Die young, and become a beloved classy series.
Or live long enough to be transformed into a magical girl harem bullshit.
Fuck you japan
Blah, blah, who cares.
I'm watching this for best girl.
Agreed 100%, OP. I can't believe they tainted Macross with this stupid idol shit.
What the hell is wrong with Japan these days? Why can't anime go back to a better time?
Wooo yeah, endless mecha
Thats really a better time
kek, thanks 4chan for making me feel better
I was dissapinted, I was waiting another plus or zero style macross after frontier, wich was incredibly "mhe" for my taste. But since I'm a fanboy, I guess I'll look at it anyways and suffer loudly.
I'm not even slighly mad that they went with idols, that's just the way things are today. What made me infernally fucking mad was said idols being magical girls and valkyries striking backstreet boys poses. I haven't chimped out like that since germany lost WW2.
But that first preview episode thing was pretty cool
What are you trying to prove? The animation got better and the stories got dumber? moe~uguu is what's stopping anime from being truly great.
Macross is about music, a love triangle and variable fighters, not magical girls.
Here is a screencap from Macross 7 where Basara shoots a musical laser beam out of his mouth.
Anime had just as many bad stories back then, and just as many gems. You just think it's better because you look back on the gems retroactively and don't see the crap that came alongside them.
Macross has always had idols, transforming robot planes and some kind of love triangle. Having idols sing to get rid of whatever sickness seems like an extension from frontier. Anons complaining did you actually watch the other Macross shows?
Not to mention having the girls fight instead of being there just because is a definitive step up
But they aren't magical beyond the power of song, which has always been part of Macross. All the effects and acts of strength were all down to technology like holograms and drones. If anything you could say they are more a sentai group than anything.
I'm looking forward to seeing the show, they aren't exactly magical girls when they have drones and all have the same thing as Ranka and Sheryl.
Overall was excited as it looks like they are going to have humans fight human like creatures instead of bug creatures. I figure lots of fighting and in the end they all come to some kind of peace from singing because that is the series. Also they have 3 months and probably a 1/3 of the episode missing, last time they did a preview they cut out Sheryl from the preview.
The only other show that disappointed me faster than Macross Delta from the moment of first hearing about it to then watching the trailer was probably Bee Train's Blade of the Immortal.
This new Macross looks like complete generic garbage
Just about every girl in Macross is masgical, save for maybe Minmay.
Basara, Mylene, and the rest of Fire Bomber were Anima Spiritia and had magical abilities to rejuvenate life force.
Sara Nome had special blood that allowed her to interact with the Protoculture bird mecha.
Ranka was magic through fold waves and could speak to the Vajra that way. Same with Sheryl after she got the Varjra disease.
The only difference now is that they're weaponising idols fully, rather than having them in the background, on a stage and singing away. It makes sense that they're directing their attacks in a more tangible way. I'd personally have prefered for them to stay in their Valkyries, but I don't care, going techno mahou shoujo makes sense.
Honestly, I think it's just people who watched Plus and Zero as well, since they ignore the singing parts for MUH TRANSFORMING PLANES. Or people who glorify old series because they think they're all super edge and dark.
It's 4chan, if you have a somewhat thought out and moderate thread, you're not going to get any replies.
You have to go full fanboy to attract shitposters, or full shitpost.to attract fanboys.
>Macross has to recycle the same stuff over and over like Gundam because autists can't handle changes
>The only difference now is that they're weaponising idols fully
That already happened in 7 though.
True. But to be fair they were high tier pilots. Basara, because Basara. Myelene is Jenius progeny. Ray was a former Valkyrie pilot before joining Fire Bomber.
Whereas now they're weaponising idols that couldn't pilot, or haven't been taught to pilot at the very least.
>Kawamori added that this new series will emphasize "Valkyrie vs. Valkyrie," as opposed to previous television series. While video series such as Macross Plus and Macross Zero prominently featured variable fighters against each other, Kawamori has not done this in a Macross television series in a long time.
>The emcee of the event noted that the Macross Delta logo features a planet within the Japanese characters that form the word "Macross." Kawamori specifically noted that this is in direct contrast with Macross Frontier, whose setting was primarily in space. He started to describe more about Macross Delta's setting but stopped short and asked fans to watch the "'Chō Jikū' Seisaku Happyōkai" ("The Super Dimension" Production Unveiling) event on October 29.
>Kawamori pointed out that the delta symbol in the logo is made of triangular symbols, to symbolize the three main thematic elements of Macross: music, a love triangle, and transforming fighter planes. However, he noted that the two symbols are split, and explained that this is indicative that the three elements will not come together as expected in the new story.
-Doing, Valkyrie vs. Valkyrie something he literally hasn't done as a major part of a TV series ever, something clearly seen in episode 1
-Noting a marked different from Frontier in format
-Saying that the usual triangle aspects won't be the same as before
But yeah nah, let's just focus on the idols (Even that's different from before what with them being active only seen with Basara before)
Why do Plusfags have to be so annoying?
I really love Plus but there's no way something like that would work as a Macross TV series
>Implying Rototech isn't a dead franchise and it's fans are worth listening to
It's going to happen because certain types of people will watch Macross. Just picking out two of the groups, it'll be Macross fans who will like it regardless, and actionfags, who are a mix of new and old, but one thing they will have in common is that they think that because it's part of an older franchise, it'll be a throw back to MUH 80S/90S OVA ERA ACTION MANIME.
So the second group expects something like Plus. When they see the love triangle and idol aspect, they start shitting on it not being a 'real' Macross because it wasn't what they expected and try to espouse what little they know from reading a wikia of some kind.
I figured it'd be that. I wouldn't be surprised if Minmay was too, to be entirely honest. Fold waves and fold tech are the answer to most things in Macross. People are complaining about Walkure, but they're doing the exact same thing, with Vars being something to do with interfering with a person's biological fold waves and Walkure are just neutralising it.
Fuck, it's practically the same as 7, just replace Spiritia with Vars. Get your fold waves fucked by Windermere/Protodeviln and get infected by Vars/Lack of Spiritia so you fight against your own people, only to be cured by singers.
Yeah, from what I remember they did too. Still, all of Fire Bomber are of Valkyrie piloting stock.
From a training perspective, it's probably easier to find idols that are good at idoling and pilots that are good at piloting, than expecting the planets to align in the form of Fire Bomber, who can do both, at the same time.
I think that Minmei did as well, though that's doesn't make her abnormal by any means, it just means that her like Ranka and Sheryl is a descendant of one of the singers from protoculture, you're either born with it or you're not.
It makes perfect sense for the government to wise up and start weaponizing the singers.
They weren't born with it they were exposed to weird alien stuff. Sheryl for part of frontier is about how she doesn't have it. That might not be the case with the singers in Delta.
Yeah, exactly. If you put it into context with previous Macross and Shouji Kawamori's more recent works, Delta is just a natural evolution of that. The only people who I think are really complaining are people who think that Macross is something that it isn't, or are fairweather about the interest in Macross.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what happened with the Windermere colony fleet and how they rustled the locals to cause them to fight back.
Shadow Chronicles was pretty shit. Sentinels too.
>tfw one of my lines is the biggest and taken out of context
Macross and Robotech have gone completely different ways. What, with Protoculture being a power source in Robotech and the last Robotech story involved another alien race invading Earth and winning, and the humans returning with the Shadow technology from a different alien race and then getting backstabbed.
Macross on the other hand, has been on the side of eternal winners and humanity proliferated.
Relevant in what way? They don't have any creative ability so not like they would ever make anything, but because they have semi legal standing to SDFmacross rights they have a chance to sell a dubious owned product to a sony or other studio to cash in on 80s nostalgia. Maybe Jem disaster will prevent that from ever happening.
>Macross and Robotech have gone completely different ways
My point was that the man is clearly not interested in doing more Robotech or if he is, none of the previous tries have actually been successful and nobody cares about it anymore
Oh, my mistake.
Just 80s nostalgia and people hoping that it'll be revived because of that. Also because talk of a live action Hollywood film has cropped up every few years for the last decade.
Because they don't remember the show, they only remember the dogfights. They're some well animated dogfights no doubt but still
(It's more like 25% at least)
I mean I haven't been in a Plus discussion and someone brought up Sharon Apple in forever
There are people in this thread that don't think Macross 7 was the tightest shit.
At this point, it might as well be.
I wonder what happened to Shadow Chronicles...
>I wonder what happened to Shadow Chronicles...
It bombed and had poor critical reception?
>I hadn't remembered their marriage being so ridiculous with the rainbow road and everything.
And it was magical
>Gamlin was the only good part about 7.
Fixed. And I don't count the greatness that is Max. 7 doesn't get to make claim on any of the carryover characters.
According to Chronicles you're born with it. It's just that communicating with the Vajra and producing fold waves are two very different things. According to the Sheryl manga which Kawamori oversaw Sheryl has always produced fold waves, which was part of why she was chosen
