Well he's a great character one way or the other.

I love how he's the white knight contrast to Hachiman's dark knight. But what actually makes him good is how he's not perfect, he's full of insecurities. He's frustrated at the fact that people hold him to standards that he feels obligated to answer to, like staying the popular and perfect guy everyone sees him as. Hachiman on the other hand acts uninhibited by these social obligations, and Hayato feels inferior to him because even though he wants to do the same, he can't bring himself to. He's human and full of imperfections like the rest of the cast, and has plenty of depth as a character.

I want to touch Yui's yuis.

I like him.

He's not a bad person, and it shows. He's just human, and has flaws like any other human. His relationship with Hachiman is pretty interesting anyway.

The point was that he acts perfect, a stressful endeavor that he feels obligated to go along with. It's important and unique to his character because of how it's contrasted with the way Hachiman (the narrator who puts his own subjective opinion into the narration) sees him and their white versus black dynamic.

I was boiling it down to the core issue that several other characters share to make fun of his character. I don't believe him not being perfect and being full of insecurites makes him a good character, especially considering that would make nearly everyone in Yahari a good character.
