Reiner had to do all the work fighting the titans while he fucks up and loses Eren. Even so after that all Bertolt can do is shout alpha male calls while Reiner is still fighting the titans, not even try to swing around and kill titans too. It's needed for Ymir to come help him. Not even Annie could rely on him to take off Marco's 3DMG, he's very unreliable.

Even the promise shit is pointing at it, and it's fucking Isayama, he doesn't add things just for the keks. And while Isayama claimed her role in the story was important, in the end it was, she contributed to Historia's development, contributed in the RB arc and was a titan to remain interesting. I feel the Ymir-sama thing was related to pointing out about her titan form.
