Arguably, getting close to the Beta to infiltrate through their lines to get to the Lasers is the best strategy.

You can risk that if you have machines with split second reaction speeds.

So, no Gekishit/F-4 or even the MiG-21, but the J-10 could pull that through quite easily.

One of the things I really like about Muv-Luv is that it's NOT "the super robots do everything."

The mechs are just part of a combined-arms doctrine; artillery and air support are just as important. The purpose of the TSFs isn't to win the war, it's to take out the enemy anti-air so that the horde can be carpet bombed.
