He's pretty good and has been over all fair towards Hachiman. I liked he had enough of people tailing after him so Hayama kept quiet about future plans. I wonder if people hating him are those who are bitter against his kind of character type from their high school or a potential obstacle for Yukino shippers? He's not going to end up with her but please not with Miura.
>>136042917 No, he selfishly welched on Tobe's request and together with Ebina used Hachiman, so his clique wouldn't have to change. In the past he failed to protect Yukino from bullying. Hayama is scum, a coward and a cunt. He is to be shunned and marginalized, and given the stinky-eye like Hachiman is doing here
>>136042947 Now that is funny. Hayama uses correct grammar and can engage in discussion. Over half of 4channers are more like Hayama's posse, somewhere between Tobe and that "virgin opportunist Ooka" as Hachiman calls him
>>136042838 Well he's a great character one way or the other.
I love how he's the white knight contrast to Hachiman's dark knight. But what actually makes him good is how he's not perfect, he's full of insecurities. He's frustrated at the fact that people hold him to standards that he feels obligated to answer to, like staying the popular and perfect guy everyone sees him as. Hachiman on the other hand acts uninhibited by these social obligations, and Hayato feels inferior to him because even though he wants to do the same, he can't bring himself to. He's human and full of imperfections like the rest of the cast, and has plenty of depth as a character.
Hayama disrespectfully calls Yukino by Yukino-chan even though he knows he has no right to intimate honorific and first name. Here he withers under Yukino's reproachful glare for not addressing her as Yukinoshita-san. What a cunt.
>>136043364 Impossible, Yukino has no romantic feelings for Hayama, and despises superficial relationships that clique has. In fact, that will be Yui's downfall in the main story, that at key times she went to be with her superficial clique and left Hachiman open to getting closer with Yukino.
>>136044063 No, they WERE childhood friends, until Hayama didn't protect Yukino from bullying because it would have cost him social status. He is now That Spineless Cunt that Formerly Was Childhood Friend of Yukino
The thrust of the conflict between the main group when Hachiman subjects himself to rejection - the ideal image of 8man Yukino had collapsing Yui echoing Hayato's "I'm not so nice." Iroha's hidden frustration with the student council president thing
The point was that he acts perfect, a stressful endeavor that he feels obligated to go along with. It's important and unique to his character because of how it's contrasted with the way Hachiman (the narrator who puts his own subjective opinion into the narration) sees him and their white versus black dynamic.
Yes, he did nothing to protect your shitty waifu, you have clearly won this argument between the both of you, can you now shut the fuck up and talk about the series proper without your autism acting up or do you require more bait?
>>136044389 She was their (Hayama and Yukino's) baby sitter, more or less. Also, his dad is lawyer for Yukinoshita firm, so always has to mind the heir and family rep, pissing her off would be bad for business.
>>136044608 >a stressful endeavor that he feels obligated to go along with
I was boiling it down to the core issue that several other characters share to make fun of his character. I don't believe him not being perfect and being full of insecurites makes him a good character, especially considering that would make nearly everyone in Yahari a good character.
I recgonize he has a unique role in the story, though. Was his dialogue with Hachiman after Yukino and Yui left the resaturant meant to be a jab and/or a true assessment of Hachiman's character?
Haruno is a "tough love" drill sergeant type character; she wants her little sister to to be her own person not crushed by expectations, and also to have Hachiman as boyfriend. That last part makes her really cool despite her heavy handed means
>>136045549 Then again, maybe that's what Hayama wants. By meeting 'everyone's' expectations, he won't be a slave to anyone's expectations. He has ironically obtained freedom and happiness all alone while surrounded by others.
