Was late to the party, last thread just went down so I'll use this.
That has to be one of the best episodes of Gintama ever. The voice work, the directing, the cliffhanger, everything was just fantastic. Haven't been this hyped watching an episode in years.

I thought Kagura's funeral arc was good, seemed up to the old standard and the Shogun Assassination Arc has been mixed so far but definitely more good than bad, this last episode for example was incredible.

I was going to praise Sugita in the thread but I think everyone did an amazing job, Takasugi's Seiyu really made you feel sorry for him, Yamadera was perfect for Shouyou and really gave the impression of a teacher you'd like to follow and whoever voiced young Gintoki really sounded like a young Sugita with the tone.

The voice work was definitely good here.
Takasugi's voice as he was wailing fist after fist on Gintoki's face was incredible. Honestly, this whole fight, hyped up over the years as it was, completely delivered. One of anime's great fights, definitely. I can see angsty teenagers making Linkin Park AMVs to this fight for years to come.

I'd argue its one of the best serious episodes but I agree its not the best although I can't think of a best one at the moment. Would probably have to go with the Shinsengumi trying to get Otsu back to a hotel and ending up discussing which Ghibli girl is best. It just perfectly summed up the humour of the show.

Takasugi punching Gintoki into the ground was brutal. I loved it.

I don't think the new anime is bad, but I am still angry they skipped all those comedy arcs to go straight to the serious business.

Probably. I am assuming this arc might end the current anime, then the next one will start up with the skipped comedy arcs.

Meanwhile, Love Potion arc is a 2-part OVA. I can't really wait for it...

Budget wise Gintama' is best.
I thought they had enough money to animate it well, not trash quality as we see now.
It's a shame.
