What is the most intelligent anime you've ever watched?
Hello?

Kek
C: The money of soul and possibility control.

Crayon Shin-chan
K-On!
>>136142898
Death Parade easily.
>>136142898
utena sucks
>>136142935
How are you?
What makes an anime intelligent?
>>136142898
you must be at least 18 years old to post.
>>136143071
>moeshit
no... just no
>>136143124
>taking 11 episodes to deliver a simple moral is intelligent
Kampfer.
Plebs will never understand.
>>136142898
I surrendered in my attempts to understand what the fuck was going on in the ending of Angel's Egg.
That aside, 'intelligent' is kind of a nebulous term. I think the monogataris are really fucking smart in the way they play with story structures and how they are framed, but maybe you mean intelligent in the sense of being complicated.
I do think the last ten or so episodes of Popee the Performer are literal masterpieces of it's craft. Not to sure how to explain it, but that final segment is quite brilliant.
>>136143269
>no... just no
Are you a time traveler from ten years ago?
Probably Akikan
G-Reco.
>>136143270
you just don't get it, man.
The works of Takahata and Oshii as they are directly influenced by highbrow cinema auteurs such as Ozu, Antonioni, Marker,Tarkovsky and Godard. Only Kon comes close.
>>136143270
>taking a story to deliver a simple moral
You're that fucking stupid.
>>136142898
Ufotable's Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. I thought it was just gonna be some mediocre shit, but the philosophical depth and thematic execution were astonishing to say the least.
Keit-ai.
>>136142980
I can see it in your eyes.
>>136142898
Naruto. Because I dropped that shit and went to read a book instead.
>>136143422
Explain it to me Ebert, how was 90% of the show not extraneous nonsense retreading the same problem until the character finally reached an epiphany? It was Endless Eight levels of redundant, it just wasn't as obvious because each episode had a different narrative to cover up the redundancy. I guess if you found the characters and narrative entertaining that's fine, but intelligent it was not.
School Days probably

To this day I still don't know why I watch it over western shit, but I know it's not because it's deep.
>>136144167
>implying western TV shows are any better
>>136142898
Probably Planetes. I can't remember half the shit I watched, though. Also Mushishi always gave me the impression of wisdom and intelligence.
What exactly did Akio want?
I get that he wanted his powers back but what exactly would he have done after getting back his powers?
>>136143671
>>136143813
Tatami Galaxy I think.
>>136143194
It can count up to ten.
>>136144404
This, and a lot of the other things mentioned in this thread. It's still shit, but there's some smart shit. I'd even include FLCL. Yah really. Also SZS.
>>136143090
This.
EVANGELION
>>136144526
Sex with middle school students.
Patlabor 2
It was so intelligent I fell asleep
>>136143602
Yea but you had to be pretty smart to read the subtitles because they went pretty fast so I'd say the show was pretty smart, anon
>>136142898
Death Note.
Because I am similar to the protagonist. Intelligent, Nihilistic and with a Wicked Sense of Humor.
>>136145291
neither intelligent nor was it trying to be
it was basically just a derailed series
you read manga for intelligent content
I mean intelligent anime is there but no one watches it for that reason.
>>136142898
K-On.
>>136142898
I don't even know what should define an "intelligent" anime
>>136146029
the same definition of "intelligent" in all mediums
something that pseudo-intellectuals can read/watch to feel smart
>>136145483
He didn't need powers for that.
>>136144526
Pretty sure he wanted his powers back while still retaining who he was as a human, so he could still be a sex maniac but also have the power to rule more than just a school campus.
Miyazaki (the senior) stuff.
>>136143194
It has intelligent fans with a wicked sense of humor.
>>136146102
Okay smart guy, what do real intellectuals watch if only pseudo-intellectuals watch smart anime?
>>136142898
War and Peace. Marya-chan is best girl.
>>136146286
People of intelligence don't need to read/watch certain things to verify their intelligence, they kinda do that by their achievements.
there's entertainment value in creativity and new ways to explore things but that's a means to an ends. Ends being the entertainment which is the only value of the entertainment medium. Using it for status shows that you are probably not that very intelligent (or useful).
>>136142898
>intelligent
How about you rephrase and go with anime that makes you think critically so you don't look like such a faggot.
>>136146468
The topic isn't "shows you watch to verify your intelligence."
>>136145831
>similar to the protagonist
you forgot homosexual like him as well
>>136146501
Oh yeah, shinsekai yori was pretty intelligent too.
>>136146565
do you not know how to read or something
Seikon no Qwaser. All that chemistry and physics, right there for you.
>>136146887
>I am going to fuck this duck.
was GITS intelligent
>>136146029
I don't know how OP meant it, but an "intelligent" anime or any piece of media could be something you have to be intelligent to understand, something made by someone intelligent, or something that is typically enjoyed by intelligent people but not by stupid people. The only anime that you have to be above 70 IQ to understand are Angel's Egg and G-Reco, so it's not really useful to talk about it that way. You could consider it to be anime made by people who are intelligent, but the problem with that is that it's a distributed process among many people of varying degrees of intelligence. You could limit it to directors, but they don't have the kind of creative control over their anime as do authors or mangaka. So that's out too. Finally you could consider it to be the kind of anime that intelligent people like, but I don't know of any anime preference consensus among intelligent people and I don't think you'll find one since it depends more on personal taste and time spent watching anime. So basically anyone who talks about an anime being intelligent is just memeing on you, like OP.
>>136142898
Your favorite anime.
>>136146586
KOTH was more intelligent than any anime that's been created

He's a manchild.
>>136146586
>not realizing he was trolling, even when he used those capital letters
>>136143602
>it just wasn't as obvious
That fact makes it smarter than half of the anime out there.
hyouka
> Anime
> Intelligent
No such thing. Anime has and will always be nips just being pretentious. If you want intelligence, go read a book.
so utena's goal was to find her prince but it was a fake prince and she ended up finding her princess.
also I didn't understand who was the evil one between anthe and her brother.
ikuhara is a good creator but he is too pretentious and pessimistic to make me like him. jojo is far better.
>>136152280
How is he pretentious or pessimistic?
All of his shows end on "true happiness is achieved through love and acceptance of other people"
>also I didn't understand who was the evil one between anthe and her brother.
Akio is Lucifer. This is literally spelled out to the viewer. He is unwilling to change and became stuck in his coffin. Anthy is not a princess or a witch, this is also spelled out to the viewer. She was abused, she abused others, but was not a bad person and grew against hatred and was able to leave her coffin.
>>136142898
Serial Experiments Lain
Legends of the Galactic Heroes
Mushishi
Ghost in the Shell
Kino's Journey
>>136143444
>eroge
>philosophical depth
Can't make this shit up senpai
Texhnolyze, from an artistic point of view.
>>136142898
heh nope I didn't felt utena was 'intelligent' at all. same reason evangelion isn't. It surely is entertaining anime tho
well shit I don't watch those 2deep4u animes too. ninja slayer should be the closest to 'intelligent'
>>136153931
>she abused others, but was not a bad person
oxymoron. she seemed all too much manipulative to be considered a good person.
akio is a bad example for lucifer. to me prometheus has an increased resemblance.
I find ikuhara pretentious and pessimistic because none of his characters solve their problems through reason or masculinity. it's all about emotions and feelings.
Umineko
>inb4 was no anime
>>136142898
>>136154420
It's not an oxymoron. She was abused and hurt by humanity because she wanted to save her brother's life, in turn she became a bitter person but the very reason she was able to grow against that was because she wasn't bad. And Utena knew that.
I don't think you know what pretentious or pessimistic mean.
>>136154648
Pretentious as when presenting a vulgar concept as noble. Pessimistic as a way of showing that happiness is achieved only through suffering.
>Utena
>intelligent
No more so than Eva.
Utena is comfy despite being 2deep, but it's saved from being shit by its obscurity.
>>136155015
Do you have some sort of attention disorder and reading comprehension issues? The concept of the prince was shown to be bullshit in the show itself and Utena matured and graduated when she let go of it, and as I said happiness is achieved through unconditional love and acceptance.
>>136155261
Unconditional love is something out of fairy tales and myths.
Acceptance of sorrow can indeed lead to happiness, but it will be the happiness of a fox who could not reach the grapes.
>>136155261
No the concept of the prince wasn't bullshit. Rather it was an ideal that couldn't exist but should be strived for.
There will never be a perfect prince who will save everyone and make everyone a princess however you should continue to sryrove for that ideal
>>136142898
Probably Utena, but watching anime because you want to see something intelligent is a bad idea
>>136153931
>How is he pretentious or pessimistic?
I like Utena, but it's pretentious because it's full of things that sound really meaningful but actually don't mean much eg. the "smash the world's shell" speech. A lot of the time they take really simple ideas and then present them in an indirect way so they seem more complex than they really are.
There's definitely a lot of pessimism too. Most forms of love are destructive, most people are dishonest with themselves and/or others, most people only really care about their own selfish needs, etc.
>>136143573
I can see it in your smile.
>>136142935
Is there anybody in there?
>>136142898
Yuri Kuma Arashi
I wonder how many years it'll take for something better to get made.
>>136158276
You're all I've ever wanted.
Something like Eiken or MD Geist, aka something that's smart enough to realize anime is an awful format for trying to be intelligent and just has fun with the medium.
>>136154061
It's okay if you don't understand it. There's a lot to take in and you won't get it all in just one viewing. I've watched it four times now and I'm still finding new things to appreciate about it.
>>136158431
Just nod if you can hear me.
>>136154420
>>136154420
>I find ikuhara pretentious and pessimistic because none of his characters solve their problems through reason or masculinity
