The elections were awesome, and set up so much conflict with only Chieri and Mimori making it. Her Promotion was also amazing. The way the story was written fluidly as the series went on I think led to a lot of fluid developments.

The references for the real wotas were subtle and interspersed, and you didn't need to know anything going in to enjoy it. Each of those scenes in the image you linked was the result of two cours of buildup, and by the time you reach it you should be so invested that each has a huge emotional payoff. Watching it live had even more richness because information was released weekly and real events affected some things in the anime.

When she gets hurt and Kanata is about to go on for her, she takes out her anger on the unsuspecting Kanata. Even considering once to go ahead and graduate before she's stopped, she maintains her position throughout the entire series, leaving an open question of how Kanata will react to being stuck an understudy for years to come.
