She was in love with Nagi from the start, until time shenanigans during the training arc happened. I always thought that despite UQ Holder being a sequel to Negima, it happens in an alternative timeline. Why can't it be so simple that Eva in UQ is an alternate version of Eva from Negima, thus making her past a possible alternation from the one she had in Negima?

Although, we're not sure what Negima timeline it's in, we're positive it's a canon sequel. Ken even said it's the definite sequel to Negima. UQ Holder was also hinted to at the end of Negima, when it talked about 3-1's, and Kitty's future.
And it's not a different, Eva, her past just got changed.
While I came off hostile, I'm not entirely against Touta x Kitty, I just don't like how poorly done and stupid the the retcon was.

It doesn't make sense to me that someone hardened by literally hundreds of years of strife, misery, loneliness, betrayal, murder, and all of the life's worst shit--and, importantly, that this was true for her entire life, as her life has always been god-awful crap even before the life maker transformed her--could just go lovey-dovey ultra-dere mode in such a brief period. There needed to be something to act as the catalyst: a previous love, or otherwise some reason to believe in love. Enter Touta, who gives her both--she loved him, and he filled her mind with visions of a future that's happy and promises a deep love for her.

I think you have to be fairly non-critical of Eva's centuries of experience to just blindly accept she falls in love for the first time ever in practically the blink of an eye. I think we accepted it mostly because we accepted that Negi was a pussy-magnet (because reasons), and it seemed Nagi kind of was, too.

I think this works better. Instead of Eva falling prey to the irresistible pussy magnets of the Springfield lineage just because that's what they do, she's been prepped ahead of time and taught love and hope at a point in her existence when this was still plausible.

Nagi was definitely a pussy magnet, sure, but that wasn't why she fell in love with him. She was treated like a monster for decades upon decades, and Nagi saves her life without second guess; that alone can make her like someone. And remember, she didn't fall in love on the spot, she and Nagi spent months together, where Nagi was nothing but nice to her. Despite her being treated by a monster by everyone else, Nagi was the only one who was kind and gave her hope for a better future.

Nagi did literally the same thing as Touta, albeit a lot of it was off-screen. I'm just upset that Touta did almost a 1 for 1 of what Nagi did, but in the past. And remember, Tota did this just because he liked Eva, and knew nothing of her past. When Nagi did it, he knew she had killed people and was considered a monster. I simply think Nagi's was done better and first, but it ended up meaningless and retconed.

Just wait until the next Time Shenanigans reveals that Nagi treated her nicely because of advanced knowledge from the future, and that in the timeline where he wasn't told this he was a ruthless ass to her.

Touta's general company and confession helped her in a much different way than Nagi's education and companionship did. Just knowing that a person could fall in love with her must have felt great, especially when she'd been constantly shunned and hunted by everyone else she'd met. Having someone accept her in such a way was a fairly large deal.
