. If you can feel a narration that has separate characters well done and an atmosphere dictated by the energy of the narrator, then it's good.
That being said, I didn't particularly think it was good. It was definitely lively -- due in part to his nature -- but it felt really stiff and lacked real feelings of a story or the ability to differentiate character; it sounded kind of rehearsed, for lack of a better word.
Not to say it was bad though, considering he was just a little kid mimicking a rakugo style.
>I am having trouble being able to hear good from bad.
Just do the same thing you would do if you were watching Akagi or any mahjong anime without knowing the rules. Use context and other characters reactions to guess what was a good move or not.
And you're in luck because the show is extremely well directed so it's very easy to pick up on all sorts of clues.
>To me the little shota was having fun repeating lines but was not really acting.
>I could not tell the difference between his characters.
That was the point. The 7th Yakumo said he was just copy someone he'd seen and not acting properly.
>Yeah but it would be nice to be able to tell on my own.
You can if you pick up on the context clues or listen to what the characters who know what they're talking about are saying.
No one here is a rakugo expert, and the people giving you feedback are only telling you about the clues they picked up or quoting what the characters already said.
Look for things like the tone of voice. A big give away for that first rakugo was how the character voices were essentially the same. The cuts didn't change perspective as much as usual either, which made it harder to tell when he had changed character.
This all gave away that he wasn't great.
>Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
>Shouwa Genroku: mid-Shouwa period
>Shinjuu: lovers suicide
Everything in the title makes sense so far except the lovers suicide thing. Who are the lovers?
The big shows are the camera angles and the music.
You can find other subtle hints but those two are the easiest so far to really tell what's what. For example, when the master in the first episode did his rakugo about the guy in the snow you could tell it was kind of serious and professional just from the dark stage and the lack of camera movement.
Really the rakugo segments are the best part so far, they're so well made.
Shinjuu can mean double suicide too.
>In common parlance shinjū is used to refer to any group suicide of persons bound by love, typically lovers, parents and children, and even whole families.
Anon posted a review of the OVA which seemed to suggest that there was a scene implying the lovers' suicide was a metaphorical thing with Yakumo worrying that Rakugo would die with him.
It was partially in last episode
The piano drowning out Yakumo was so well done. It mimicked rakugo itself, with a slow start building up the pace of the wordplay with a sudden end. At the same time it matched Yakumo's increasingly growing desperation too.

good ep but where's more bestgirl
man this is bullshit what the hell
talk about false advertising
I'm so glad Deen didn't fuck this up. I had a big, stupid ass smile on my face by the end of the episode. Wasn't even that gay, but at this point I don't even care.
I wanted to pause the video because I felt so bad for him.
Who is that hottie on the left?
How do you think he died?
Are you a mangafag or just shit talking?
I'd like to know if she gets any farther in her dream of performing but I can't tell from anything I've found on google. I was rooting for her more than MC in episode 1.
Talking shit in moderation is a past time of mine, as it should be to everyone on imageboards
Can you really say you didn't get the same impression? She looks to be devoted to learning rakugo and that's a good quality, but it looks like it manifests by listening to some records and burning a pack of smokes
It's been called an accident and there was a frame of Yakumo on top of him with them both covered in blood, though it could be symbolic
>but it looks like it manifests by listening to some records and burning a pack of smokes
Well apparently grills weren't allowed to do it back then and the closest teacher around is a dick who "murdered" her dad, don't know what other avenues of practice are available to her desu
She should go easy on the smokes. It's a bad habit to associate it with something, like eating chips while watching TV. If you're going to sit around and try to improve yourself, don't do anything like that
My guess is it's probably a flaw though? She has a smoke with her in half the scenes she's in
Did Yakumo murder Suketoru?
That wasn't embarrassment, that was full-on suffering.
His hope and optimism: gone.
goes to a setting can be mundane, and you dont need explosions and saving the world for an interesting plot and captivaying story. Just good characters, and a realistic history between them. Looking forwards to next weeks.
Did Sukeroku manage to drag Yakumo to a whorehouse?
He's a major stiff.
Now I know this is not a statement one should make 2 eps into the season, but Rakugo is going to be the AOTS.
I don't think even most comedy shows made me laugh as much as Rakugo did. Dekigokoro was incredible.
Also I cracked a few smiles at Kiku's performance
Wasn't as bad as snoring,
As the music got faster paced, I was expecting someone to throw something at him.
Makes sense really. The first 3 episodes of that were fucking amazing.
Then it continued and really fell flat, pulling backstories into the anime, which only occur later in the manga. If only it was an 3 episode series.
Loli Konatsu when?
Not anytime soon.
She's the victim here.
Poor girl is so in love with this dude who doesn't give a shit about her. Dude's bro makes a move on her, dudes catches them hugging and dumps her.
The way her feet align at a point shows either bashfulness or nervousness in her body language, but in that kind of intimate pose I think she likes him because of her eyes, smile, slight blush (while they aren't seeing each others' faces), and unfurrowed brow. The body language is pretty strong. It could also be a rebound since someone said she liked Yakumo first
so does the MC fuck the Mian Girl later in the the story?
Dear anon, do you have scans of the later volumes? Please share.
>Dear anon, do you have scans of the later volumes?
No I've just done extensive google image searching and reading up on spoilers posted by nips.
I hope the whole volumes get uploaded if the anime gets popular enough.
yeah, the ones in the first episode weren't that great either as far as i could tell.
although the his older version had a much more varied delivery, it was still mild at best.
but i could tell the second one in this episode was clearly pretty good. i was smirking just from his delivery alone.
Not him but I found the chapter of that pic here:
And I think some are here:
Although I see vol.4 and vol.5 are missing. Dunno why.
She looks just like her dad, especially the eyes.
I hadn't realize it.
>Interested in anything bout Rakugo
>When a certain man is released from prison, he knows exactly where he's heading first. After falling in love with a traditional comic storyteller's rendition of the story called "Shinigami," he is determined to become his apprentice. The performer, Yakumo, has never taken an apprentice before, but to everyone's surprise, he accepts the eager ex-prisoner, nicknaming him "Yotaro."
>As Yotaro happily begins his new life, he meets others in Yakumo's life, including Yakumo's ward Konatsu. Konatsu was the daughter of a famous storyteller, and Yakumo took her in after her father's tragic death. Konatsu loved her father's storytelling, and would love to become a performer in her own right--but that path is not available for women.
Seems decent, manga translations when?
Her BL is criminally underscanned too. One of her series only had Jmanga versions for years, and many of her oneshots/one volume BL stories are unscanned.
Yes, please, do it. I need to know what happens next.
>I don't know enough about the author to tell how edgy she can get.
Her other manga are the opposite of edgy. They're cute or sexy. Even her edgiest yakuza manga has no deaths.
>tfw I thought I only had to be careful of spoilers in Boku Dake threads
Nigga what? Oh shit, I thought you were joking. Fuck man why would she. Also, that person behing kid Konatsu. Is he laughing? And from Bon's expression I think she is asking him if he killed her father.
Well my day has been ruined.
Is this weird fever dream or a reveal done in a far later volume?
Because the spoilers I've seen just say Miyokichi was leaning on a window frame and it broke and Sukeroku reached out to save her or some shit
I still don't get why the crazy bitch would do that.
She seemed cute in the first 3 volumes.
>Reveal in one of the last volumes.
>mfw DEEN is gonna end the anime all lovey dovey with the lie and hide the truth about worst girl
Watching the show knowing the truth is going to be so weird.
Is he alright?
>Nip poster will watch the anime and then will continue reading the manga
>meanwhile, we'll never know why
Life is unfair.
