There's no chance of that in the yugioh world though. Everyone is separated by gigantic holographic battlefields or are surrounded by guards. While Battle City was mostly free for all, Kaiba kept tabs on everyone, so not like you could actually escape with it if you tried.

With Exodia you really only have one strategy, which is to stack your deck with pieces and burn through your cards as fast as possible in order to get the right combination into your hand. Early on this was a viable strategy since the only thing you had to worry about was stopping your opponent from killing you before you drew enough cards, so Exodia worked even if it was extremely dull and frustrating to actually play against a good deck. But eventually the game started getting better at burn control, and shit like synchros and pendulum summons made for much faster games, so Exodia isn't exactly the big thing anymore.
