I just finished reading Monster.
Why does /a/ hate it so much? I really liked the ambiance, the character developments and the general feel of a manga taking place in a western environment.
What part of it didn't you like or you think was grossly overrated?
how well does the anime adapt the manga
I hear so much about it, I know I have to read Pluto and 20th Century Boys
But when it comes to Monster what's the best option? Does it have a good soundtrack?
Not all lives are equal. Tenma deciding to save Johan's life at the end just because he's a doctor and he feels morally obligated to goes against everything his manhunt has been about, and is quite frankly repulsive, considering all the lives Johan erased or ruined, and how little remorse he showed. Johan deserved to die, or at least go to prison for life. In that regard, I would say there isn't as much "character development" as OP says there is, Johan stays a nihilistic asshole until the very end, and Tenma stays the benevolent doctor who can do no wrong.
The side characters were better than Johan/Tenma though.
Eva fucked everything Urasawa drew.
Nina best girl.
Most likely because Tenma is a genuinely good male specimen and because Nina looks like his boyfriend Johan.
loved this shit. would be crazy to see this in the supposed live action series they've been trying to make for years.
im not a big fan of del toro but I could see him doing some pretty awesome shit with this character if he got the right actor.
>how well does the anime adapt the manga
It's basically a scene-by-scene adaptation(except some of them are re-ordered)
The Japanese Voice Cast is also top-notch shit
>Does it have a good soundtrack?
It kicks ass
>mfw /a/ meme it for years and now newfags take it serious
ITT: Overrated shit ;^)
Way to miss the whole goddamn point of the show idiot
Johan needed love and forgiveness if Tenma had shot him like Nina did when he wanted her to kill him Johan would have still been out there killing people(if he survived which he always does anyways)
the issue i had with Monstah is Johan.
how does he do what he does ? it's completely nonsense and superpowers bullshit, how the fuck could a goddamn 6yo kiddo provoque all that butchery in the kinderheim511 ?
how does he manipulate others to commite crimes ?
being a handsome bishonen doesn't explain doing what he does, especially that the setting is supposed to be "realistic"
That's just a cheap cliche, some people are irredeemable and should not be shown forgiveness, especially when they're serial murderers - that's just insulting to their victims.
Tenma and Nina did a full 180 degree turn around in about 5 seconds.
>That's just a cheap cliche, some people are irredeemable and should not be shown forgiveness
That's just bullshit moralfaggotry from your part
All that would happen after that is Tenma getting arrested for killing Johan
And would mean that Johan was right and Tenma was wrong and that Johan succeeded in dragging him to his world
The whole show is a battle between Life and Death
Johan chose Death and believed people are only equal in Death
Tenma was the completely opposite
This whole show is an allegory of ideologies
It's the battle of the Angel vs the Devil
It's all philosophical
Taking this shit in a grounded way like some sort of CSI shit like you're doing is absolutely retarded
Well, we get a pretty good idea of how he caused a massacre at Ruhenheim, don't we? Mainly through targeting the weak, blocking escape routes and spreading deadly rumours.
He probably did something very similar at Kinderheim.
She still loves him and is even willing to sacrifice her life for him, she changed and redeemed herself throughout the story. More than enough reasons for them to start again.
