The English dub is trash, the script is horrendous and a lot of the time the characters talk like they are having a stroke. Even TFS did a better job voicing the characters. The japanese version is way superior.
>Every dub I grew up on is superior
>t. every murifat, frog, beaner, and Alberto Barbossa
American anime dubs are even more cringe worthy than dubbed Hollywood movies. You only don't see it, because you're a monolingual sub human who can't take off the nostalgia goggles.
>You only don't see it, because you're a monolingual sub human who can't take off the nostalgia goggles.
I watched the Germany dub version of DBZ. I rewatched the Jap maybe 5 years ago and then parts of the English dub. So no nostalgia goggles for me.
The Japanese version is pure shit.
And miss the awesome original OST?
I still have that line stuck in my head from watching the movie for the first time. Probably one of his best lines so far.
>inb4 dub is trash BF is trash
fuck off and be retarded somewhere else
All DBZ is better with the Dub because at least Goku isn't voiced by a 120-year old crone.
But it is even better in spanish.
>a 30 year screeching like an altar boy in a confessional booth is acceptable
Nah, fuck that
>Muh Male Goku
I don't give a shit. Everyone else sounds a thousand times better in Japanese. Vegeta, Piccolo, Fucking Frieza, Cell, both Trunks, Satan(Daisuke Gori!), there's no contest. Plus, Goku's barley fucking in DBZ. He basically shows up at the and of each arc to beat the bad guy. And even then he's not that bad, it only when he screams.
I never understood how nostalgia babies can stand shitty script changes, shotty acting and seeing how many shitty "voices"Chris Sabat and 3 other actors can do. Just painfully awful.
Toei fucked up literally everything else about making the anime, why is it so inconceivable to you that they fucked up the casting too? I don't think any reasonable person will claim the original Funimation or Ocean dubs were anything but awful, but that doesn't mean it's ok for Goku to be an old woman and for Krillin to be a little girl.
>better than anything in the original audio
She utterly fails at sounding male. There are voice actresses who can do masculine voices, but she is not one of them. Don't get me wrong, she does her best and it's not her fault she's stuck voicing a grown man, but no one has ever heard Goku's voice and had to wonder if it was a woman.
When you wonder why Goku's voiced by a woman, picture this:
You just watched Dragon Ball up to the end of the Piccolo Daimao arc. Goku was appropriately voiced by a woman who could pull off a child-like voice well. The very next episode, Goku is all grown up and greeted by his friends. How jarring would it be to not only have a grown-up Goku but also a more masculine voice? Nozawa voicing the character throughout his entire life (and she did change the tone) helps form a connection with the character as we watch both series, not to mention it fits Goku's child-like innocence and naivety extremely well.
But this is coming from someone who doesn't like Schemmel anyway, so I don't get it. I much prefer Peter Kelamis, if only he got rid of the stupid surfer accent, he'd pull off a great Goku.
>These hasn't been posted
I respect Nozawa but she is still an awful voice for Adult Goku. There are alot of voices in he JP voices that need to get fucking scrapped like King Kai. His voice sounds like someone who topple over dead at sneezing. Trunks' voice is also annoying. Love Vegeta's voice though.
Kaio's voice actor has health issues. I agree that he needs to be replaced (and he was), but not because he's bad. Listen to his work in Z.
Which Trunks? Kid or Future? They're both voiced by the same guy and he does an amazing job at it.
I imagine it would be similar to reading Dragon Ball up to the end of the Piccolo Daimao arc and Goku showing up to the Budokai as a grown man. It's funny that Bulma and the others didn't recognize his incredibly distinctive voice, isn't it?
It just comes down to Toei not wanting to get rid of the silly idiot Goku who's great for unfunny Japanese jokes. In the manga Goku is a lot more mature after the 5 year timeskip, but in anime filler he constantly acts like a buffoon.
>removed Evangelion's roar sound
>changed the script to remove sexual undertones (Misato conforting Shinji and Asuka's dad fucking his wife's doctor)
>added unnecessary sound effects
(gunshot sound, splat sounds)
It's a shame even though the voice actors were so fucking good
I want to say parts of Cromartie High School. The deadpan delivery of most jokes adds to the humor, and many situations where they look shocked are properly voiced by someone who is stressed and agitated. Even happy moments are well done, such as Hayashida's laughter in this scene;
You can tell that they had fun voicing this.
Martian Successor Nadesico by far. The original VA's played their riles in far too serious antone, while the dub VA's brought the goofiness. Early Spike Spencer was actually pretty fun to listen to, and whoever played Gai nailed the role.
The humming scene was absolutely horrible in the dub. They miss half of the melody and nobody is neither in sync nor in tune.
Also, the original had much more variety in mob voices.
>Gohan's English Kai voice.
That was just plain awful. No voice ever needs to sound that shrill. And she's using the exact same voice for Kid Goku now.
Otherwise, it's a good dub.
>Wanting to butcher that fluid animation just to have him talk slower
Toughie, but this one's up there. Ian Sinclair's a boss.
>It just comes down to Toei not wanting to get rid of the silly idiot Goku who's great for unfunny Japanese jokes. In the manga Goku is a lot more mature after the 5 year timeskip, but in anime filler he constantly acts like a buffoon.
This man gets it. Goku matured more and more in Z, but you'd never know it watching the anime
talk shit all you fucking want but the latin american spanish dub is the best out of every single option, it even keeps the original soundtrack instead of that fucking horrible shit the american dub has and it also keeps with the spirit of the characters
It's half and half for me when it comes to dubs and subs, but sometimes dubs can be absolutely FUCKING golden, especially in some hentai.
>Yes, that is Yami
>muh Falconer techno
>muh amerifat voices
Why the hell are DBZ threads always filled with this bullshit? I'ts like I'm reading Youtube comments or something.
Since when is any dub superior to the japanese version? Isn't this board filled with weeaboos?
I remember Vic Mignogna lost his voice for several days after doing all the raspy, guttural screaming for Broly.
Ironically, I was expecting something like, since Monica Rial's in it, and while she's got talent, the voices she's usually made to use can be extremely forced and ill-fitting. However, some anon posted a clip of her in it and I was actually kind of blown away. Maybe she was just a saving grace in an otherwise awful dub though, not sure.
I swear I am still the one anon who could never stand Kuwabara dubbed. Love Sabat, but that voice in particular just never grew on me.
> Monica Rial
She has such a fucking weird-sounding voice that only works well for very specific roles and is horribly jarring any other time. Same with Greg Ayres.
I still sperged out that time she was on Aqua Teen tho.
all these faggots that enjoy listening to an elderly woman orgasm, end yourselves crack heads
No way, what was she doing in that?
Also I love him, Greg Ayres is a bit of a one-voice pony, but god damn is he the perfect fit for that pony, same with Brianne Siddall
Wow. Need to watch Death Parade increased. I wish she played older women more often.
That's the one, anon. That and her role in Gangsta. It's a shame she's still cast all too often in "I'm totally 14 years old! Hehe!" roles.
This is 100x better than the samey, godzilla sounding jap soundtrack
>not enjoying Horikawa Ryo as Vegeta
>They fell for the Nozawa meme
Don't insult godzilla like that
>mfw I realized that Bernie was voiced by Solid Snake
>he defends american soulless and plastic dubs made as cheaply as possible
This is like a WWE wrestler's walk-in music or something. That said, it kind of fits the whole sci-fi part of DBZ that is the Cell arc.
Honestly, someone should make a comedy manga/anime about a kung-fu granny and have Nozawa do the voice. Hell it doesn't even have to be a kung-fu granny, it just has to be an old woman who kicks ass and occasionally cracks jokes or something.
because I have watched it and I can't push through it, it just feels like the VAs are just some random guys they found in the street, they don't know how to act and it just sounds false and forced
After watching the dub of Shinsekai Yori, I was thoroughly convinced that Greg has range. Voiced the same character after each time skip and sounded completely different each time. It's also not like he enjoys being typecast; he says that to this day, his favorite roll was Kaworu from Eva.
There are a limited amount of english dub voice actors used by the usual companies (Funi, Sentai, etc.)
You end up hearing the same voices all over the place, it's fucking lazy as shit and leads to the wrong voices at the wrong places.
You hear a few dubs, and suddenly you heard most of them due to what I mentioned.
Disney dubs for anime are good, but they use actual talent, not hacks from the north american voice actors guild
Oh wow. I couldn't wait to watch SSY before, now I'm completely psyched.
My man. Hearing Greg in a relatively older role screaming and swearing like a shrill lunatic. Fuck, I'm getting hard just remembering it.
Just being considerate, anon. Not everyone on /a/ has seen the essentials.
Harmony Gold was much better than FailMation
It saddened me how good Wendee Lee's performance as Bulma was in the Harmony Gold Dub compared to the shitty performance from Tiffany Vollmer in the Failmation one
Being dead for 7 years changed Goku a lot. He has no problem killing Babadi's minions and says that he'll personally make sure Babadi ends up in an especially bad hell after he dies.
>The english dub is superior to the horrible japanese version in every way.
The English dub doesn't have Ryo Horikawa, Ryusei Nakao, Takeshi Kusao, Mayumi Tanaka and Norio Wakamoto.
Which makes it inferior by default.
Well damn. My predictions did not hold.
I was ready to put money on Micah Solusod and Ian Sinclair as Mika and Orga, respectively.
Still looks great.
Overall the original soundtrack is better, but SOME of Faulconer's music is superior. Just compare the SS3 theme:
Just the one scene. Blew me away.
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I actually enjoy JYB's Lelouch more than Fukuyama's version. Fukuyama always sounds like he's talking though his nose like he has a typical Japanese cold, and that annoys me.
